| I still firmly believe that this is initial launch price.
As much as I wish Sony to stumble because of their sub-par system quality and forcing standards down our throats they'll undoubtedly slash these prices as soon as there is excess production capacity (which doesn't seem to be an issue for the next year or so at least).
Sony can't afford to have its PS3 fail. But I consider the PS3 to be a trojan horse for blu-ray so even if it sells half as many units as the PS2, if it establishes blu-ray as the standard for HD, that alone should generate much more revenue than the game division currently does and for a longer timespan as well. | The longer it gets delayed, the more time they'll have to add new features.
If the wii is successful and the ps3 is delayed more than a few months (until, say, summer 07), than expect sony to copy point for point wii's controller.
I know I'd do it if I were them. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Actually Nintendo historically never took a hit on each console sold. These losses will surely come from setting up the distribution network for the new product, for advertising and not for the unit itself.
Huzzaz for a 200$ wii (hopefully). Flag this | Edit this post |

| The point of this actually seems to be that you can use your old card for phisics instead of throwing it away.
When I upgrade my pc whenever that is, I can put my current video card in for physics processing instead of trhowing it away or selling it for 20 bucks as there's no way in hell I'd even consider a 2 gpu setup. I think it's smart. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Not that I am any kind of Sony fan but the printer and keyboard is a moot issue with the usb port and since it will have linux, the office suite is no problem. Hasn't anybody ever heard of OpenOffice the FREE alternative to MS Office that also works under linux ? Plus the issue of the blurry text on tv is a thing of the past as all these new consoles are "supposed" to run on hd sets.
As you can all see, this is very much technically possible for normal everyday use. I just doubt it'd be widely accepted by consumers since Sony's marketing isn't focussed on it.
Actually one of the gripes of average users towards PC is that it's not simple to figure out. Most people over 50 have a hard time doing much of anything on a PC. I'd see a much brighter future for the PC platform it games installed and configured on their own with a hidden option for advanced users like us who want to choose. Think about it : pop the game cd in, it installs and set ups on its own according to your system and it boots up. All automatically. And advanced users press a predetermined set of keys at begining of setup to choose regular options. Now that would take away one of the major advantages of consoles over PC for the average joe.
I know how to install games but I don't want to bother with the hassle to install a game anymore. I'm lazy. That's why I have an xbox and a ps2. If I have a choice of a pc game and a console game, I choose the console. If I didn't have to do squat to play pc games just like for consoles, I'd be much more willing to choose it as my main machine. Flag this | Edit this post |
