| Good post here, you're more optimistic about the wii than I am but good post none the less.
There's only one part of your post i want to address.. you say "Without the Xbox 360 the PS3 would look a lot better but right now they are equal systems with equal abilities."
If you're talking games.. then yes, theyre pretty much equal..however, as far as other abilities.. the 360 is far far far far far ahead. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Price counts for a lot.. lets see what happens when MS does 360 price cuts this year.. if the core 360 was 200-250.. that would kill the wii's sales..
Also don't count the PS3 out just yet.. all it will take for it to jump back into the game is one of it's flagship releases.. like FF13 or MGS4.. either would instantly sell millions of consoles. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | You don't think that a lot of people held off buying a new console until they saw what the ps3 and wii had to offer? MS sold more consoles than the wii regardless of what time period you look at. The real test will be this year's holiday season.. however, a clear sign of how things are going to go it- the 360, after being out for 1 year, still outsold the 2 new console releases put together during their release period and first holiday season.... | Good post however not entirely accurate.. the advanced sound playback is possible with 5.1/6.1 analog outputs as well ( the 360 does not have those either ). There is a new version of the 360 in the works that DOES have HDMI, and there is also a rumored HDMI cable coming out for the 360..
These issues are minor setbacks at best..
As far as the sound quality issue.. my setup sounds great, however none of my HD-DVD movies have DTS anyway.. i've got one that has Dolby True HD though... however Microsoft has been excellent with the 360 when it comes to releasing useful updates. Any minor issues that exist now will be taken care of in the next few rounds of updates.. Perhaps the reviewer should have waited a bit.
Still i think the final score was very low, especially considering that the minor bugs werent even taken into effect in the scoring process.
As far as picture quality, HDMI has nothing to offer over component.. it's not that component can't do 1080P either.. that's a marketing decision used to push HDMI to the market to get HDCP out there quicker..if VGA can do 1080P, then component has the bandwidth to do it as well. | » strange review So even though the HD-DVD drive has superb picture quality, and can do 1080p, has near instant bootup ( faster disc load than any other current blu ray or hd-dvd standalone drive ), is super affordable, and comes with a free movie and excellent remote control.. it gets a 78% because it doesnt have HDMI?
I think someone is grossly over-estmating the importance of HDMI.. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Again.. it's not the ARTICLE that's making quotes out of context, it's the firingsquad HEADLINE to the article that is highly innacurate and inflamatory. The article itself is quite impartial, it's the way Firingsquad presented it on this website that makes it inflamatory. The headline makes it seem as if MS is directly saying that, which could not be further from the truth. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I'm not calling anyone a "bad journalist".. but this article is an example of "bad journalism".. had the Firingsquad representative that posted that article used the full sentence that the headline quote is from, this whole discussion would not be happening.
The title states "Microsoft: HD-DVD "May Be The Next Betamax"
Nowhere in the article does Microsoft make that statement. This is a direct attempt to stir up web traffic by posting inflamatory articles. hence the "bad journalism" Flag this | Edit this post |

| » this is taken ridiculously out of context Firingsquad- i'm really disappointed in you. You clearly took your news headline completely out of context for the sake of being "alarmist". That's something i would expect to see on CNN. Shame on you. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I think this is great , i dunno about you guys but i think Silent Hill is pretty much the best videogame to movie adaptation yet.. the story isn't identical but they totally captured the look and feel of the games..Now, release it on hd-dvd and ill be a happy camper.
