Good thing I have waited lol. I dont think i will upgrade my vid card till 2H this year but I guess the 285 will still be top dawg then for Nvidia and I can just grab a pair of those and slap them in SLI to replace my venerable 8800 Ultras.
And honestly I would have to agree...to a certain extent. I think this should have been what Vista was originally intended to be...ah well better late than never I say...good thing I skipped Vista. XP x64 rocks!
Agreed. I am a big fan of shortcuts as well. I even read today on xbitlabs that they are saying the OS will get released early October or something like that...in time for the holiday season...personally I will wait till SP1 will be released some time next year which should tie in with my upgrade time quite nicely! :)
Wow nice. Currently I am actually in the process of beating the FEAR trilogy. I am almost towards the end of Extraction Point and up next is Perseus Mandate. So far enjoying it. I am playing it on my 8800 Ultras in SLI with everything maxed out at 2560 x 1600(4xaa and 16x af) but no soft shadows. I dont think AA works with soft shadows if I rememember. Also my CPU is at 3.4 ghz and 1600 fsb so I am guessing my performance...cpu not withstanding should be pretty close to this setup if I get a couple of 285s and slap them in SLI. Pretty awesome looking game this FEAR 2!
I have a couple 8800 Ultras in SLI and they installed just fine. I think if you go to Nvidia's site and search for drivers specifically for the 8 series you should still see them. Or it could be some 8 series cards are no longer supported. I am not sure but it is an old series of cards after all :)
I am curious as well like you but I hope that DX 10 or 10.1 does not get repeated all over again with ATI only implementing the specification and Nvidia not giving a damn about it.
Also it would help if the developers took to the newer DX versions and had better implementations of their games. I think till to date only one of the more recent games proved to be more performance in DX 10 mode than in DX 9. All in all given the early promises by Microsoft and other game developers of how cool DX 10 would be it sure as heck was a disappointment. I am sure others will disagree but I call it as I see it...through performance.
I guess I could think about it this way as well that DX 10 was only around for a relatively short period of time given how long DX 9 has been around. That time is a huge factor since it gave the developers a lot of time to really maximize and tweak the most out of the DX 9 codepath...the same advantage just simply did not exist for DX 10...and also the games had to be written to work on both DX 9 and DX 10 so that could have hurt DX 10 performance as well....
Well I look at it this way. There are always people who are going to be buying new computers given the current way things are. And apparently Intel agrees with me. I personally run on a 2 year plan. My current computer is a little over a year old. I have been looking forward to the Westmere releases to upgrade my computer and if its Q4 of this year then it falls right in my 2 year plan! :) I have a Qx9650 EE processor oclocked to 3.4 ghz and 1600 mhz FSB and a couple of 8800 ultras in SLI coupled with a 30 inch HP monitor. Granted most games are not CPU limited, but Crysis and Warhead sure are!
» Dont understand... I don't understand I mean I played Warhead and there were no hoops for me to jump through other than punching in the game code. Are people that lazy nowadays that people want everything for free? How is having Securom made your lives miserable? All I am seeing is a blatant excuse to get something for free whilst leveraging and condoning piracy. I must be missing something here. Starforce was an abomination I will give it that. But seriously the game devs are coming out upfront and giving you the full details as to what the DRM will and wont do. Is it the phoning that the DRM will do over the internet that has users up in arms? Has it been proven that it is sending out private information from your computer? Please someone just explain it to me.
Interesting. Care to share your experience? Where I work the whole development team is pretty much Indians. Hell other than most of management this Fortune 100 company is pretty much running on their hard work. Still not everyone can have the positive experience I have had. Care to share?
