| User quote from a post buried pretty deep in the Dailytech article on the subject.

What you might not be aware of is that GS is well known for appealing mostly to hardcore gamers. The mucky-mucks have been doing a lot of "brand research" over the last year or so and indicating that they want to reach out to more casual gamers. Our last executive editor, Greg Kasavin, left to go to EA, and he was replaced by a suit, Josh Larson, who had no editorial experience and was only involved on the business side of things. Over the last year there has been an increasing amount of pressure to allow the advertising teams to have more of a say in the editorial process; we've started having to give our sales team heads-ups when a game is getting a low score, for instance, so that they can let the advertisers know that before a review goes up. Other publishers have started giving us notes involving when our reviews can go up; if a game's getting a 9 or above, it can go up early; if not, it'll have to wait until after the game is on the shelves.
I was in the meeting where Josh Larson was trying to explain this firing and the guy had absolutely no response to any of the criticisms we were sending his way. He kept dodging the question, saying that there were "multiple instances of tone" in the reviews that he hadn't been happy about, but that wasn't Jeff's problem since we all vet every review. He also implied that "AAA" titles deserved more attention when they were being reviewed, which sounded to all of us that he was implying that they should get higher scores, especially since those titles are usually more highly advertised on our site.
I know that it's all about the money, and hey, I like money. I like advertising because it pays my salary. Unfortunately after Kasavin left the church-and-state separation between the sales teams and the editorial team has cracked, and with Jeff's firing I think it's clear that the management now has no interest at all in integrity and are instead looking for an editorial team that will be nicer to the advertisors.
When companies make games as downright contemptible as Kane and Lynch, they deserve to be called on it. I guess you'll have to go to Onion or a smaller site for objective reviews now, because everyone at GS now thinks that if they give a low score to a high-profile game, they'll be[fired]. Everyone's **** scared and we're all hoping to get Josh Larson removed from his position because no one trusts him anymore. If that doesn't happen then look for every game to be Game of the Year material at GameSpot."

I wonder if it is legit. Certainly looks credible. Quick google search confirmed that there is a Josh Larson on the Gamespot staff too.

| "GameSpot and the many members of its editorial team have produced thousands of unbiased reviews that have been a valuable resource for the gaming community."
LOL, this sentence is PAST TENSE. I agree that they USED to have fair reviews but the issue is if they have fair reviews NOW. The whole statement does NOTHING to address the issue at hand and certainly does not make me want to reinstate my Total Access account which I canceled earlier today. If they want this to blow over, we need Gerstman himself out there saying that he was not fired over the K&L review.

| Personally, I still love the print mags because of their permanency. I still have copies of PC Gamer from 1994 that I love to leaf through and re-read today. What I don't have are the articles, reviews, screenshots that I used to see on HappyPuppy.com during that same time frame. Off course, I don't have internet in my bathroom yet so print mags are still a must for that reason too. :P

| Why is everyone surprised by Nancy Drew? Her games have been on top of the charts for years now. Honestly, they're not even that bad. They are pretty typical old school adventure games. The main problem with them is that every game is almost identical to the last one. They have some 18 games in the series now (they release 2 -3 new ones a year) all build on the same antiquated graphics engine with identical structures. There is just no variety.

| I find it interesting that there was absolutely no mention of Jack Black's involvement with the project. I take that as a good thing. he he. :-)
As a response to my previous rant about the game 'featuring' Jack Black... I am going to do my best to keep an open mind and not let my distaste for an actor taint my opinion of the project as a whole.

| If it is going to require the Legend disc to run anyway, then is there really a point to the download version? I'll just pick up the self contained disc version of Anniversary at launch and save my hard drive space.

| Certainly doesn't look as good as Dirt or Motorstorm but I suppose it beats Excite Truck. I'm sure it will be good fun and I hope it can bring back fond memories of Monster Truck Madness and Motocross Madness but I'll wait for a demo before pre-ordering.

| Personally, I think this sucks. I can't stand that dipsh*t Jack Black. He's not funny, he music sucks, and he can't act. I've been a fan of Shaffer's since Day of the Tentacle right through Pyschonauts be he lost me with this one.

| Why is it that the more negative press this game gets, the more I want to buy it? Is that some kind of human nature thing or something? When they first announced the game, I let out a yawn but now I'm thinking about pre-ordering the wii version. What is up with that?

| Certainly is pricey for a keyboard but I'll check it out anyway. My Saitek Eclipse is pretty filthy after 2 years of heavy use so I need a nice replacement. I also like how they used the word 'compact' in there. Most "gaming" keyboards are ungodly behemoths taking up half the desk. Hopefully this will break that trend.

Looks rather plain for $80.

| I'd like the see the benchmarks he's referring to. I've been rooting for ATI/AMD and have been following the reviews and benchmarks since the 2900xt launched. Basically, it just doesn't cut. Sure it gets nice 3DMark scores but in real world game tests, it gets walloped over and over again. I'm hoping that the 2950pro can still deliver the best bang for the buck when it launches.
