| | Except for the ones Microsoft is paying off you will likely see pretty much all of the studios abandoning HD DVD in 2008. It doesn't have anything to do with consumer preference. The fact is the copy protection scheme on HD-DVD has already been broken and Blu-ray's still seems unbreakable. Studios do not want to see a repeat of regular DVDs where practically anyone and their grandma can copy them. I'm not a fanboy of either format but I do prefer Blu-ray's larger capacity, and better sound quality (because of larger capacity and uncompressed audio) and most of all the fact that Blu-ray disks are practically unscratchable (I know I tried real hard to scratch one I rented from blockbuster and couldn't do it) I bet most of the fanboys bashing one side or the other have no actually experience using either format, and this goes double for Yoshi's retarded ass. | | I went Blu-ray for pretty much the same reason. Toshiba is actually less trustworthy than Sony, and they make the worst optical drives on the market. I have had two upconverting Toshiba DVD players and one Tosihba DVD Audio/SACD player. All 3 died within a year and all 3 had 90 day warranties. I know Sony is a pretty shady company but I take them any day over the Toshiba/Microsoft led HD DVD group. Another thing that never gets mentioned and is very important to me is the fact that Blu-Ray discs are just about completely scratch proof. I have bought most of my PS3 games used and have never seen a scratch on one and I have rented at least 50 blu-ray movies from blockbuster and have never seen a scratch on one. Hell I even took my keys and tried to scratch a rental blu-ray and I couldn't damage it. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | That makes four of us. I was wondering why the hell Sim City would need that kind of engine, but it sounded cool. Sin City with the Unreal 3 engine sounds much cooler. The Unreal 3 engine might not be quite as pretty as the Crysis engine but it sure runs a lot smoother. Actually with settings that are actually playable on any computer not 5 years from the future the Unreal 3 engine looks much better anyway. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Good reply. I too pretty much only bash Yoshi for obvious reasons. I realize consoles are much more effecient than pcs with similiar hardware. My point is that the Xbox and Xbox360 share so many common components with PCs that porting games back and forth between the two is far simpler than it is for the PS3. I'm not saying this is a bad thing, in fact it makes it easier for the developers. My point is that at least for me anything I would want for the Xbox360 is also available for the PC. Don't get me wrong I would love to own an Xbo360 with an HD DVD add on, but I already spent to much money on my PC, Wii and PS3. I constanly upgrade my PC and spent most of my time and money on it. I got the Wii for when I have friends over that are non gamers. I have one friend in his mid fifties who had never played a video game in his life until i got Tiger Woods for the Wii and now he is addicted. I bought the PS3 because I got a really good deal on it and could justify the expense by figuring half of what I was paying was for the Blu-ray player and half was for the console. The other thing that scares me away from the Xbox360 is the high failure rate of the console. I know MS has done a good job replacing the defective consoles but I would rather not have to mess with it. If the integrate the HD DVD and sell it for under $300 I'd jump all over it. | | If you are referring to Crysis you are absolutely right. Sure it has amazing graphics and it is a pretty fun game, but I have 8800s sli'd in my rig and have to run the game at 1280 by 720 at medium settings. That is riduclous. UT3 on the other hand I run at 1680 by 1050 (my lcd's native res) with all details maxed out and get about 100 fps average and it never drops below 50 fps. Sure crysis would be the best looking game ever if I had a time machine and could get a video card from 5 years in the future, but with current hardware high settings are choppy and Very high is unplayable no matter how fast your computer is. That is just ridiuclous. UT3 and COD4 on the other hand scale very well on current hardware, and with a SLI rig (probably crossfire too) runs smooth as silk even at high res and all details maxed out. Even though crysis has potential for great graphics, judging by what you can actually run the game at UT3 and COD4 kiil it graphically. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I'll admit calling it a port machine is an oversimplification. Actually there just hasn't been anything released on it that I just had to have that wasn't also available for and better on the PC. Halo is the only exception because it is ported in reverse (quite poorly at that), but I can't stand the Halo series anyway. It would be a sub par series at best if had been pc only like originally planned. I can still remember my Voodoo 5 box that was covered with Halo screenshots. Also I was a big fan of the Myth series so I hold a bit of a grudge against MS and Bungie for killing it in favor of Halo, but I can't argue with the ludicrous amount of money it has made them. From the very beginning the Xbox hardware has basically used of the shelf PC parts and standards. The first Xbox was just a stripped PC with a Geforce 3 in it. It used DX8 and now the 360 uses DX9 so this makes it fairly simple to port games back and forth (making the piss poor halo ports inexcusable). Basically Microsoft hasn't done enough to make any Xbox different enough from a mid range PC to make me interested. Please nobody flame me, I'm not trying to bash the Xbox or Xbox360 I'm just saying how it fails to interest me personally. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Even though Harmonix created the game Activision foot the bill so it is there IP like it or not. So technically Harmonix is ripping off their game even though they invented it, so Activision has every right to expect Harmonix, MTV and Viacom to pay them some royalities. | | I don't know about that. As an owner of a PS3, Wii and one seriously tricked out pc, I can say the PS3 has infitely more depth but most wii games are fun in short stretchs and at parties. There is plenty of room for both consoles and I don't look at them as competitors at all. The only reason I don't own an Xbox360 is because practically all of its games are pc ports. I also own an Xbox360 controller for my PC so an Xbox360 would be redundant and a waste of my money. So here is my take if you got the money you can't beat the combo of a high end pc, PS3 and wii. If you can't afford a good pc or lack the technical knowledge to build and maintain one the Xbox360 is an excellent alternative. The wii is a nice toy to play with when taking a brake from serious gaming or when you have guests. It is unbeatable as a party game but solo it is pretty tough to put in long hours on the wii, the games just lack depth. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I really find it hard to believe just how fucking stupid you are Yoshi. Comparing Pirates 3 sales on blu-ray to transformer HD DVD is beyond retarded. The only movie you can compare directly is 300 and blu ray killed HD DVD. I'm not a fanboy of either format, although I think blu ray has a better shot being included in the PS3, because there is virtually no interest whatsoever in standalone players outside of nerd communities like this one. Even here most people don't likely own an HD player other than PS3s. Your posts are the most idiotic on this site (have been for at least 5 years now) and I don't know why I read them. Probably the same reason people gawk at car crashes and trainwrecks. It is so horrible it mesmerizes you. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | wtf, shortage of disk drives. yeah dvd rom drives are in such short supply. this is ridiculous, and nintendo needs to do some serious housecleaning in upper management for not getting this mess straightened out by now. I'd be willing to bet the only reason the xbox360 is selling well now is because a lot of people have gave up on ever finding a wii. inexcusable. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Actually it play very well on the PS3 if you use a mouse and keyboard. I'll buy any UT game on any system except the Xbox360 because it is just a poorly made pc, and I already have a very nicely made pc. The amazing thing about the PS3 version is that it looks just about as good as the PC version at max details, is almost as fast, and plays just as well as the pc version. The main reason I bought it on the PS3 is because it supports mouse and keyboard controls and I wanted to see if this could finally be the world's first shooter worth playing on a console and the answer is a resounding yes. Xboys it's time to throw away your burnt up 360 and sell your halo collection because there is no excuse to play that garbage series anymore. I am also very anti console shooter, but the mouse and keyboard controls are as smooth as a high end gaming pc Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Not if the patches are mostly performance related. I have a dual boot of XP Media Center and Vista Home premium along with two 8800s in sli. I usually can't run brand new games in sli mode until they have been patched, but so far crysis has run flawlessy in both operating systems. Runs well too, but I can always use a couple of more f/ps, so I say keep those patches rolling. Have you had any problems with the game or know anyone that has, or do you just like bitching? | | Forget about getting one. I've got a Walmart supercenter right accross the street from my home. I walked over there when I got home from work and there were already about 20 people line up. I'm not about to stand in line at walmart for 15 hours to save $100 on an HD DVD. My time is worth more than that. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | It is not about insecurity it is about using the right tool for the right job. I own a PC and a Wii at the moment and might eventually get a PS3 when the price comes down. First person shooters simply should be played with a mouse and keyboard. I have spent countless hours over the years playing both PC and console games but until recently I have simply refused to play FPS games on consoles because I find aiming with a gamepad to be very unpleasant. It simply isn't natural. PCs have been the only real platform to properly play shooters until recently. The wii holds some promise with it's inovative controller and I'm sure UT3 on a PS3 with keyboard and mouse will be pretty sweet, but there is no way in hell someone with a gamepad can complete against a keyboard\mouse setup in a UT game. It would be nice if PS3 players can compete against PC players. I would love the chance to destroy people dumb enough to play with a gamepad, but even if the PC and PS3 aren't compatible the PS3 UT players with gamepads will still get demolished by those who use a keyboard/mouse. Just buy UT3 for the PS3 when it comes out and play online with a gamepad and see how much fun you have. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | It won't be. You are going to need to add a second 7950 to run sli or upgrade to an 8800gtx to run the game acceptably. I'd be willing to bet it is going to take a 8800 sli setup to run it on high (thank god I have one). If Crysis and UT3 both actually ship for the holidays PC gaming could make a major comeback because the PC versions of these games should make both the Xbox360 and PS3 look like 8 bit systems. | | Do you ever get tired of being wrong. I never said what gender or race I was (you are half right, I am male). I'll give you a hint, the white europeans you grouped me with stole far more from my people than they ever could yours and many professional sports franchises still use racial slurs against my people as their team nicknames. The NFL franchise in Washington D.C. aren't called the jungle bunnies asshole. I took offense because you blamed all of the firingsquad readers for ruining Africa without even considering that they are not all white european descended males. Your real issue is against imperialistic governments (I know mine is). In your complaint against a game being insensitive to your people you just blindly insulted every other race on the planet. Good job asshole. I stand by my previous statement that you a racist who is just looking for any single reason to get offended. It is a good thing my people aren't the same, and we are the only ones with a real right to be here and your people are currently just as responsible for ruining my country as those white european imperialistic assholes. To me it is really a toss up who is worse, but I don't go blindly insulted entire races because of it. Just individual racist assholes such as yourself. | | And Blu-ray isn't? You people who think blu ray has won this so called format war must be sniffing glue. The truth is neither format is selling worth a damm. It took blu ray a year to sell a million movies total while HD-DVD accumulated 800,000 movies sold during the same time period. News flash: both of those figures suck tremendously and it is incredibly like that both of these formats are already dead and you retards just haven't checked for a pulse. Do you realize in that same time period over a billion DVD movies were sold. I said it before and I'll say it again, both formats are premature. HDTV haven't reached enough market penetration yet, and the majority of movies being sold as HD aren't HD at all but merely upsampled standard def movies and these same results can be acheived with a good $150 upconverting DVD player (check out Onkyo's new player, most movies look better on it than their Blu-Ray or HDDVD counterpart) When you factor in that these upsampled movies sell for 3x the price of regular DVDs you will realize the whole thing is completely fraudulent and both formats deserve to fail and will fail. Anyone want to place a bet on it? Flag this | Edit this post |
