| | I prefer pseudo-realism, where the game makes you think it's realistic but in actuality you are performing heroics that a real character would seldom attempt and even more seldom survive. Games should model reality (reality within the internally consistent game environment) as closely as possible, then diverge from reality where needed to make it fun. Combat in any era is not fun, so a game system that takes reality too far will not be fun either - but it should always look realistic even when it's not to avoid jarring your suspension of disbelief. | | I can't imagine that at this point there is anything worth finishing, or that an external team could get past the same hurdles that stopped the internal team from doing anything productive. If Gearbox confirms that it is working on the game and has complete control then I'll celebrate; otherwise it just proves how hard it is to eradicate vaporware. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I'd have no problem paying $15 for five good maps except that Activision intentionally blocked all free (read: competing) fan-created content. So, screw 'em. I can live just fine without MW2 even though I was really anticipating it. The goose still laid the golden egg, but it won't have my little chunk of cheese in it. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Guys, this is the work product of many, many people. Being upset - even being convinced that Activision and Infinity Ward are ruining PC gaming forever - is not justification for stealing other people's work product and intellectual property. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Considering that the $400 HD5870 is "a direct competitor" in double precision power, I'd say this is going to be a huge flop for NVIDIA. However, TSMC's ongoing problems still give them time to correct the problems before too much damage is done to market share. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Thanks for the fair and frank review. I certainly wouldn't have minded waiting another six months for a version that played to the PC's strengths. I might even have paid $60, even knowing the game play would be extremely short.
One small bright spot, the consolization of PC games will eliminate the need for frequent upgrades. I won't be buying any of this kind of crap - why would anyone spend a thousand bucks on a gaming PC to get a $300 console experience? As more and more people move to consoles and the market for PC games (outside of MMOs and The Sims) shrinks, developers will have to relax requirements to squeak by. Until there's a widespread revolution in TV resolution, this is as good as it's going to get. I suppose Crysis will go down as the highwater mark of PC gaming graphics. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Stay tuned for MW3 for PC - an actual dead, rotting rat carcass instead of a disk.
Screw Infinity Ward and the horse (Activision) it rode in on. IW made its name and money on the PC, and if it no longer wants to support that platform it should at least have the decency to not make a brain dead cheapo console port. The game I most anticipated is now the game I'll most enjoy not buying, and one of my four favorite developers is now rectum non gratis in my household. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » 3D Realms complains about a game schedule being moved back? I thought 3D Realms was being liquidated and its IPs sold off to pay creditors; why do they care about Duke Begins?
In any case it's incredible moxie for 3D Realms to complain about a game's development schedule being moved back. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Hilarius!
After Hollywood turned down his new scripts where Jews destroy civilization and eat babies (Mad Max 4: This Time it's Kosher) and where Jewish terrorists conspire to rob Fort Knox and destroy America's supply of Christmas ornaments and artificial trees (Lethal Weapon 5: The Jews That Stole Christmas), what choice did he have?
I like the guy okay, don't get me wrong. But he has "issues".

| Thanks for the quote, RippedBuff. I was on Christopher Lennertz's side until I read that, but now I can see he's a whiny little bitch who wants to eat his cake and have it too. He evidently believes that the "most basic values and tenents of copyright and intellectual property" are that he gets to sell his creation and still control it. That says a lot about his entitlement mentality and removes any respect I might have had for the man.
EDIT: Oh come on! "Entitlement?" This kind of mindless New York Times automated censorship on a technology site? You've got to be freaking joking. If you want to censor your posters, fine, but blanking out random streams of letters that spell out naughty words (not to mention naughty words used in prime time television) makes FiringSquad look like a bunch of idiots. | » Introducing Doom 4! Now with even bigger monsters leaping out of even bigger closets!
I enjoyed most of Doom 3 after applying the duct tape mod. What, I can't hold a flashlight AND a pistol? Am I a one-armed space Marine? Maybe I'm a short bus commando?
That said, I'll be lined up to buy Doom 4 when it comes out. It IS idSoftware, after all. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Catch his presser? "I have disappointed and failed to live up to the standard I expected of myself," he said. In other words, Hey, I'm as shocked as you. I'm a victim here, and you can bet I'm going to get to the bottom of this.

| You know, there CAN be life after Bush Derangement Syndrome. With luck and determination and several years of intensive therapy, you could put this behind you and maybe even find gainful and fulfilling employment in either the hospitality or the food services industries.
