| » Changes just for change sake? I personally can't see how things like "The Dock" are going to be useful features. I don't use my computer that way, and resent being forced by the interface to do things "their way". That's what's so frustrating about Vista IMO. It was "change" that was forced on me by circumstance, and I saw no real benefit in return. Sad thing is that their isn't a really viable alternative... Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Does Anyone Else Remember the Sega Saturn? I feel a degree of pity for PS3 fans. I know you want to be loyal. And you probably hate Microsoft an Nintendo. It also seems that you don't want to listen to talk about Economics. But do you remember back when the original Playstation was launched? At that time there was another console by the name of the Sega Saturn. Alot of people argued that the Saturn was technically superior, even if it was harder to program for...
But, as a consumer, all that initially mattered to me was; 1. the games and 2. the price. See the Playstation was $300 and the Saturn was $400. So even though the Saturn was fairly popular, the Playstation sold allot more units and that meant that more publishers chose to support that platform.
Now what does that have to do with the PS3? It's simple, now the PS3 is higher priced and selling fewer units. This means that eventually it will become less viable for a game developer to spend the money to program for that platform. And when the games are no longer there, there's no compelling reason for people to buy a PS3. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I think it's the RPG elements, like SPECIAL, skills and Perks, that draws me in because I have always developed serious addictions to "Fallout" games. By comparison games like Oblivion weren't really more than mildly amusing. *deep sigh! The only reason why I don't have all the achievements for this game is that I never specialize in Charisma and I don't play an Evil character. ;) Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Keeping the 775 Alive is a Good Idea! The largest market for Intel's products is still the USA. And though some of you might not have noticed, we are in an economic recession. That said, anything Intel can do to broaden the market for it's latest technology, the better it will be for their bottom line. At the same time, if they chose not to do so, they will benefit AMD by making room for customers who want to be more cost conscious. I'm not going to complain either way. :) Flag this | Edit this post |

| » OK! ... I guess It's been just over 6 months since launch. And they are about to implement a feature they were supposed to have at "Launch"? Ok, goody for them... I guess. Just one fly in the ointment! I quit playing months ago. And I don't know anyone who still plays the game.
Oh, and BTW, Anarchy Online was far more enjoyable. I played it for about a year and a half. Which was how long it took for something else to catch my fancy. AoC never did that to me. Instead I will never be interested in ANY Funcom game in the future, because of the experience I had with AoC. You couldn't PAY me to play it. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » This is PATHETIC! "...This week Isabela Barwinska, an unemployed mother of two, became the first person in the UK to be ordered to pay damages to a manufacturer. She must pay more than £16,000 to Topware after downloading Dream Pinball through a file-sharing site..."
Understand this! I don't download games. I don't approve of those who do. But to target an "umemployed mother of two.." is heinous in it's own right. She can't pay them! And she can't afford to pay for her own defense either. So they are going to just ruin the rest of her life, and that of her children, to make a point? THAT IS MONUMENTALLY PATHETIC!!!! | I'm not sure exactly how the PC version plays. All I know is that I found the Xbox version, thoroughly enjoyable with a few minor exceptions. In fact I would rate this as the most fun I've had with ANY game since Fallout 1 & 2. And to be honest, the main reason I stopped playing was that I was tired of aesthetics of "Pink" and Black Armor. (Also when you ratchet up the difficulty level things change...)
So, I'm sorry, but Brett's evaluation of this game is really harsh. And my estimation of the judgment of the review staff has taken a significant turn for the worse! Flag this | Edit this post |

| Well I just know Sony wants to sell more PS3s. And the Economics of the situation dictate that they should lower the price. It's not like a PS3 is really an "essential" in anyone's budget. Though I'm sure some Playstation fans will disagree.
I also love to read about how they've won the "HD format war". Sadly the fact is that Sony seemed to have drummed up support for Blu-Ray in the "industry", but consumers aren't really "buying." Again, it's probably a case of a "non-essential" good being priced too high. Of course Sony Execs must have slept through Economics, it's such a boring subject! Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I've only had one Xbox 360, without any hardware issues. And there have been times when I've played 16 hours a day, for literally weeks on end (for example: after Mass Effect was released...). And of the people I know that own a 360, only one has had issues with the RRoD. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Of course not! How could watching a friend get decapitated in real life have damaging effects on your psyche? And Post Tramatic Stress disorder is just a lie...
So an Xbox 360 must be at fault. Infinity Ward should be sued! And the only solution is to shoot Hall on sight, because this game has made him a menace to society... *rolleyes
Seriously I hope Eric is alright! I just wish his family members, and the media, would learn to think more clearly. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Oh and you really expect DX10 GPUs NOT to be "overclocked, overheating, overexpensive, and noisy"??? *rolleyes*
From what I've heard ATI's fist DX10 will consume 250W. Now tell me that won't at least be "hot, noisy, and expensive". So yeah it won't be the same "old GPU" but that's about it. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » My next upgrade... Basically, I upgraded to 939-pin and PCI-E earlier in the year. So now I'm just getting a couple of X2 CPUs to get me through till the end of 2007. Maybe by then Core 2 Duo will be more plentiful (read cheaper) and the motherboard and DDR2 prices will also come down.
My next CPUs will be some AMD 64 4800+ X2s (so a stock speed of 2.4 GHz). Flag this | Edit this post |

| I personally LOVE Star Wars! I played SWG in Beta and can say from experience that it's primary downfall is that it's being handled by SOE. They have changed the people in charge of development, and hence the focus of the game, so many times that practically every Star Wars fan in existance has be alienated. Of course their track record on every other game they manage is just as bad, with one exception - the original EQ. In fact I wonder that SOE hasn't already gone belly up. Of course in the mean time SWG will never recover from the mismanagement. And I personally will avoid all SOE games like the plague... (Actually I tried EQ2 and quit playing after about 2 months...)
My only other comment about SWG is that it was the only MMORPG I've ever played where the Customer Service Reps were RUDE to me for reporting bugs with quests. Now think about that for a sec, all I was doing was checking on when some quests might actually be fixed, and they were threatening me for doing so!?! So about the time that I hear that they are going to nerf Creature Handlers... I cancelled my subscription. See the "priority" at SOE is to NERF players instead of fix bugs. And when you throw in some rude little git that's barely out of high school.... Well just remembering it causes my blood pressure to rise. I'll stop now. :p Flag this | Edit this post |

| » This reminds me of 3Dfx ... I remember those 3Dfx days fondly! I remember how much I wanted one of those Quad GPU cards... (funny how I don't remember the model number now!). The problem is that we were all just completely sucked into the hype, and now I'm glad I couldn't afford it.
My guess is that, in the not too distant future, we'll see dual GPUs on the same die. It will probably take at least an extra slot for the heatsink/fan, and the fan will sound like a leaf blower. But it will undoubtedly work better than this design does. I can't see how this is better than the attempts to have 2 GPUs on the same card?
Let's just hope that Nvidia doesn't go under like 3Dfx did when they got to this point. Cause while I really prefer ATI, I know that the competition is good for the industry. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » I take issue with your example... Sure there are some instances where having Dual Core, or some other form of SMP, can be useful. But that doesn't mean that 90% of the software has one tiny scrap of decent multi-thread code in it. I view this as being similar to 64-bit atm. There is some promise, and it performs ok, but the truth is that what support there is for 64-bit is unfulfilled, under-developed, and very poorly supported. So stuff like this is basically a 'novelty' for those that have a "need" for bragging rights!
Granted there IS "supposed" to be more emphasis on multi-threading in the future (at least now that Intel has decided to push it). But don't hold your breath waiting for much software. See part of the problem is that most people don't have the same priorities as "Enthusiasts", and "Enthusiasts" only comprise a tiny nitch in the total software market. So these same developers largely ignore enthusiasts so they have some hope of selling their software.
Think about it. Why does SLI only yeild about a 40% improvement in performance? Well one of the obvious reasons is that there isn't substancial software support. And the reason for that is because only a small segment of the gaming market have SLI, so the Developers know that they won't make any real profit by programming for it. The same thing is going to be true with PhysX. It will be used to increase the amount of "eye candy", but can't be used for real gameplay. Because if it was used for real gameplay people would need a physics processor to play...
Same thing applies here in this situation. Except AMD are really just trying to WOW you into waiting for their "pipe dream". So will there eventually be Quad-Cores in our systems?, Yes! And will there eventually be Dual-core graphics cards in our systems?, of course! But is AMD's "Quad-Father" thing gonna be cool?, maybe... SAD part is that I doubt it would be worth it. Well unless you place a really high value on bragging rights! Flag this | Edit this post |
