| The one with Katsumi is supposed to be good, but I haven't played it so I can't give my opinion.
I thoroughly enjoyed Lair of the Shadowbroker, and the majority of the rest were free downloads from EA's Cerberus network.
The DLC may be done, but I am content with what was released and am ready for the next game. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | They are over 12 million subscribers, which is roughly 180m a month. And I agree with you, the Star Wars name will go a long way. Look how long SWG went, and that game sucked, but it was Star Wars. I think 300m is going to be a drop in the hat for Knights of the Republic. Flag this | Edit this post |

| The developers cannot make good games for the system because the controller is horrible, and it scares me when Sony and Microsoft salivate over bringing their own version out. Even with the Motion Plus, the Wii control is far from ideal, and in many cases horrible, for most genres of games.
There is a reason there are so many party games, the Wii and control scheme are a basic party system. In that aspect, the Wii is excellent, in every other aspect, the control system is a major liability. If the developers cannot make quality games due to the control scheme, the system will not sell in the end. It is still a strong novelty, but that is all it is.
Even if the system did have HD graphics on par with the 360 and the PS3, sales would still be slowing down. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Let's not forget how long MS denied their were any problems at all. It wasn't until the press started getting involved and tremendous backlash and word of mouth exploded on the internet before they finally admitted something may be wrong.
Sony and Nintendo may not have done the same, but they also haven't had massive hardware failures either. Flag this | Edit this post |

| That is one of the reasons it is a money maker still for Sony. The system is incredibly cheap to make and still has enough content to continue to sell. That is why I believe it will be around for some time.
I went the PS1, XBOX, PS3, 360, Wii route and didn't buy a PS2 until two weeks ago... you know, right before the price drop. Figures.
I am running through FF10 (PS2) right now and will revisit 9 (PS1) when I am done and since it is the only console in my bedroom, it doubles as a DVD player, something I usually do not use consoles for. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I have an extensive DVD and Blu-ray collection, but I would absolutely love to be able to buy Blu-ray quality movies like one does for music with iTunes. No disks to swap, no hassle, just click, download and watch a movie. Would be great for the kids too.
However, even with 1.5TB drives out right now, I would need a farm of HD's, and downloading 25GB movies at a time would not only take forever, but would most likely get me kicked off my ISP.
And I refuse to pay to stream movies and to only keep them for a few days. I pay for it, I own it. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Nintendo is a Japanese company and kicking MS and Sony in the pants. I seriously doubt this has anything to do with where the system comes from.
Look at this way, in Japan, the 360 is now outselling the PS3, does that say something to you? Flag this | Edit this post |

| Anyone remember when the PS2 launched one of the features was it could stand up or lay down. They even sold stands to hold the system up the PS log even turned so it could always face in the proper direction. Guess what, standing it up scratched the hell out of disks because if you pull on the control, it moves the system. The stand up "feature" and stands quickly disappeared and Sony recommended the system lay flat.
Moral of the story, this isn't necessarily MS, it is a problem with a tiny system, spinning a disk and prone to movement when it is tethered to a controller. Going wireless takes some of the equation out, but there are still many wired 360 controllers and there are times I use the PS3 recharge cable while I am playing a game. | I understand Sony taking out hardware compatability. Hate it, but understand it. For the life of me I cannot understand why they took out software compatability as they removed a great value to the machine that cost them nothing.
Unless, Sony is ready to launch a PS2 game download service, but still, they get the money either way if we buy it retail or download it.
I think your number 2 option is very valid. Sell what they have now rather than take an even bigger loss and pray the PS4 becomes talk dog. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Yoshi, in the same time frame as DVD, Blu-ray is already out pacing sales of DVD disks. Dark Knight just set a new record with 600,000 copies on day one. Does that reach DVD numbers, no. But 600,000 on day one means there is definitely a market.
Players were selling for under $200 on black Friday and are hovering around that point now. Which is why I stated above that the PS3 has lost that advantage.
Not sure about where you live, but all the Best Buys and similar stores have Blu-Ray sitting up front. At my local Wal-Mart, Blu-ray now has 2 full aisles of movies compared to DVD's four. Three months ago Blu-ray had one small rack.
It is catching on, especially as more people buy HDTV's.
Prices are no more expensive than when DVD's first came out and the PS2 was the cheapest player for $300. Flag this | Edit this post |

| The PS3 supports many more codecs and without a doubt makes streaming videos easier than the 360 with Vista. I know, I have done both. There is a reason why I claimed the PS3 is better, it is.
And when talking about a media hub, Blu-ray is more than fair game and easily trumps MS downloadable content.
But, I will easily concede to the 360 when it comes to streaming Netflix, that was a major victory for MS. Flag this | Edit this post |

| The PS3 brought a different coding structure compared to the 360 which developers had been getting comfortable with due to the 360's large head start. Games have been way too slow to come out, and for a long time were poor ports of 360 titles. There was no wow factor in the games that Sony had been promising.
The price vs. value in my opinion was stronger than the 360: built in wireless, HDMI (at the time), cheaply upgradeable storage, built in hardware backwards compatibility (at the time) and the big one, Blu-ray. For the money, the value was there, but as the Wii and arcade 360 point out, price is definitely a consideration. But if you did not need Blu-ray or wireless, that was a large premium to pay for features you wouldn't use.
And Blu-ray, their huge sticking point of value in a system, is now out the window as standalone players can be a good few hundred dollars cheaper for the low end models. So they lost that advantage now.
My PS3 makes a fantastic media center hub, but my 360 gets the most gaming, by a long shot. I simply cannot recommend the PS3 as a gaming machine to anyone, and that is taking into consideration the RROD fiasco. And that says so much about the 360 as a machine, if they can go through that, and still soundly beat out their competition, their competition is doing something very wrong. | After 8 years, Anarchy Online is still going, with a planned graphic overhaul itself, so to answer both yours and Yoshi's question, the servers will keep going and yes, people are still playing the game.
I am not, but I do play AO from time to time. $5 a month for an established game isn't bad. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I purchased the 20GB system when it was released and I still feel I am being punished by Microsoft because of the core system. Restrictions on XBox Arcade games and developers being unable to optimize games to make sure they play on Core systems was a slap in the face.
This is a good idea, and sure beats buying the components seperately. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I upgrade certain movies, action and adventure type stuff from time to time. Comedies and dramas I will buy new on Blu-ray, but have not felt compelled to upgrade. And I agree on price point being bad timing with a recession. I haven't encountered any Blu-ray movies with less features than DVD's. Maybe some when Blu-ray first launched, but they are just as feature rich, and many times moreso.
But I definitely disagree that the quality difference is not that great. I have my PS3 plugged into a $1500 Philips HDTV I bought from Wal-mart and the difference between DVD and Blu-ray is very noticeable. Granted, I actually played around with color, contrast and brightness to get a better picture, something many people do not do, but it is a free adjustment and not the platforms fault people do not do it. | Same here. 7900GT and Windows XP. Very little incentive at the moment to upgrade to Vista and DirectX 10 as I can still run every game I play just fine.
Waiting for Windows 7 before I do any hardware upgrades and completely update my system. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I do not mind paying monthly fees, but I 100% agree the games should be given away. Or, maybe $10 for a boxed copy since retailers would want to see something, and free to download online.
The more people they entice into their monthly fees, the better for them in the long run anyway.
Expansions should be free as well. Yes, they cost a lot for development, but that is what monthly fees are for. Plus, expansions bring new players in and keeps older players playing and paying.
MMO business model will continue to be tweaked over the next few years, I am sure of that. Flag this | Edit this post |
