| The 360 is well ahead of the ps3 worldwide, you need to get a serious reality check. The PS3 could keep this upward trend in sales going for another year and still not catch the 360's worldwide sales.
As for " a gamecube with motion controls dominating the console market ". Really think about that for a second- the wii might be selling a TON of consoles, but the 360 is selling 5x more games than the other 2 consoles combined. Nobody is buying Wii games. MS is also making a killing on Xbox live and it's related microtransactions for DLC, movies, music and tv shows.
In terms of profit made, MS is crushing everyone this console war by an extremely huge margin. Consoles sold only count for so much, it's the software sales that determine the winner, and in that regard, Microsoft is leagues ahead of the competition in this race. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Nintendo does not need to drop anything from the Wii for a price cut, their manufacturing cost is already estimated to be below $150 per console, whereas MS and Sony are losing an arm and a leg on each console sold. Nintendo has a lot of room to play with when it comes to price cutting. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I just dont see how anyone can say decisively that Blu Ray is better.. They are identical in terms of Picture quality and Sound. Blu Ray had the disk capacity advantage, then Toshiba finalized the spec for a 51gb HD-DVD disc.
Honestly, who really cares? We all know digital downloads are the future. Let's just skip this generation and move on. Mass storage is nasty cheap nowadays, who cares about a piddling 15/30 or 25/50 GB when terabyte hard drives cost only as much as 10 BR or HD-DVD movies..
Who cares about a new, fragile optical discs in the day of cheap and extreme mass storage and free online multi gig hard drives? Flag this | Edit this post |

| I totally agree with this- there is no way they could still have supply issues a year after launch, especially when the machine is so cheap and easy to build..They are almost certainly holding back production to spur demand.
I also agree with the fact that since demand is so high, a price cut would be moronic. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Fair enough, but there is still one thing you aren't understanding here- these particular programmers work for the company that actually designed both the OS and the Hardware- a luxury other programmers for the console do not have. They have no excuse for not knowing how to interact with the hardware or OS on the console since everything is basically made in house.
As for my programmers knowing more than me.. sure they do- about programming. In the end of the day, they still work for me. In my experience, most programmers are great at coding, but most of them can't even put a basic PC together or fix a network..In other words, they might know software inside and out, but they don't know squat about hardware.
My guys are good though, given that upper management wants that LIS developed with a Java front end, they've done an admirable job so far. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Am I a programmer? No.. Do i work in the IT field alongside multiple programmers? Yes..
They should have put more effort into making this game.. They spent all their time and money on marketing and hype and not enough on quality control..
And yes, it is far easier to program when you only have to make your software run on a unified platform.. They may have changed certain components, but no major hardware has been changed.. They have re-arranged the motherboard, added new heat sink hardware, changed dvd roms ( those are universal anyway ).. in the future they will be manufacturing the CPU on using a more efficient process to get the 65mn chip or whatever it is.. but in the end, it's the same hardware just made better.. it has no new features, no extra power nothing.. it merely is made on a smaller manufacturing process so less energy gets dissipated as heat and it will therefore run cooler.. Programming for a unified platform is always easier, you never have to worry about your software working properly with foreign drivers or an AMD vs Intel CPU, or an ATi vs nvidia graphics driver, or certain sound hardware or etc.. the system platform is permanently set and can not be changed..If you can't understand that then YOU are the Naive programmer..For example, one of the medical programs my company is developing now works great with the version of Java that was out when they started developing the program, then once Java updated to V6, nothing works.. the dev team now has to go back and make it work with J6.. In the process they found out that they now have to make it work with all versions of Java.. It would have been easier if Java never got updated but that is not an option- now it has become far more difficult to make this Lab Info System program work because of Java..Then then ran into other issues with the system not working properly on AMD hardware..Don't you think that if every system was an intel based system, and always ran the same version of Java, the job of programming and finding bugs would have been a lot easier? Yes, it sure would.. I hope you understand my point now.
The fact of the matter is, GoW looked 5x better at least, running on the same hardware, made with a smaller budget, and it was not made by the same company that invented the console itself..
Bugs are expected, sure, in any complex piece of code.. but major bugs such as this, and outright average graphics compared to other titles on the same system.. that is unacceptable. Halo 3 does not even look as good as HalfLife 2.. I have not seen aliasing that bad since the DX8 days Flag this | Edit this post |

| hey guess what, that applies to PC architecture mainly.. Where any game or application has to work on an infinite amount of different hardware.. However, when designing a game for a console, everyone is on equal hardware..Bugs should be a thing of the past..
I love my Xbox 360, but Microsoft has dramatically lowered the bar when it comes to quality of games.. Honestly, you do not see buggy games like this on anything but Xbox or Xbox 360.. Sure the other platforms have the occasional gaming bug, but i have never seen a system until the 360 where virtually every game ships with numerous, system crashing bugs..
There's no excuse for major bugs of any kind when the entire market for your game is using identical hardware and sharing one centralized online network..Let's not forget the insane amount of development time they had, and the fact that in the case of Halo 3, nobody knows the system hardware and software better than the maker of that game- Microsoft. Also, bearing in mind the importance of this particular game to the platform's success and future, you would think they would have put a bit more effort into it.. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Do you guys know how retarded you sound? Fanboyism at it's best already..
Toshiba helped develop the Cell processor in the first place, and get with the program, hd-dvd and blu ray do not yet account for much of either company's income..

+1 on this..i also own both, they are both excellent..however, anyone in the tech industry knows what is really coming- Streaming HD content over broadband is the future..

| It's not going to happen any time soon..
IMO, i'd rather HD-DVD win than blu ray, since if Blu Ray wins, we are looking at a lifetime of more expensive movies..Everything Sony puts their hands in, is more expensive than it should be..
However, the cheaper format always wins, as the past shows in other format wars..
This war is far from over, it's ludicrous to think that this could be decided anytime soon..all of the companies are going to fight to the bitter end..
It is looking very good for Blu Ray though... Flag this | Edit this post |

| You'd be surprised how complex the battle system for SF2 is..i've seen some Dhalsim users that would make you cry..
The button layout of the controller is just not very SF friendly.. they should make a version of the controllers that came with the SF Anniversary collection from PS2 Flag this | Edit this post |

| The Xbox arcade is great.. there are definitely a lot of fun games on there, if you have not played Geometry Wars Evolved you are missing one of the best and most addictive games currently out on any system..
Some of the XBLA titles have amazing graphics as well, if i remember correctly there's at least one or two using the U3 engine.. Flag this | Edit this post |

| You're retarded..
The 360's decoding is only bad on regular dvd's not HD-dvd's and they can fix that with a future firmware update..
Secondly, as far as online services, Xbox live is by far the best.. the ps3 and wii online experience don't even hold a candle to the functionality and content of Xbox live.. the ps3 and wii online services might be free, but in this case you definitely get what you pay for ( which is, pay nothing, get nothing )...
Not to mention, the 360 at this time has far more games..
Whether the HD-DVD add on is ugly, that part is subjective..It looks similar to the xbox 360 itself, so unless you think the 360 is ugly, i don't see how you could think the HD add on is any better or worse looking..
Is the PS3 a superior movie player? Absolutely..However, you must realize these are GAMING SYSTEMS! Flag this | Edit this post |

| | This is an absolutely retarded price drop... these systems need a 100 price cut across the board...unless they plan another price cut at the beginning of the holiday shopping season to spur further sales, this cut is just insulting.. the core system needs to be priced equally with the Wii to affect it's sales Flag this | Edit this post |

| Well say that when the 360 price cuts come.. when people have an alternative choice in the $200-$250 range.. watch the 360's sales soar past the wii..
By the way, the gamecube sold badly because there were only a handful ( maybe 10-15 ) games that were worth playing on it... The Wii is shaping up to be the same story again.. just like the gamecube, its had a great first year.. but in the longrun, it will suffer for the same reasons as the gamecube.. | I think a $100 price cut across the board is needed..I believe the only reason the Wii is the best seller is because of the price and nothing more.. if someone else had the cheapest console out there, it would sell better.. just look at the ps2's sales for reference..
The 360 elite is limited production and shouldnt be discussed as far as price cuts, arent there only a half million of them being made? Once those are gone, theyre gone.. Flag this | Edit this post |

| 1080p is only half of "the point" of HDMI.. the other half, which is much more important to me, is the ability to do the lossless audio formats, like Dolby True-HD.. currently, the 360 downmixes these formats to DD 5.1, and does not do a very good job at it..
HDMI 1.2 is useless, HDMI 1.3 is what it needs to be.. 1.3 is necessary for Standard def DVD upscaling to HD, and for lossless audio.. 1.2 is basically just a 1080p capable hdmi port with no other real benefits.. Flag this | Edit this post |

| hate to break it to you, but most tv's out there don't do 1080p at all..
On some tv's like the westy's, 1080p makes a huge difference over 1080i, but that is only due to the bad internal processing of interlaced images..
When tried back to back on most tv's, you simply will not see a difference in picture quality between 1080i and 1080p when you are more than a couple feet away from the TV Flag this | Edit this post |

| There are no visual benefits to HDMI over component video..other than being able to do 1080p..
I hope it is HDMI 1.3 compliant so the 360 will finally have the ability to do lossless audio.. 1080p is worthless to me, and anyone else on the planet witha tv smaller than 65 inches.. Flag this | Edit this post |
