| It's never good when your console is doing so miserably that you're still introducing new versions of your last generation one.
Maybe they'll eventually make a PS2 so small you can put it inside your PS3. I can imagine the Sony press release now..."Why have a PS3 with backward capability when you can literally have two PlayStations in one!" Flag this | Edit this post |

| I thought the article was really good. Sure, Alan enjoys his iPhone, but many of the comments and praise I've heard elsewhere, so it's hard to say that it's a biased review. The iPhone really does have a very cool interface and features, and a lot of future potential. And Alan is right--when price is the only limiting factor, the competition should be worried. I would pick one of these up in a heartbeat if it were offered on Verizon at a lower price. The only thing Alan neglected to mention was the lack of multimedia messaging (pics, video messaging). I think that's a huge omission and Apple should get on the stick and fix that.
I'm more excited about the potential for the next iPod. If it incorporates the same interface and features that the iPhone does, I'll be sure to pick it up. Flag this | Edit this post |

| What a piece of crap. It's a very fast, responsive program on OSX, but on Windows, it takes forever to open up, and it doesn't load as fast or have the responsivness of IE7. What's the point? I use IE7 because of ActiveX; otherwise I'd be using Opera.
I was initially excited about Safari (why didn't this happen about three years ago?), but I'm very disappointed. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I liked the article, but I didn't feel it reflected what most of the computing population would experience. If I tried to run Vista 64 on my AMD Barton system, and it didn't work, I don't have the money to go out and buy a brand new processor, motherboard, and RAM. I'd have to figure out how to make the damn thing work. I felt like, for most of the article, the attitude was, "We'll try to make this work, but if it doesn't, we'll buy something new." That's not realistic for most people.
Also, it would have been interesting to see if your experiences mirrored what Window's Vista Upgrade Advisor said before you installed Vista 64 on an XP system. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | If Sony does win the format war with BluRay, that's a far more lucrative win than even the console war. The only two things preventing the PS3 from flying off shelves is game selection and price, and those are both things that will improve with time. If BluRay doesn't take off, then Sony will be a distant third. But we'll just have to wait and see... Flag this | Edit this post |

| I actually thought AMD's purchase of ATi was a good move. I do think that they're rebranding of ATi to AMD is foolish, as ATi has a lot of brand equity and loyalty. But having such a strong presence in a similar computing field is a good idea, and hopefully the synergies of the two companies help to foster innovation.
Intel has come back with a vengence, and while I don't think AMD will fail if their next line of procs aren't competitive, I do think they'll have an almost impossible time climbing back to the top. I like AMD, so I hope they'll come back with a vengence. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Didn't a similar complaint get filed against Elizibeth Hurley's actions at her wedding? This kind of stuff seems pretty petty and stupid. Like the article mentions, they out to make a bigger deal out of the AIDS awareness convention. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | See, and I thought that the size of San Andreas was too big. It was so big and varied that I felt it lost something. Just to get from Los Santos to San Fiero took forever. If San Andreas had been 75% of it's size, it would have made for an easier, more cohesive setting. It sounds like that's approximately the new ones size. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Well, if anything ruins the Playstation's dominance, it'll be this. I kept with the PS2 instead of going with the original xBox because of the great games Sony had, and continued to have over the course of the console's life. Grand Theft Auto, Gran Turismo, Splinter Cell--all were games that were exclusive to the PS2, at least for a while.
And I was actually considering purchasing a PS3 in the spring (when you can actually buy one), but now I'm wondering if that's a great idea. Without games exclusive to the PS3, I would think it'd be harder to use all of the PS3's graphical power, and that's a big selling point versus the 360 (I know they've very similar, but theoretically the PS3 is supposed to be superior).
Without exclusive games, the only thing the PS3 has going for it is the Blu Ray player, but that's probably not a big factor for people who just want to play games. Like someone else said, Sony really dropped the ball on this one. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Yeah, that whole thing is horrible, and I'm glad that they pulled the show and book. But the fact that they were going to publish the book and air the show in the first place is disgusting, and Fox should be ashamed of themselves even though, at the last minute, they did the right thing. I wouldn't be surprised if this whole thing was just a publicity stunt by Murdoch to get his company in the news. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I'd wait in line for hours to sell a PS3 on eBay for a $9,000 profit. Even if I had to wait in line for 24 hours, I'd be making $375 an hour just sitting on my ass. I have a job though, so I can't do that, and it's too late anyway. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Microsoft's a little late to the party, and I don't think their money is going to help them this time for one reason--the iPod and iTunes have 85% of the MP3 market, and both the iPod and the Zune are closed proprietary systems. How many people are going to switch to the Zune if all their music is in AAC format and all their purchased songs are DRM AAC files? How many people are actually going to know the difference?
Plus, Apple's got a lot of leeway with the music and movie companies because it controls so much of the market. They can get pretty much whatever they want. How is Microsoft going to compete with that? I used to use MSN Music, and the main reason I switched was because iTunes had tons more songs than anyone else.
Microsoft also didn't make the Zune compatible with Rhapsody and Napster, the only two big players other than iTunes. So people who've been using the Play4Sure crap are out of luck, and they'd be the users that'd pick up the Zune first. Microsoft's basically allienated their biggest customer base with this move.
All in all, I think the Zune will be like every other non-Apple MP3 player--just a niche product. And until Microsoft can address some of these compatability issues and WiFi limitations, it will continue to be a niche player. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I don't know why everyone's so hyped up about the rechargable batteries. I've been using a rechargable mouse for three years, and I couldn't stand switching to a mouse that requires me to pop in new batteries every four months. All I have to do is put the mouse on it's charger when I'm done with it, and it's always ready to go.
It should be the same with a controller. If I hook it up every few nights to recharge, I don't have to hastle with batteries, it's much more convenient, and it's always charged up.
And if I have to buy a new controller in two years? Well shit--it seems to me if you can afford to buy one of these for $600 bucks, you can afford $50 every two years for a new controller. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I've been using IE7 for a while now, and it's a great browser. I wish it had a few more features Opera has, but it's a damn-sight better than IE6. I look forward to the final release.
But I'm not downloading the Yahoo version. I want a choice in what search engine I use. Flag this | Edit this post |
