| @ Ricky:
1.No, it wasn't horrible... for everyone. I can see how people don't like it, but if you can't see how people could like it, you've got a pretty narrow view of what makes a game good IMHO(and dare I say it's because of folks like you that developers are affraid to try and make something different? Yeah, I dare ;P ).
2. You can thank that "old fart" for helping to drive game engines to the point where they are now. I'll speak for JC and say "you're welcome". Oh, and your posts make ME laugh MY ass off. Thx!
3. Broom closet size? I guess you haven't played Prey, Quake 4, or seen ET:QW... or maybe you just enjoy exagerating to try and make your points more valid.
I think JC has earned the benefit of the doubt with his years of hard work. Me thinks you might not be old enough to appreciate that. Or maybe you are and just like to act like... well, like you do. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » The pics are low res Like JCal mentioned, the screenshots are low-res(those jaggies are horrible), so I wouldn't knock the graphics too much. I'd put money on this game looking better than the first two... I doubt Nintendo would drop the ball on a game like Metroid, and actually downgrade the graphics engine. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Could be good... I have the feeling that this game is either going to be really good, or really bad. I dunno how far they're gonna go back with the whole DHARMA storyline, but it would be cool to have a FPS/RPG style game based on when DHARMA first got to the island, and maybe have it end off where the 'Purge' begins (should happen later this season). The last thing I would want from this game is to just replay events that happened during the actual show. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Yeah I'll have to agree with Wall on this one. I am not impressed by the XRay engine at all. While it does have some advanced features like per-pixel lighting, parallax mapping, and some pretty wide open map segments... it doesn't hold a candle in terms of performance compared to other engines. Considering the type of semi-open gameplay it has, the best game to compare it to would be Oblivion... and yes, Oblivion looks better than Stalker, and is on par with Stalker performance wise. I'm sure some time with one of Mr. Ghazi's tweak guides would help, but that's not the point. To me, Stalker feels rushed and incomplete all the way through, from the engine to the gameplay. It's a shame too, I was looking forward to this game all these years. Flag this | Edit this post |

| EDIT: This was in response to "WallShadows" post. Sorry for the confusion.
From a business standpoint, I agree with you 100%. Unfortunately, as a consumer, this shit makes my blood boil.
Though while those three titles are "highly anticipated", this game was also, and even when released against the mentioned games, I'm sure people would also quickly recognize Stalker.
I think developers just need to make realistic goals when designing games. If they would have released the game we have today, earlier than this year, but much more polished, I think it would have been a huge hit. Even Oblivion had to be cut down from what the developers were originally advertising... though Oblivion felt more "complete" on its release than this game does. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Woah... they really F'd up! 68?!?! 68 Bug fixes, with 65-68 being "various" other changes? This soon after the games release? They really F'd up on this game, seriously.
I've been playing this game for the last two days and this game was not ready to be released. The engine seems sluggish compared to what's going on in the game(christ, some of the things in the game are Quake 3 quality!), I've had numerous game crashes, and now a badly needed patch breaks my saved games? Developers need to stop making all these grand plans for games and then not following through. Either come up with realistic expectations and release a good, stable game on time, or stick with your grand ideas and release the game when it's ready(despite fan reaction).
Yes, yes I know hey had many problems during developement... and it certainly shows. No excuse. If you charge people money for a game, it really doesn't matter what any of the problems were. 95% of consumers don't care.
I'm removing this game from my computer for the next couple of months while I wait for more patches to come out. And there will be more. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Yeah if he had 1.6GHz in 95, that would have been some super crazy machine. I think I had a 200MHz Pentium I then and that was pretty highend. Prolly one of those mixed memories... give him a break though, he is 40 ;)
My first machine was 25MHz with 2MB of Ram, 80MB HD... I was 7(1991). That's gonna be fun to think about when I'm 40.
Anyway, Happy B-Day man, keep on fragging! Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I used to play WoW, and I just automatically assumed every "female" character I met was actually a guy. The only ones that I was sure were chicks, were the ones on Teamspeak. Even then, I never assumed they were as hot as the claimed. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | heh yeah, the prospect of spending the rest of your miserable life in jail is enough to give most people a heart attack. Ohwell, there are two ways you can look at this... 1. He died before he could serve his sentence... justice was cheated. 2. Now he's dead and we don't have to spend any money keeping the guy alive, or waste any more time in the courts hearing his fruitless appeals. Flag this | Edit this post |

| ehhh, that sucks :( I like Nintendo since I grew up with it, and I have my dislikes for Sony, but I wasn't hoping any of the 3 consoles would be a flop. Sure, I'm not gonna buy a PS3(Price + I have a decent Computer + Wii...), but the better the consoles do, the better off we all are. Better consoles = more public interest = more revenue for the industry = more (and hopefully better) games. I want to see nothing but the best for the game Industry, and seeing a major player in console market take a flop would suck.
I dunno, the race between this generation of consoles is going to be interesting to watch. My guess is the Wii could sell the most units... not because of the hardcore gamer crowd, but because of untapped consumers like the soccer mom crowd. I'm sure Sony and Microsoft would love their business, but with their current systems, it's a hard sell.
Sony could actually sell the least... wouldn't that be something? $600 for the good console, $60+ for games, questionable launch titles... which isn't nearly as serious as an unproven media format. I'm not saying Sony already has one foot in the grave with the PS3... I can't see it being that much of a failure(hey, it is a playstation!), but they're far from a smooth ride. | I think anyone around the age of 20 will see humans on Mars in their lifetime. While funding things like this might not be the right thing to do in the time of record budget deficits, it's good to get an early start on something like this.
What cracks me up though are the members of government voting "No" on issues like this and rambling on and on about how this is unnecessary use of taxpayer money... Now, coming from any random person who posts on FiringSquad, that comment would be 100% valid and honerable. But from our Congress? lol! What do you wanna bet that 99% of all those who voted "No" out of "Concern" for taxpayer money, has been at one time guilty of voting "Yes" for other bills that we don't really need. Pet projects. Hypocrits. Politics.
Of course it would be nice if it wasn't just the US and NASA going at it. I've got this whacky idea that space exploration should be an effort of all humanity. Stupid, I know. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I remember seeing Mortal Kombat Trilogy for over $70 when it first came out. I'm personally surprised that game prices haven't gone up more over the years... I remember my dad paying $50 to get me Megaman 2 on the NES for my birthday... that was a long time ago. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I think the high price is to discourage people from using the service in the first place. I don't think Blizzard initially planned to even create the service, but people kept asking for it. By charging $25, Blizzard gives people the option of moving if they really... really want to, but discourages enough people from moving so no problems are caused by massive player transfers(such as overloading or emptying a server). The only case that I can see would justify offering free server moves, are Americans stuck on Oceanic servers because it's the server Blizzard assigned them to when they first started playing the game. | "For some reason, Capt. Joe Dessenberger said, the man had placed his hand in front of the barrel as he pulled the trigger on Monday in east Wichita."
...WTF? What? Did he think "if it is loaded, I'll put my hand here to stop the bullet"? That's all I can come up with. Maybe he wanted to know what a moving bullet felt like. Reminds me of a kid that lives in the town next to mine... wanted to know what it felt like to touch an eletrical wire on a telephone pole, so he did. Zap! He's still alive.
