ooh, another game they don't get to sell me, sad, because I actually wanted this one. I'd have picked up Spore on an impulse buy at some point if it wasn't drm'd up. I'd have even gotten the crysis expansion without drm.

I just don't understand how the publishers can NOT understand that drm ONLY hurts legitimate users. A hack/crack will be out for their product within days, sometimes hours. And the pirates don't have to jump thru hoops for the drm.

If your game doesn't sell well, don't blame piracy. Blame your game sucking, blame drm sucking and blame your own marketing/design decisions sucking. If it's a good game, and it doesn't sell, there's usually a reason for it.

I'm still not entirely convinced that Blizzard isn't just screwing with us to see how far outta hand things will get and what people will believe.

3 seperate games I could almost believe, but latest I've heard is they may be released up to a year apart.

All I need is one more WTF?! decision in the game's announcements and I'll call bullshit and assume they are just screwing with us for laughs.

There are a *few* songs I would be willing to pay more for, but not every song on a weekly basis. Not even close.

At their current low price point, I even get a lot of songs that I don't really like to begin with on the off chance that they'll be fun to play. Hell, pretty much the ONLY thing I haven't gotten in months was the Pixie's Album (can't stand them) so by jacking up the price, they'd have lost a guesstimated 50% of the sales to me.

Music industry, feel free to blast yourself in the foot even more. The more artists that finally learn you're a bunch of crooks and parasites that ONLY exist so you can take from them, the more will leave you and find other successful ways of bringing their music to the masses.

Yeah, all the DLC has been confirmed as crosscompatable, on the theory that RB is a "platform" as a whole. There's even rumors/talk of the songs from RB1 being available to current game owners as DLC or possibly some ripping utility so you could play it from within RB2 and have ALL the songs in one place, which would be pretty sweet if it happens. They've even confirmed that even after RB2 launches, the weekly DLC will continue to be compatable with both RB and RB2.

I base my theory that the songs in RB2 will be much more awesome than the DLC we get up to the release time on the idea that HMX wants RB2 to have as much "impact" & "wow factor" as possible at launch, so any really awesome stuff they have in the DLC pipe went into it, and not the regular DLC queue. And the DLC list through the release of the new GH:WT should also be strong, since it's a direct competitor to the RB platform.

Hey, at least the last few weeks have been by bands that people have actually heard of. That's a good thing in my book.

Not to mention next week The Who MegaPack.

I'm imagining that none of the DLC between now and the release of RB2 will be terribly earth shaking. My money is on them saving the big guns for RB2.

So the 9800GTX is really just an 8800GTS-512 with an extra sli connector for tri-sli and a bit of tuning on the various clocks.

Oh yeah, that really make me want to "upgrade"...

Further proof that all of the g92 based cards should have been named using the 8900 series numbers, it'd have eliminated a lot of confusion AND set a more realistic expectation about their performance. Someone should get fired over all this...

Plenty of room for both, mmo's, FPS, RTS & Empire building games and hard core simulation games are owned by the pc.

Platformers, music/rythm games, racing and anything multiplayer from a single system are owned by the console market.

RPG games have always been a wildcard, featuring decent games on both platforms. FPS games are making in-roads on consoles (but I maintain FPS games are optimally played keyboard+mouse, screw your crappy little thumb sticks! :) )

Both have their place, and both are valued in many households, including mine. I can't imagine life without my PC or 360.

Anyone that thinks either platform is going away anytime soon should have their head examined or pass me some of whatever they are smoking. :)

All what horsepower? As I said above, this is NOT a new product. This is a pair of downclocked 8800gts-512's bolted together.
It's not hip. It's not "edgy". It's an overpriced chunk of existing tech being passed off as something new and innovative.

Even the forthcoming 9800GTX isn't going to be a huge step up from an 8800GTS-512. It's only selling point is Tri-SLI capability. Because you know, Tri-SLI was such an awesome performing hit before...

This is nvidia's netburst (i.e. they are going to sit on the g80 and it's die shrinks and milk them for all their worth, till ATI can actually manage to put out a product that can challenge or beat them and wakes them up, or enough customers finally wake up and realize what nvidia's doing to them.

Am I a fan of nvidia? Sure.
Am I a BLIND fanboy of nvidia? Hell no. If Ati can crank out something awesome that can spank the mighty g80/g92 cores, lots of us would buy it. But 1st they have to build it.

I haven't been this UNexcited by an nvidia product launch EVER.

The 9800GX2 should have been rightfully called the 8900GX2. The entire "series 9" line are nothing more than a die shrink on the g80's used by the 8800 series.

Is the card "pretty"? Sure.
Is it "innovative"? Not terribly much.
Is it "badassed"? Not even remotely.

The only people with ANY reason to buy this product are those who have mobo's incapable of running SLI.

For everyone else, adding a 2nd card in SLI to your existing video or replacing your existing cards with a pair of 8800GTS-512's (which will tie or beat the 9800gx2)and at $200 LESS than the single "monster" card, there's even cash left over for a decent SLI motherboard if that was what was holding you back...

This video card has fail written all over it.

Bioshock was definately a good title, but I also have to place CoD4 above it as my #1 game of the year. CoD4's attention to detail was amazing. It's only real downfall was the single player was somewhat short. But even short, it had a compelling story.

While interesting, Bioshock just didn't bring enough suspension of disbelief for me to really enjoy it, it's universe, indeed the entire game, felt "forced" to me.

Gears of War and The Witcher both surprised me with how good they were. Espically GoW, because I was expecting "just another crappy console shovelware port", and it turned out to be better than the console to me.

In the category of "I can't believe they screwed this port up", we have to go with the PC version of Guitar Hero 3. You get slowdowns even on excellent hardware, and in a music/rythm game, studdering is the kiss of death. And no custom tools! This was a KILLER game for the mod community at large, or even downloadable content if they were determined to keep it all "in house". But nope, no such luck. Definately a WTF were you thinking title.

I'm almost to the point with MMO's that I'm not going to even try one that hasn't been out 8months to a year. Too many sweeping changes get made (nerfs) and everyone just gets pissed off and quits. If the game can last a year and still have a strong community, it'll be a candidate for my cash, not before. Way too many letdowns recently with major launch MMO's.

In fact, there should be a moratorium on the entire fantasy mmo genre for at least 2 years.

I'm sure that's just placeholder graphics to test system functionality, virtually every major mmo has done the exact same thing. Besides, the game is so far out it should barely even be a blip on anyones radar yet.

Damn right! If AMD wasn't there, we'd all still be using something about as powerful as a Pentium II, that we paid over a grand for.

Owning a C2D E6600, I wish AMD all the best of luck in making a product that makes me WANT to buy from them. That'll keep Intel on their toes.

The awesome thing is, even with it's age, Eve still looked really good. No other game it's age looks even remotely as good these days.

The extra graphics should be terribly cool, and shift the main burden of the game off the cpu (where it currently is) to the GPU (which with the current engine, is pathetically under used) should be a performance bonus to anyone with an even remotely current video card.

Neither camp, HD or BluRay has yet to provide a single compelling reason for me to upgrade over standard DVD. That's why laser disc failed competing against VHS. Was it a better tech with better picture, sure it was. Did "joe consumer" give a rats ass about that? No. He saw the initial pricetag in the thousands and said screw that. Then as the laser disc became more affordable, it still never hit the magic pricepoint for consumer tech. $150 to $200. And there are LOTS of people that an "upgrade" to HD would make zero effective difference on, because their TV's picture would still be the same, since it's not a HDTV.

And good luck selling them a TV upgrade too. If they have a decently large TV that currently is in fine working order, most people will USE that TV until it dies, and HD content be damned.

» Yes, you could be
Yep, you may be the only one.
:)

It's a fun little time wasting game. And a lot of us are looking forward to the next installment of GH as well as Rock Band.

Not everyone has the manual dexterity to play a guitar in real life, even gamers with great hand-eye coordination. Guitar Hero allows them to at least simulate having some fun in that respect.

It's a game, don't like it, don't play/buy it. Plenty of us that do like it will play it, and judging from the rising popularity of the genre as a whole, I'm not alone on that one.

Sorry Ageia, your card remained too expensive because you weren't selling enough of them. And there was no "killer app" to make people feel that they truely "needed" your product.

It was a viscious circle, but unless you magically pull a rabbit outta your ass, you product is no longer on the radar, and belongs along side such winning products as the $300 craptastic network card that only people with a high percentage of disposable income and no brain in their head bought.

Well, I suppose the ePeen crowd bought a few too, nothing says self-esteem like spending ten times what a product is worth to get a "cool" one that no one else has.

Too bad it plays like a console game, not a real FPS, the "move this direction or DIE" method of gameplay went out with Dragon's Lair... Not to imply that console games can't be real FPS, but a some of the sequences felt like they belonged in a game starring mario, not badassed mega-soldiers.

Still, aside from that quibble, not a bad game, it's surely pretty and gore-fulled and the story seems interesting (play the intro to the demo incase anyone missed it)

Based on the demo, I give it a "try it". :)

At least the song will be easy, just mash keys randomly, wear something non-coformist act like you want total social collapse due to apathy while you're infront of your TV and game system, that you bought with money you got from your job, where you work 9 to 5 as a corporate clone. Boy, that "rebellion" really tastes great 6pm to 9pm. :)

Punk is officially dead folks, back away, nothing to see here buy apathy and a simmering distain for society that didn't quite take hold... move along.
