| Not necessarily true. It makes a lot more financial sense to let someone else produce the chip, especially a partner company. IBM will mass produce the chip, thus lowering the cost back to Sony. This happens all the time.
I think both Microsoft and Sony like to keep classifying the Wii as a different gaming system so they can say they do not have to directly compete. If that were the case, why is MS making a Wii type controller and the PS3 quickly adding motion support to their Sixxis controllers? Point is, all three are gaming systems, Nintendo just chose to emphasize a different play experience and made the winning choice. It is correct to compare all three together as video game systems and apples to apples, and Wii is kicking butt. Flag this | Edit this post |

| It is not necessarily the tracking issue. Even without the MotionPlus, I still think the Wii controller tracks fairly well. My problem is many games/genres just do not lend itself well to the motion controller, IMO. My fear is Sony and MS see the Nintendo numbers and move in that direction next gen. Who knows, for a first time effort, Nintendo did well, so maybe next gen will perfect the controller and I will have nothing to worry about.
For now, it seems developers do not know how to properly use it. Forget the lack of system power, I think one of the major reasons for the dearth of good games on the Wii is the controller, not the system. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I love Nintendo's games (Mario, Zelda and the like) so there was that draw, but being disappointed in the N64 and the Gamecube, the Wii was not high on my to get list. When this generation came around, I bought a 360 on the day it came out (and suffered the consequences of my action with the RROD) and the 60GB PS3 after it was discontinued because I wanted the hardware backwards computability.
I only purchased a Wii after some friends brought theirs over. It is a fantastic party system and gets plenty of use when people are over, but other than that, it collects dust. Most of my non-gamer friends who wouldn't even think about picking up a 360 or PS2 controller are very excited to play the Wii, and a few of them have even purchased a system for themselves.
We did have to hunt it down, and went to 11 stores before getting lucky and just happened to walk into a Circuit City as they were unloading their shipment, so I found one on the first day.
I hate the controller. I hate that Microsoft is making a similar controller. I hate the idea that the next gen systems might try to copy Nintendo. The controller does not, and will not work for most games. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Soldier, having expensive hardware doesn't make you an elite gamer, it simply means you over paid.
Elite gamers play elite games regardless of system, which means the 360 has the PS3 beat. So, when it comes to gaming, just how is the PS3 a better GAMING machine? I have all three systems, and the PS3 is a great Blu-ray player, but the majority of my game purchases are for the 360. And when comparing games that came out on both systems, either they look and play better on the 360 or they are dead even. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I just want to understand the whole argument towards a game company that if they released good games, they wouldn't have to worry about pirates. Well, if the game is not good, why are people pirating it in the first place?
We hate your product, so we want it? Sounds retarded to me. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | To dismiss a great game because it has PS2 graphics is absolutely retarded. Why do you even play games when it is clear all you think about are graphics? Save yourself the money and just watch a Pixar movie. Flag this | Edit this post |

| You can uninstall it, however, they do not make it easy. What is worse though is uninstalling does not get rid of the entire program. I had to do some DOS editing to remove all the components of SecureROM in the past. Whether a newer version fixes that, I have no idea, but I am willing to bet it hasn't been fixed.
I am not against DRM. Unlimited installs on 5 PC's is more than enough and I do not feel like a criminal because they have it. If I did, even CD-Keys could be considered a knock against my credibility. My problem is the software they use to do it. SecureROM has become todays StarForce, with no real way to easily remove the software. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I have never had any problem with SATA cable connections being flimsy, even on $4 cables. I just find ones with the clips that lock it in place, problem solved. And SATA is so much easier to hide inside a case to improve air flow and aesthetics. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Even though current USB is tied to the south bridge, that can very well be part of the tech specifications to move it to the north bridge. Just a thought. And even if remains relegated to the south bridge, 5 GB a second is nothing to sneeze at. The increase in speed granted to USB hard drives alone would make an external HD a much more reasonable purchase as it is still hard to find boards with eSATA connections. | | This is not a new issue with the 360 and I can see it happening more and more as time goes on. Console or not, the DVD medium is showing it's age. Sony made some huge gambles with Blu-ray, and they have been hit hard because of them, but they also may have futureproofed themselves a lot better than Microsoft did. Of course, Blu-ray winning the format war puts Sony is a much better light than if it had lost. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Unfortunately, this is a stripped down version and is not almost identical. The number of zombies on screen is DRAMATICALLY reduced, that was the biggest part of the game, all the zombies. They also removed taking pictures, which is a real head scratcher because the point of the main character is that he is a photographer.
I will keep playing it on the 360, just sad they are making such a mediocre port. I agree above though, this would be great on the PC. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Microsoft isn't making profits because of the extra cost of the hard drive, that is ridiculous to even think that. They have sold systems, made cost improvements to the innards and so forth. The 360 has been out longer and has had more time to do it.
As far as costs go, here is an example how the 360 is more expensive and why the cost of their accessories is astronomical.
PS3 - 40GB $399.
Controller charge kit - Free (included)
Wireless adapter - Free (included)
320 GB HD - $100
Total - $499
360 - 20GB $299 (while supplies last, after, add an extra $50 to the cost)
Controller charge kit - $20
Wireless adapter - $100
120GB HD - $180
Total - $599
And that doesn't even mention the included Blu-ray in the PS3 or the higher cost, non core 360. Initial costs can be quite deceiving.
The point is, if Microsoft wouldn't be so stingy on their proprietary parts (HD, wireless adapter and so forth) I, and most other consumers would feel much better about upgrading their 360's for all the new content they are showing off. And lets be honest, there is a lot of cool new content. It just will require lots of hard drive space. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I do realize WoW used many pre-existing ideas, but to say it is no better than other MMO's is not true. WoW may not be the end all be all, in fact, I hope it isn't, but they continually make a solid MMO. Name alone doesn't keep ten million subscribers. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Glue a light saber key chain to a fork. Jam it into your head. You just had a Star Wars gaming experience greater than Star Wars Galaxies.
The bar is quite low, but even with a low standard in place, I am still worried it will be WoW with different textures as is almost all MMO's.
Still, Bioware makes great games, and if anyone can pull this off, it is them. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Microsoft still isn't making money. They turned two quarterly profits, but that doesn't take into account the one billion+ in repair costs and the years of losses on two consoles. Sony will definitely keep reeling from the PS3 for many years to come, that is if they ever leave the red, but at least they have PS2 making up a large difference in profits.
Sony made some (many) big mistakes, such as the Cell which I agree with completely, but making it more difficult for consumers by robbing them wouldn't help in the least.
The point is, Microsoft and Sony are rolling out a lot of new features that are HD intensive. This is great, but consumers have little in their ability to acquire the necessary hard drive space, either through size limitations or cost. The PS3 has a much easier and cheaper path, which could result in many more royalties from rentals and sales. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Now they just need a real hard drive option. 120GB will not be enough, and $180 for a 120GB is too much. Although still too much, I would actually purchase a 250GB HD for $180. I am still getting fleeced, but it is a much better value and would provide enough GB to make me want to install games and download movies.
Some good announcements though. I am looking forward to the update. Flag this | Edit this post |

| So you do not mind spending $90 on a 20GB MS HD or $180 for a 120GB when I can buy a 320GB HD for my PS3 for $100?
I have two, 20GB 360's and I refuse to spend the above money on bigger hard drives. I have however bought a bigger hard drive for my PS3. Flag this | Edit this post |
