More like 2x 4850 for less than 260 GTX.

4850 for $150 each.

Not really man , ATI have always been good at AA mode , it really depends on which AA mode you use.

Narrow-tent = blurs the image
Wide-Tent = blurs the image
box & Edge-detect = They are good quality mode
8x Edge Detect + Quality Adaptive AA = Ass whopping AA mode that destroys everything.

I don't generally play any games without turning up the AA. Thats reason i like this site , it caters more to analytical enthusiast audience.

I sorted out result 4xAA vs 8xAA computerbase benchmark:

Unreal Tournament 3 1600x1200 4xAA/16xAF:
GTX 280 : 145
HD4850 : 65
9800GTX : 81

Unreal Tournament 3 1600x1200 8xAA/16xAF:
GTX 280 : 72
HD4850 : 63
9800GTX : 34

Clive Barker's Jericho 1600x12004xAA/16xAF:
GTX 280 : 53
HD4850 : 29
9800GTX : 25

Clive Barker's Jericho 1600x1200 8xAA/16xAF:
GTX 280 : 26
HD4850 : 28
9800GTX : 7

FEAR 1600x1200 4xAA/16xAF:
GTX 280 : 147
HD4850 : 92
9800GTX : 83

FEAR 1600x1200 8xAA/16xAF:
GTX 280 : 93
HD4850 : 60
9800GTX : 49

Call of Juarez 1600x1200 8xAA/16xAF
GTX 280 : 30
HD4850 : 21
9800GTX : 20

Call of Juarez 1600x1200 8xAA/16xAF
GTX 280 : 24
HD4850 : 17
9800GTX : 6

Company of heroes 1600x1200 4xAA/16xAF
GTX 280 : 84
HD4850 : 46
9800GTX : 47

Company of heroes 1600x1200 8xAA/16xAF
GTX 280 : 66
HD4850 : 42
9800GTX : 35

Lost planet 1600x1200 4xAA/16xAF:
GTX 280 : 58
HD4850 : 31
9800GTX : 34

Lost planet 1600x1200 8xAA/16xAF:
GTX 280 : 45
HD4850 : 29
9800GTX : 24

Anyways , well i would never recommend any Nvidia user to use MSAA. But i love to see any article :

9800GTX+ vs 4850
In 9800GTX , you should use 16xCSAA
In 4850HD , you should use 8xMSAA

16xCSAA vs 8xMSAA are about equal in IQ quality.

then some benchmarking with 8x Edge Detect + Quality Adaptive AA which is a whop ass kicking AA mode.

now i really wish this site would let me link a web page because i did create a comparison of AA mode using beyond3d image but with rollover mouse ;) technique.

Your the coolest editor : )

Still listening to your readers. I asked few other editors from other website to do 8xAA benchmarking but none would reply back. Can you also do 16xMSAA with crossfire ?

Super thanks in advance : )

When did you get 8800GTX+ ? That was really quick response from nvida. Anyways , this is a paper launch which i remember nvidia vowing never to again. Also your 4850 doesn't match alot of score i have reading from other site. Did you have enough time to finish the review ?

This is the 1st time i that i have been disappointed of your review. Has your standards gone down ? where is 8xAA benchmark.

Well the best way to analysis a card after reading the review, i just sort out the benchmark to analysis it to get better understanding. I am still hopping Nvidia drops the price of GTX 280 because i would really buy it for $500.

Nvidia marketing on damage controls. leaking rumors of their plans to combat 4850.
A $200 4850 destroys the 9800GTX when using higher res and high AA, especially 8xAA. 9800GTX+ is a just another nvidia marketing stunt to stop people buying the 4850. 9800GTX should be priced at $150 to make it competitive.

A driver that magically improves 9800GTX performance by 30% as soon as ATI launch 4850.

A 9800GTX+ will not close the performance gap because the gap can't be closed unless some architectural change is done. a 60Mhz overclocked 9800GTX is just a marketing stunt to confuse people.

9800GTX gets destroyed when you use 8xAA with 4850.

» ATI bugs
Okay so the game has gone gold and it shipping with the bugs for that will effect every ATI owners that can run the game. Is it ATI fault for the bugs or should i be annoyed by developer not even testing the game on ATI GPU untill they did the beta where user found the bugs for them. Like did they even think "we should test on ATI card before we release the beta". Also when the bugs were found they didn't even bother to fix it before the game went gold. Why should i wait one month before they release a patch to fix the bug and also performance issue just because they were damn lazy to test the game on ATI card on the whole development cycle.

Okay Bioshock pc demo was delayed for giving ATI and Nvidia to tweak the driver. They also made sure the game ran on both company GPU. Like Epic pc game are in Nvidia TWIMTP program too but they make sure the game runs on ATI gpu without major problem. So why couldn't Massive make sure the game ran on both company GPU like Epic , Valve , ID , Blizzard make sure they do.

Kyle again :(

He is an idiot... his action never ceases to amaze me anymore. I remember when he toke out his best forum and then reopened it but charging people to post on it. $5 a year…
Also I remember him abusing a website that revealed that Nvidia was cheating in benchmarking and Kyle protected nvidia by saying they only said that because Nvidia wouldn't let them benchmark doom 3.

When AEG was revealed and a lot of member were found of being an AEG member instead of banning them like other website did he protected the all the AEG members but not only that but banned everyone that was disagreeing with him on that matter.

Or the time where he reviewed the BFG motherboard and gave it an awesome review when they were the worst Nforce 4 motherboard.

Kyle is Nvidia's Bitch and he some has some real good tie with Nvidia but so do other review website.

Anyways Firing Squad isn't the 1st website to point out the stupidness of Kyle
