| If it's at all possible, the pollution such production causes will be much larger than the pollution caused by just breeding chickens. Don't they care about the environment?
The destruction of the natural habitat of animals due to the pollution caused by the production of artificial meat will also kill many animals - and prevent them from returning, too.
PETA has now sunk so low that they offer a prize for something that will end up killing many animals and causing a lot of pollution, much more than the lives that would be saved. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I never claimed that Microsoft took the decision lightly - but they did take it, and thus it is their responsibility. I do not hold Microsoft responsible for the decisions of hardware manufacturers not to supply new drivers - only for the decision that made new drivers necessary.
If Microsoft had chosen differently, had maintained compatibility with the old driver model, there wouldn't even have been any need for cooperation from the hardware manufacturers.
Microsoft created that need for cooperation from the hardware manufacturers. Microsoft cannot be held responsible for the lack of cooperation, but they most definitely ARE responsible for creating the need for that cooperation.
That decision from Microsoft, regardless how well-reasoned out it is, is thus the prime cause for all the driver troubles. Microsoft is responsible for that decision, but I do not get the impression that they take their responsibility, instead preferring to blame the hardware manufacturers for not going along with what Microsoft wants them to do. | I disagree - it's still Microsoft who decided, in a completely one-sided decision, to do that driver overhaul. You cannot blame hardware manufacturers for not going along with Microsoft's one-sided decision. Microsoft didn't ask those manufacturers if they were ok with an overhaul of the driver model. Microsoft really IS the only one responsible for Microsoft's one-sided decision to make Vista incompatible with the pre-existing drivers. It's not like there was any agreement between Microsoft and the hardware manufacturers that was broken by those manufacturers - it was Microsoft single-handedly deciding to use a new driver model, without consulting the hardware manufacturers. Those hardware manufacturers have no obligation to do what Microsoft wants them to do - to write drivers to work with the new driver model that Microsoft decided on.
Microsoft's decision, Microsoft's responsibility. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Microsoft is not free from blame - they are the ones requiring new drivers for existing hardware, by making Vista incompatible with drivers written for xp.
Drivers are an interface for programs to use the hardware - if Vista cannot operate that interface as it has been made by the hardware manufacturers, it is Vista's failure. Microsoft should not blame hardware manufacturers for their own lack of compatibility. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | People should have the right to skip windows versions - instead of being bullied into switching prematurely. I was happy with windows 98, very lean and low impact on system resources, until I was forced to switch due to unavailability of hardware drivers. I still didn't like switching, but at least I was able to skip windows ME. I plan on skipping Vista next, going straight to this windows 7, if it's not too bloated with crap. Until that time, I'll need XP support to be available. Flag this | Edit this post |
