| » DS I have a DS and a DS Lite. Haven't felt the need to get any other portable device yet... I love my DS.
I'd really like to get an SD reader for it, with custom ROM though. In particular, I'd like to use it to read ebooks and manga. Eh... too much work. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Poorly Researched Article: Massive Development wanted to make the multiplayer game in World in Conflict much more action based than even their previous Ground Control sci-fi RTS titles. There's no resource gathering in this game, for one thing.
Except that this is no different than Ground Control... it too had no resources to gather, and was a tactical RTS, particularly in multiplayer. The author either poorly worded this sentence, or has not played (or even read about) Ground Control.
That's not the only thing that makes World in Conflict different. Instead of players controlling whole armies on the battlefields, this game actually lets players choose what kinds of units they will control on each of the two opposing sides (US and USSR) in a multiplayer match.
And
The pre-alpha multiplayer build we got to play on used the Domination gameplay mode which once again makes this game more like a FPS than an RTS game. The map contains locations that have to be captured and held.
These are definitely interesting... but they aren't new. In fact, they're pretty close to copies of how Shattered Galaxy works. Shattered Galaxy is free to try (you can subscribe for high-level benefits), so perhaps JCal could look at it. A mention of Shattered Galaxy would have been appropriate considering how close the mechanics are.
Ok, complaints over... I'm greatly looking forward to this now. Shattered Galaxy has some (huge, game breaking, breathtaking) problems, but the mechanic of many players each controlling one type of unit to capture a map is great fun. I definitely will be buying this when it comes out of it receives halfway decent reviews. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Adblock Adblocking is your friend. I would like to say that I don't use big ad-block lists... I block each ad that annoys me, and only ones that annoy me. I don't mind text ads, but annoying animation gets killfiled instantly.
I don't mind websites making money via ads. Just dislike websites annoying me overtly with ads. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » I like it. After playing with it for four days multiplayer and single, I'm sold. Most of the people I know who care about games at all prefer the Wii to the PS3. On release day we had a 10 hour party at my sister's apartment, with up to 10 people at a time visiting to play on one Wii... it was a blast. Even people who don't normally game were getting into Wii sports (particularly the bowling).
Is the Wii perfect? No. Their initial online offering is annoyingly limited. I think this review was pretty accurate on its discussion of how the Wii is right now, though I think they were overly pessimistic about the future.
And I have nothing wrong with the Interface. Fine to me, and nobody complained about it. Looks like they took a page from Apple's book... clean, white, simple. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » I'll upgrade my software when I upgrade my hardware. Vista isn't that compelling to me. I'll upgrade to Vista when I get DX10 hardware. I have a SLI 7800GT rig right now, so it won't benefit much from DX10. In a year or two, when I build my next PC, I'll get Vista. Then I'll have SP1 out, I can skip the hassle of the software pains in the first few months.

| » Agreed I was also surprised with what a good showing Nintendo had. I was already going to get a Wii (despite the name :-), but this show did make me a little more secure in my decision. The Wii will be my first console... I've only used a PC up until now, though I occasionally played games at friends houses (DDR, Zelda, etc). Flag this | Edit this post |
