| Worse, not everyone in prison is GUILTY.
Moreover, everyone in prison (even the rapists and murderers, no matter how dangerous, deranged, evil, and/or psychopathic) is a person and as such afforded certain protections and basic human rights by the Constitution and its amendments (including the aptly-named Bill of Rights), by the common law of the United States, and by basic humanist morality. We don't (as a supposedly moral society) get to torture or abuse them for kicks, or even for vengeance, sweet as it may seem.
I have no illusions about my own failings: I've often wished agony on those who've wronged me, and if someone raped or murdered a member of my family I don't know what I'd do, but I suspect it would be violent. All the same, it would be our society's responsibility to not only capture, prosecute, and punish the guilty, but also protect them from me and anyone else who might, in grief and rage, try to mete out "street justice".

| There's the ever-popular "loss leader" effect to consider. The BluRay players must make a profit to be... um... profitable. The PS3 can be sold at a loss, knowing that accessory and game sales (including indirect revenue from 3rd party houses paying licenses) will follow.
The real equation depends on how much they want to make on the player vs. how much they feel they can lose on the PS3.
Also, every BluRay device sold helps the format gain traction, but some of the expected PS3 sales stem from it being a (relatively) inexpensive BluRay player. This means they will need to take into consideration the fact that a cheaper stand-alone player could reduce PS3 sales.
Not that I don't agree with you that 90%+ of Gartner's analysts is of the "insert head into rectum, base proclamations on observations made there" variety... Flag this | Edit this post |

| I don't think anyone without an agenda has limited "sentience" to humans in quite a while.
Assuming you are speaking of "self-awareness" or "sapience" (ability to act based on reasoned judgements), there is widespread understanding that several primates (including all the great apes, if I recall), elephants, and possibly dolphins are "sentient". From what I have read, dolphins are a tricky point since they have such a different frame of reference and rely heavily on a sense we lack and have a tougher time touching or visually inspecting themselves than we do. | Could it have been Microsoft demanding a large upfront payment and a HUGE cut or any profits, topped off by a ballooning budget?
Remember, folks, VG-to-Movie adaptations have sucked just about as hard as Movie-to-VG "adaptations" (please pronounce that as "marketing"). Comic-to-Movie adaptations at least had the first 2 Superman movies and the Tim Burton Batman movies (screw the Schumacher films) to show they could be good. So far video games have had the likes of Mario Bros. and all the Uwe Boll dreck to make their case. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Uh, spoiler warning? No? Your gonna put the results right in the post title so it shows on the front page, you say? Interesting.
My wife watches that show AND is a casual gamer (Psychonauts, Fable, Halo 1 & 2, Burnout 2-4, etc.). I had to warn her to ignore FiringSquad until she got the finale off our TiVo. She's been hoping for a hands-on preview of the WHEE! Flag this | Edit this post |

| John Madden is the reason I watch football with my thumb on the mute button. Everyone seems to love him like he was Santa Claus and Vince Lombardi's love child, but I got sick of hearing maxims like "To make touchdowns, you've got to move the ball FORWARD." Dude, even my grandmother knew that.
I think Frank Caliendo would be great for about 5 minutes, then it would just be like John Madden had possessed someone else's body. Color commentary should ACTUALLY be done by Frank, Will Ferrell, and a host of others who do funny impressions, in character.
Football needs some more psychotic.
No, Marv Albert, I was not looking at you... Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0CG7dmT8u8 Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I'm 29-point-something, too, and I played through the first game and loved it. My big complaints were that you couldn't do anything with the minikits and the vehicles were on rails, so I'm glad they are improving these for the second. Flag this | Edit this post |
