Wii is going to have some fun online stuff that's easy to get into. But I wouldn't expect as much hardcore stuff as the others. Personally I play an online game or two on the pc and play my Gamecube for the arcadey fun stuff and 1st party AAA titles. I'll being doing the same with the Wii.
I like the research into problems like the shimmering effect in BF2. The screenshot stuff? Well if you have to put screenshots under a microscope then that says it all. Who cares then.
Anyway since games are in motion the biggest studies should be about motion and not screenshots.
I sorta prefer old school bf42's look in that it comes across as alot cleaner than bf2. It looks a bit old, but you don't have all that shimmering effect stuff.
Another effect I get in bf2 is terrain morphing as I approach it. I'm sure it's partly related to me not having the top vid card out there.

GAmes for Windows is mostly bs. Their big invention is a games folder in Vista. Oh Nelly!!!!
What they really need is to have a 'gaming safe-mode' that your computer can boot into for games that clears out all the crap programs running in the background and all the other garbage. (for the pc layperson.)
Plus they need automated driver and patch updates. It would help too if Nvidia and ATI didn't release 3000 models of video cards. I think it drives the public bananas when they do that along with the need to go find drivers and patches and I think people just give up and move to consoles.
Plus as the Epic guy said months ago you need computer manufacturers to promote gaming more with the inclusion of gaming video cards. Most pcs sold now just don't play games. First off, most pcs sold now are laptops and can't even be upgraded with better vid cards. Of the desktops sold most don't have decent vid cards.
I just think MS is riding the fence here. Instead of promoting a Gaming on Windows brand they should promote a 'Desktop gaming' brand on the 360. You know games formerly known as Windows games or mouse/keyboard/flightstick games.
Yeah AMD bought ATI to get integrated graphics under their umbrella for business and for ATI's reach into future growth markets like mobile phones etc.
As far as pcgamers go I don't think you'll notice anything at least for years. ATI will still produce gaming vid cards that will run on Intel cpus and Nvidia chipsets as well as their own (amd/ati's) stuff.
I like the idea of pcgaming going to a more unified hardware platform, but I don't see amd/ati capable of steering it that way and I don't really think they will go that direction.
If you want that then I think it would be easier for the 360 and PS3 to offer mouse/keyboard and produce a 'desktop' brand of console video games than for pcgaming to change it's nature.
I do agree that pcgaming is a hassle. I bought an Apple and it's awesome how everything works together so well.
One other benefit buying ATI can give AMD down the road is with consoles. Nintendo and MS use ATI gpus. And maybe there is some leverage there to also sell those guys AMD cpus for their next-gen consoles (after 360 and Wii.)
With 7600 gts under $150 after rebate at newegg it's not worth it getting a 7600gs for the most part unless you're on such a strict budget you can't spend an extra $25 or you need a quiet card.
this is best article that FS has ever done I think. why? Because it's not just doing the same 'ole, same 'ole. It reaches out and does what seems like some good 'ole fashioned reporting and researching. Great job. Interesting stuff.
