| Hi,
I tried to post a response to the article on the site, but strangely, there's a mysterious HTML error that prevents it.
I've been a paying subscriber there for years and this is unacceptable.
Here's what I was going to post on GameSpot in case anybody cares:
Oh please...
What a limp statement that is. We really don't buy it and many are jumping (or have jumped) off of the site for good because of this nonsense.
Do you have any idea how this has hurt your credibility? You probably don't care as CNET has always had the vision that disgruntled readers will be replaced in time by new folks who are ignorant of these types of controversy.
If there wasn't any fire under all of this smoke, then you wouldn't be throwing up flags like "confidentiality statements". You’d come out, with Jeff’s backing and discuss what’s up and clear the air. Confidentiality be dam@ed; if both parties agree to discuss the particulars, then there is no legal consequence.
All that this serves to do is to make you look like bad liars and insult the intelligence of your reader base.
I'm sticking around to support Alex N, for now, but any more of this nonsense and more of us are going to leave as well.
One thing that you have forgotten from business school is the value of “word of mouth”. You do so at your peril as there appears to be a tidal wave that will not go away and is aimed straight at you. Flag this | Edit this post |

| For now, but have you heard about the requirements for Intel's new QX9770? No engineering samples yet they're announcing at the same time as the Phenom.
Plus, it appears that the processor won't work with the X38 chipset and will require that you use an X48 board instead.
AMD on the other hand is maintaining compatiblity with AM2 and AM2+ boards, so you won't have to do yet another motherboard upgrade to use the Phenom.
Intel's getting a little "squirrelly" with their technology announcements.
It'll be fun to see where we all are at this time next year. Flag this | Edit this post |

| So, how's that boat trip down de-Nile going?
Things are going to get interesting now that K-Mart has joined the HD-DVD only ranks. That'll easily offset Target's Blue-Ray stance.
Then if you throw in BestBuy (even if they sell both formats)...
Self-proclaimed videophiles will continue to root for Blue-Ray just like audiophiles tout the supremecy of LPs.
The "common man" is going to go for what costs the least and looks good on the new HDTV that he/she just bought. And as another post points out, 1080p is still a bit pricy and main-stream sales seem to be in transition to 1080i so the 1080i resolution limit probably won't hinder sales. | Especially with Wal-Mart doing things like selling the A2 for < $100 in a one-day promotion which you know they'll repeat if they sell out.
Zealotry aside, it's a numbers war folks. John Q Public doesn't care about technical this or that, they just want HD discs of some type that'll make their recently purchased HDTV impress their friends.
Ok, that was harsh, some folks do care about the picture quality, sorry... Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Add to that the recent "before" and "after" sat images of the site. The large structure has "magically" vanished. Not just bombed out, but vanished. Now tell me, if this wasn't a clandestine facility, why would the Syrians "sanitize" the site so quickly and not use the bombed building for propaganda? Flag this | Edit this post |

| "find few new and fun things" - Man, talk about arrogance.
You're hanging out with the wrong "older" folks.
Hell, some of us love the new games. I've got a bunch of over 50 friends who love team playing in Half Life and Halo3 to mention just a few.
You need to expand your world view young one... Flag this | Edit this post |

| And Nolan's still relevant because? Folks this is the man who created Chucky Cheese expressly to expose kids to the early Atari arcade games.
I guess that you could argue that CC is a way for families to be together, but that's not what I see when we go there.
Anyway, I guess that my point is that it seems a little hypocritical for him to take this stance.

| Wow, making a few assumptions are we? Some of us have saved up for quite a while and can finally buy this equipment.
Sorry, if you don't earn enough, but don't bitch out those who can.
I agree, however, that these player prices do need to come down fast. I remember the same siutation with the old laser discs. The Magnavox player was great, but it was VERY expensive. LD sales gained traction once Pioneer and others had players for ~$150.
Until this happens, DVD will get the market share. Most people work hard for their money and can't afford to jump on every new tech band-wagon. Flag this | Edit this post |

| As long as the scratches aren't on the lacquered side it's not that big of a problem.
The face-down side is just plastic and can be buffed up to remove the scratches. The lacquered side is where the data layer lives (I know, I'm stating the obvious). Flag this | Edit this post |

| Fisherman's just bored and looking for something to do.
Most of these nay-sayers sound like they're trying to pick fights. Kinda' like my kids do when they're bored. Only thing is, they're 9 and 12, so it's to be expected.
How about we actually play it and then see? Flag this | Edit this post |

| They probably wouldn't get the same margins on the new motherboards that support the higher-speed memory.
I have to wonder at the timing of this product. The PCIe2.0 boards are due out this fall, so why would you buy one of these now? Of course these new motherboards would add an upgrade path for them and allow even more revenue. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Unfortunate as it is, I think you're right. I foresee well-lined pockets for the upper echelon at Havok and SSDC (different company) for the folks in the trenches.
End result, only optimizations for Intel and then Havok slowly absorbing into the Intel collective until it's irrelevant. Which would be a hell of a shame consdidering all of the hard work the workers put into the product.
And Kessandra, the percentages aren't that overwhelming in gamers using Intel. Not enough to alienate a segment of the market. Flag this | Edit this post |
