| | Regarding ads in American shows. Yes, there are a lot, but you were watching the wrong channels or using the wrong equipment. All of the premium movie channels such as HBO, Showtime etc. and a lot of HD specialty channels don't have any commercials and that comprises a large portion of my watching since programming is so much better. Also, I think a lot of people download episodes off the net or use a Tivo/DVR/PVR or some other similar device. I rarely if ever watch commercials at all. Moreover, I'ev just been traveling in Asia, Europe and the UK. It's not that much better. The commercials are less annoying and there are fewer of them, but it is also true that there are much fewer channels available. Remember that Britain and Europe can rarely if ever replicate Americas 26 episode full season. Think of Coupling that had between 6 and 11 episodes and lasted only three seasons. That's less than one season of American tv. American advertising is what covers production costs and salary costs for major actors. Most mainstream shows in other countries are just american shows, but a few years behind. Other than the news coverage, which is admittedly much better overseas, I'd say TV is far superior in the states. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | The second issue after the price difference is the way that Sony handles copy protection. They are willing to make 50 paying consumers jump through hoops to stop one pirate. I bought a Sony Digital camera a few years ago. Guess what, its Stick Duo Memory format isn't compatible with anything. Non Sony laptops don't have slots for these memory sticks and you need a Sony USB cable (15-20 bucks). SD Memory came down in price much faster than Stick Duo due to increased competition. Plus, Sony memory sticks are not even all compatible amonst each other. I have to look hard to figure out which ones work with my product. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | The price does matter when you have a competeing technology that is just as good. Sure, 180p technology may eventually be added to BluRay and the 50GB over 35 might someday add more content. For now, moveie studios are leaving the same extras as before and incuding the movie in 1080i. Sicne both then provide the same functionality as of now, its is tough to justify BluRay over HDDVD. You can already find HDDVD (Toshiba) for 400 bucks. Those are prices we are more used to. Also HdDVDS cost about 24.99, also closer to what we are used to. The only question now is, is anyone willing to risk a purchase without knowing which format wins. If I knew that HdDVD was around to stay, I'd buy one at current prices. It wouldn't make for a wallet crippling purcase like BluRay. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Didn't we hear about these being commericialized a year or two ago. Looks like its stalled. I thought Sharp had a monitor they were already selling to the public to this technology or am I confusing two different things? Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Japan is also a country without the United States religious right and without two-thousand year old JudeoChristian morality being applied to modern society. We're spending a Billion dollars right now on abstinence only programs instead of teaching kids about contraception and safe sex. All 11 states that have researched their abstinence programs have found them to not work. Yet, we keep pouring money into it. That's your money being spent. I have no issue with another man's religion or religous beliefs, however, when they're spending my money badly and unscientifically and screwing this country over in about a hundred ways then I take serious issue with it. | | In fact, without cheating, you end up with far too much money anyway. The whole point is that money at least matters for a short while. Cheating for money is dumb in this game where they don't even make you wait long Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Suddenly it takes 600 dollars to get a top end graphics solution? Instead of spending all this time trying to combine cards with massive expensise increases in the style of Voodoo, they should focus on new technology and keeping to a 6-month cycle. SLI is not and will not be cost effective for a long time. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Well, Apple products are such incredible ripoffs that this doesn't matter much. Imac,Powerbooks etc. are about 1200 dollars overpriced, so, with Apple Logic its a good deal to get a 200 dollar Ipod Nano with it. Flag this | Edit this post |
