| | LOL WOT?! Does 3D Mark take advantage of hull->tesselation->domain shaders? Does it even know how to use 1/2 of the stream processors? Do those bench marks even mean anything? Haha poor us, we stopped thinking years ago... where is my bib for drooling... Flag this | Edit this post |

| | You know what would be more interesting... if there were no HD-DVD copiers out in the world anymore and then Microsoft used the format for their next version of the Xbox to store content... that would be interesting (pirates would have issues with that :-) ). Flag this | Edit this post |

| | The problem with raytracing is the number of calculations required to achieve real time interaction (60fps). Anyone that says it can be done with less than 100 processors currently is fooling you. Maybe sometime in the future we'll see this :-). Flag this | Edit this post |

| "I think this is the point where the PS3 will begin to eclipse the X360 in sales[...]"
I doubt it, because I can't think of a single friend that is buying a PS3 (current) when this game comes out... they already bought their PS3s in anticipation of this game. Don't be surprised when there is no uptick in consoles when MGS4 comes out. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Buy AMD Video Cards :-) After attending the AMD graphics track for tesselation in a low-poly world this year at GDC I realized that the top card is really the HD 3870 due to its extreme power and ability when it comes to things like control box animation with a high tesselation count. I thought I'd never buy AMD/ATI video cards again, but now I'm dying for Fry's to lower their prices to buy (with christmast gift certificate) :-). Flag this | Edit this post |

| Classic over-reactive drama: "I'm sure you are just an internet troll"
Orion is right when he says the war is far from over, what is the install base for HD-DVD and Bluray compared to say the install base of DVD? How fast is HD-DVD, Bluray selling compared to DVD? Will the Porn industry support Bluray?
Personally, I couldn't care less about this ridiculous format war because I do direct downloads of my videos. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I think you offer a great question, but the first question of all is: "What is True High Definition Resolution?". Do we swallow the Sony pill that says it's 1080p or the Microsoft pill that says 720p is high def? Or better yet do we just say that "it looks great" and live with that?
On to your question dealing cheating in the high def arena. I think first that my question needs to be answered, and then you or I need to discern what things are important to make a game fun (since fun should be the goal of any game).
As far as Halo3 is concerned, I have my answer but that is because I went to a graphics talk at GameFest last year when Bungie was talking about combining HDR and LDR lighting (and omg was it awesome!) and that swayed me to like their finished product because I know they went over every detail (sound, physics,ai,graphics, networking, overall gameplay) with a fine toothed comb! :-) Flag this | Edit this post |

Do you even know the main differences between DirectX and OpenGL... like for starts DirectX actually includes audio and math libraries or perhaps that Direct3D can implement ideas 10 years before the OpenGL ARB even thinks of convening. To be honest I like OpenGL, I started on it as a hobbyist before I started working with D3D. Ahhh the fond memories of stack based matrix manipulation. Flag this | Edit this post |
