| » Don't discount this statement Think about it. What's more import to Microsoft. The Xbox or Windows? Duh! The one thing in the consumer space that Windows has on all other desktop OS'es (Mac, Linux) by a mile are games. Microsoft isn't stupid and understands that if they let games slip through the cracks that they lose a significant edge for Windows.
I'll never game on a console. Never, ever, never period and then some. They suck. I hate controllers. If games disappear form the Windows ecosystem I'll get a Mac. This subject is actually a little old in that an Xbox is Windows for crying out loud, just closed hardware. Porting a game from the Xbox to a Windows PC isn’t a big deal normally. | » What about a "Day Dream" build? You go from $1500 to $6700? You can build a faster rig for gaming for $4000 (at least if you don't overclock this Dream system). You could go for a QX9650, get great a much cheaper and still more than adequate, but back on the drive setup, and still kick the heck out of this Dream system at stock for 50% less. | » You're fudding a bit... What does spam have to do with ANY OS in particular? Spam is spam and its all over, nothing to do with Windows Mobile or Desktop/Server in particular.
I've been using Windows CE in PDA and smartphone factors for three years, have installed a lot of software and written some as well with the .Net Compact Framework, and though I've hear of a couple of Windows CE devices and tricks, I've never SEEN EVEN ONE!
Yes, there are threats and threat potential, but I'm starting to think that its the "security experts" that want us to spend more and more money on their products versus real threats. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Windows Mobile lets you install what you like, for now at least Regardless of how you might feel about Microsoft and Windows, Windows Mobile is really just a computer that has a phone, and you can install all the software you want, at least for now. I know that there are rumblings about certificates and signing going on, but at lest for now, Windows Mobile is wide open.
Heck all you need is Visual Studio and you can write your own stuff, very much like writing for desktop/server Windows. It's very slick.
The iPhone may be the coolest thing in the history of the universe, but at the end of the day, it, like any other PDA/phone, well, its mainly for making phone calls! Flag this | Edit this post |

| » This is the way Steam works It looks like you still have the same long download process as Steam, it pre-loads like steam so you just have to download a decrypter at launch time.
How much is this? You have to sign up it looks to even know what the charge is it looks to me. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » It would be nice but where's the money! Bottom line, there's just no money at the Federal level to do this, and even less support.
While I would love to see this happen, we've got an 8.5 TRILLION dollar debt, and babby boomers start reaching 62 next year.
Maybe Bill Gates and Warren Buffet and fund it. Really. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I'm having the same problem. I posted the issue on 3D Relms Forum and got some config settings that did seem to work.
Look for widescreen in the forums over there. I'm sure that there's an answer. And the production version shouldn't have this problem I hope. Not in 2006. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Which ever gets cheap first will win this round Obviosuly, not many are going to buy a $1000 player, I know I'm not. To me the quality jump isn't there over standard DVD9 in most cases.
But eventually HD-DVD and/or Blu-Ray will become dramatically cheaper, just like DVD9. The winner I think will be the one that gets there first. If they both get cheap equally fast, then I'm out of ideas.
I'm not going to get one, Blu-Ray and/or HD-DVD till the PC drives and players hit $300. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Its about money They are simply trying to cut costs, since they know they'll have a big battle on their hands when Intel released Core 2 Duo next month.
Rumors are they are going to be cutting costs by 50% on some products.
Preview tests flying around are indicating that a baisc $300 Core 2 Duo is outperforming a $1000 AM2 Athlon FX-62. That's very bad for AMD.
If these numbers hold up, man I'd be tempted to upgrade, but I'm trying to keep going with my 939 4800+ until I can but together a Vista system.
I really don't want to buy hardware for Vista this early. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Vista will be a great OS As far as Vista is concerned, I've been running the betas since September, and at first, the going was rough, but the Beta 2 of Vista (I'm running the 32-bit version on a test box) along with the Office 2007 Beta 2 are probably the best betas that Micorosft has ever released. Vista has been in development a very long time, it will be close to six years when its finally introduced, and while its not what Microsoft had planed it all to be be, it will be solid from the start I believe because the primary focus of this OS is security. Of course there will be issues, but its just more secure than Windows XP right now, as well as IE 7, espcially the 64-bit versions.
As far as Halo is concerned, I hate the fact that they do not co-release the games for PC's, but I don't really do consoles (never bough an Xbox and may never by a 360 either) as do a lot of PC types, I need my mouse and keyboard. It will be updated and for the PC no doubt, but Microsoft needs to stop this artifical division of the Xbox and the PC. To me, the Xbox is a game platform for people who don't want to spend the money for a gaming PC, which is fine, but we PC gamers spend 10 times the money on our systems, and will spend the cash on the games, so Microsoft, stop this crap. The highend PC is the ultimate gaming system, so let your franchise game shine on the PC. You don't make money on Xbox hardware anyway! Flag this | Edit this post |
