I was one of those that stopped playing after one month. But I decided to give it another go last month and have been very surprised at how much it has improved. And with a major patch on the way it should get even better.

I agree with Moose, It just looks exactly like the orginal half life with a better graphics. It's hard to see from that trailer, but, it doesn't even look as good as Half life 2.

Any card that I have bought in the last year or so has come with a molex to pcie convertor for the power. And even if you have to buy one, what do they cost?

There is too much hype about the power issue. I have a 4870X2, 5 sata2 hard drives, Q6600 running at 3.2Ghz, 4GB ram, X-fi, DVD drive, 4 case fans all running on a Corsair 520W power supply with no problems at all.

Yes, you need a good powersupply, but, most people will not need a $200 one. Anything over 520W with a high efficiency will work.

Nice review. Well done.

The case itself had to really nice features, the side panel that swings down and the power buttons on top of the door. 80% was a fair score.

Any chance you can do more Case reviews? I would love to see a review of the XClio Windtunnel.

Just another thing, why is everyone giving out about the new OS coming next year? Microsoft has always released New operating systems every 2 years, the two exceptions were 98 and Vista.

95 to 98 - 3 years
98 to 2000/ME - 2 years
2000 to XP - 2 years
XP to Vista - 5 years
Vista to ??? - 2 years

I supply computers and maintenance to companies and so far have rolled out over 200 vista machines. Some were new PC's that I installed Vista on, some were older PC's that I upgraded to Vista. All kinds of hardware and memory configurations. I also have built 3 computer rooms for schools with Vista as the OS. I use Vista myself and everyone in my family uses Vista. So far, I have had very few problems. Most of them were driver issues when vista first came out, but lately these aren't an issue. Other problems have been while installing the OS, problems with SATA and IDE bios settings causing blue screens, these are a pain, but are solvable.

In my experience, if you are a business user and use the same programs most of the time than Vista is great, very stable and runs perfect. I have had no problems on any machine that I have installed Vista on.

I have read lots of problems about games, but, neither I or anybody I know has had any problems with any games. The only game that I had problems running was the Witcher, and those problems were happening on both XP and Vista.

A lot of people who have posted here so far have based their opinions on what happened with their own PC with Vista or their friends PC or read about problems on the internet. You can't judge an operating system on one install. For me basing it on all the computers that I maintain, Vista is much less trouble than XP.

I think it isn't that far fetched. With ever increasing broadband speeds and the way everything is moving to centralisation and energy savins I think He might be on to something.

In 10 years time there won't be consoles, there will be media center TV's or whatever you want to call them. You pick up your game controller, turn on your TV and just like selecting a channel on TV you select the game you want to play, or the movie you want to watch.

There is a big push on towards online content and getting the infrastructure to support it. And with the ever increasing speed of development, well 10 years is a long time!!! Where I live, 7 years ago there was no home broadband, 2 years ago ony about 10% of the population had it, now nearly every home has it. There is a huge demand now. People want faster speeds and more content!!

I think He is right.

I am from Ireland, not from America at all.

And you continue to prove to me and everyone else here that you are scum. There is no excuse for your attitude, your moronic comments. Nobody gets on with everyone, but most people try to have some civility. You might not agree with everyone, but, most people don't turn themselves into scum like you.

What sort of person, I mean what sort of sick, sad person brings the following into any sort of argument

"YOU ARE A WANKER
A STOOPID FUCKING WANKER
A STOOPID FUCKING WANKER WHO WANKS KIDS"

You keep saying everyone else is nothing. But yet the only arguments you can make are comments like those. Your sick, really sick. I feel pity for anyone in contact with you on a day to day basis.

Come on reply to this, call me another name, make up some other completely abusive thing about me. Because that's all you can do, you can't converse, you can't act intelligent. Basically you just can't hack life and this is the way you respond to everything.

It's "camouflage" not cammoflague

And "squating" It should be "swatting" you moron.

Lastly, How come You Swat Saddam just like flies? Saddam is singular, so it should be just like a fly not just like flies.

You can't even insult properly. All you have proven is that

mrpness is an awfully fucked up human being

In two seperate comments you make references to the soliders fighting on the gound. Calling them stupid and saying that you have no sympathy for them. Are you really this stupid, that you don't realise what you are posting?

Can you not give one sensible argument? Your comments are completely racist, not based one bit of fact at all. You are insulting people by saying that they are inbred etc. etc. Yet you cannot spell, you cannot put sentences together, you cannot have discussion without resorting to name calling. In fact, you are the only person here showing all the signs of been inbred. Every comment you make further proves that you are seriously lacking in a lot of areas. Never mind intelligence, what about decency, what about respect, manners, compassion any saving grace at all. So far you have shown none of these in any post. And if you have any sort of education, well it certainly doesn't show either.

You need to be banned. I don't know why the Firing Squad admins have left you here for so long. You have brought nothing to this site, you have contributed nothing to any topic you have posted on. The only things you have brought are racism, ignorance and abuse.

Maybe they haven't banned you to show the rest of us that We are so lucky to be nothing like you.

But If the firing squad admins are reading this, I am adding my vote to get this guy banned. I can't believe you tolerated him this long.

Mrpness, how would anybody take any of your comments as fact? If someone disagrees with you, you resort to making up complete and utter lies about them and insulting them.

If you are typical of the type of person who is against George Bush and the War in Iraq, then I am not surprised that Bush is still in Power.

And most of your facts are all wrong. After World War 1, the Allies had huge War debts to America. The allies, Germany and America came up with the Dawes plan to allow the allies to pay back this money to America. The plan was America loaned the money to Germany and Germany loaned the money to the Allies which in turn allowed the Allies to make money to repay America. This stopped in 1929 when the stock market crashed. The depression didn't end until after World War 2. There was no money loaned to Germany in the 1930's from America.

Second, you are blaming individual soliders for the War in Iraq? How stupid is that? The soldiers do what they are told. Blame the people who sent them there.

I don't agree with bush or with the War in Iraq. But, I hope I would argue my point better than you mrpness. You are racist, abusive and show no intelligence at all. Your comments to all the members here make me sick. Bush is bad but you and others like you are so much worse.

You are everything that is wrong with society.

You do all realise that the Xbox360 has the more advanced GPU, while the PS3 has the more advanced CPU. I put them pretty equal in terms of the quality of graphics they can do. I am sure that with the right coding both the PS3 and the 360 should be able to produce near crysis like material.

Damn it, I was really hoping to upgrade to the Phenom in February. Currently have an opteron 170, but when I bought the HD3870 it blocks my chipset fan and that is causing random lock ups. Don't think I can wait until the second quarter, looks like it's intel for me after all. Damn, damn, I really like the 790FX chipset, ah well.

LOL, sorry, not true, Half life 2 had the whole stuttering thing going on, it took a few patches to get that right. And performance was muck on Nvidia cards.

AS for Doom3,, I remember the article that Hardocp had on the hardware. Doom3 scaled very well as well. You could play it very well on older systems with everything turned down and this was 640*480 resolution!! They said the card that would play it a decent framerates in ultra settings was going to be released later in the year. The card they were waiting for was an Overclocked version of the 6800 ultra with 12 pipelines and 512MB ram. I remember because I was saving up to buy it at the time.

The same things were said about doom3 and about half life 2. Doom3's highest quality mode could not be played on any card available at the time.

Half life 2 was equally hard on systems, and it took a few patches to get right. Cards from Nvidia were really punished.

No system at the moment can play Crysis at it's highest settings with everything on, but, just like half life 2, it scales really well. Even on medium settings it still looks amazing.

I am playing at 1920*1080 on medium settings. My computer has an Opteron 170 running at 2.2Ghz, 2GB ram, X1900XTX and windows vista. It runs fine, very smooth and as said already looks better than most games out there.

Now, the thing is, that Crysis even at really low framerates of between 15 and 25 still feels really smooth. When I first bought it and started playing I thought I was getting high framerates, it really was that smooth. I was surprised to discover I only was getting around 25fps. And I play CS:S and COD4 and if I was getting an FPS that low in those games It wouldn't be smooth at all.

It's a modified version of the engine so you never know what changes they made. Character movements were very good in Tomb Raider Legend. They were very natural and realistic. The graphics weren't bad either. SO I guess the modified engine will keep the fluid and human looking movements of the old engine combined with much update graphics.

Maybe they are adding a new dimension to the Deux Ex character, the ability to climb walls, ropes, maybe do ninja like wall climbing, jumping from wall to wall etc. etc. I mean his movements were very limited before.

I am going to wait until demos come out before I say that this engine is the wrong choice for Deus Ex.

I enjoyed Bio Shock, and as a single player experience I will go back and play it again. I haven't started Crysis yet so can't comment on that. But Call of Duty 4, Very short, way too scripted, and a game I won't be playing again single player.

This is what AMD have been aiming for the past year or so. I don't think they really care about the high end GPU or CPU market at the moment. With the release of the Phenom and the 3800 series GPU, they are doing just enough to keep their name out there. Most of the reviews are more excited about the 790FX chipset then they are the Phenom because it gives a glimpse into they way AMD/ATI are heading.

I think It's only a matter of time before they release an all in one solution.

LOL Whatare you talking about Gbranter? going to gold isn't a hype. It's just a production term it means that the game is ready for production. I think it comes from the fact that the master copy of any game was orginally burned onto a special Gold CD or DVD and then all the other discs are burned from this one. It has nothing got to do with the success or failure of a game!! LOL

:-) Sorry just as I finished the other post I remembered something. Do you remember Doom3, nobody could play that with decent framerates on the ultra high settings when it first came out. You needed a 512MB graphics card which were unavailable at the time.

So the same applies here. The 8800 line of cards are a year old. Both Nvidia and ATI are releasing new cards this month. SO if you want to play at the highest settings you need to upgrade to the latest cards, not ones that are year old.

You must all remember that it was only a demo, and that both Nividia and ATI/AMD will be working on their drivers to get more performance. Someone mentioned HL2 earlier, well remember when that came out? It took ages to get it right, there was the stuttering bug and lots of other little problems. Now Crysis comes a long and has to deal with the extra headache of Vista. Trying to get it work with Dx9 and Dx10. So I think there will be a patch very soon after release date based on the reactions to the demo.

I agree with SFtheWOLF. I played the demo and I have an ATI X1800XT and 2GB ram on vista 32bit. It plays really well on 1920*1080 on medium settings. And wow, it really looks fantastic, explosions look great, shooting the trees and sheds and everything is great fun. As is shooting the tires off the trucks and then trying to drive them. I was worried that I would have to upgrade my system to play it, but, I won't have to and now it's a definate on my shopping list!!

Yeah the sword of Shannara series were great. I liked Raymond Feist's the Magican as well. Stephen Donaldson - The Thomas Covenant books were great. All of the Discworld novels by Terry Pratchett. Terry Goodkind's Sword of truth series. Stephen Kings - the dark tower. And nearly every David Gemmell book. Lord of the rings by tolkien as well.

these are some of my favorite books and ones that I keep returning to and rereading.

I think it's sad as well that He died, but, He really dragged out the WOT as long as possible. First 3 or 4 books were amazing, then they just got too repetitive and boring to continue. He could have been on Par with Tolkien and Goodkind in my mind if He had written the WOT in 5 or 6 books.

Another Author died recently as well and He was an one of my Favorite Authors and I was really shocked and saddened when I learned of his death. To me He is a much bigger loss to the Heroic Fantasy genre than Robert Jordan. His name, David Gemmel, probably one of the best story tellers ever.
