| Yeah, personally I'll probably switch shortly after launch. I plan on building myself a new rig around that timeframe anyway, as my current PC is a little too loud for my tastes.
Eventually anyone that's a serious gamer is going to have to make the switch. The question is when? For some ppl, that may be on launch day, for others it may not be until DX10 hardware is less expensive, and/or when more DX10 games ship. I wouldn't be surprised if many of you for instance switch once Crysis ships. Flag this | Edit this post |

| egg: Yes, that is true too, I did go to 16xAF across the board, whereas the Core 2 article I didn't. Perhaps that would be another good poll question?
I did it to save myself some time, if I mixed in 8xAF and other settings in there the article would've taken even longer to publish. I figured since these were all high-end cards that I might as well crank up the AF. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Drivers, drivers, drivers!! Guys making comparisons between the Athlon 64 scores versus the Core 2 CPUs: keep in mind that we're using a different driver set, there also were patches released for a few of the games, so comparisons between the two #'s can't be made.
RE: Core 2 CPU scaling article: We'll consider doing it of course if the demand is there, but we've also got other articles in the pipeline as well. Flag this | Edit this post |

| In light of the emails I've received on G80 overclocking, I updated that page with the following text:
UPDATE: We've received quite a few emails asking how the overclocked GeForce 8800 GTS is able to match the stock GTX in performance, so we'll provide a few theories here. Most importantly, keep in mind that we're dealing with very early drivers, and we're still barely seeing the potential of the GeForce 8800 GTX. The bottom line is that the 8800 GTX has more performance headroom than the GTS, but perhaps we're not seeing that today due to its early drivers. Another possibility is that the games we're testing aren't demanding enough to really push the G80's new shader architecture, so once the GeForce 8800 GTS is clocked higher it's able to deliver performance comparable, if not slightly better than the stock 8800 GTS. | | No, it's correct. I think it's a driver issue as the game is brand new after all. NVIDIA probably just needs to optimize their driver a little more for Dark Messiah. We saw the same happen with BF2142 a little over a month ago if you recall... Flag this | Edit this post |

| Pretty disappointing to hear about guys blocking ads on a free website. Ourselves, and most of the other sites on the 'net are 100% dependant on ad revenue, you take away the ad revenue you take away the websites. It's as simple as that.
I haven't had a free weekend in 3 weeks, every weekend for the past month I've been testing something or writing an article on some new upcoming piece of hardware, not to mention all the giveaways we hold every year for our readers, last year we gave away an Xbox 360 Premium!
All we ask in return is that you load the ads and give us feedback on the articles so we can improve them. It's a shame to see that some can't be patient for 5 seconds for an ad to load... Flag this | Edit this post |

| Well, the next extension for OpenGL isn't final yet, so any article would be entirely speculative. Doing an article on DX10 is a little easier since the spec is finalized.
I do agree with your sentiment though, and it will be interesting to see what happens with OpenGL now that DX10 requires Vista. OGL has an opening here but it remains to be seen if they'll use this as an opportunity or not. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » DX10 is Vista only though Yes, games will continue to support XP for a few years more no doubt, but remember that DX10 is exclusive to Vista. Microsoft has no plans to migrate DX10 to WinXP.
There's probably no point in buying G80 or R600 if you plan on sticking with WinXP for the next 2-3 years... Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Yes, therein lies the problem. It looks like reformatting you'd be okay, but if you swap out motherboards for instance, Vista would see that as a new system and that would count as your transfer, even though you only changed 1 component. Flag this | Edit this post |

| We used to have a great relationship with Gainward, you can find reviews of some of their cards here on this site, but getting Gainward cards is tougher for us now that they've shut down all US operations, no cards are coming to our shores anymore. Their top marketing/PR guy is at EVGA Europe now too.
There are some AGP cards coming soon though, and I'm not talking about G80. When those cards come out, who knows, that may prompt NVIDIA to do something. We'll see... Flag this | Edit this post |

| Not even ATI/NVIDIA/Intel have provided guesstimates on what you're asking in your first sentence, and if anyone's got a vested interest in producing something like that, they do (i.e. selling chipsets).
3DMark 06 is obviously pretty forward-looking in terms of really pushing the graphics subsystem, and you saw the numbers we got there. Will UE3 push the PCIe interface more? It's possible that it will, but it's also possible that it won't. They're so busy finishing the game they may not even know. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Testing load times is going to be more of a test of the system memory rather than the PCIe interface. I did want to run tests with the 7600 GT, but an NDA bumped the amount of time I had for this particular article considerably down. You'll see when tomorrow's article goes up.
In a perfect world this test would have been run with both a X1900 XT 256MB and a X1900 XT 512MB, but then I wouldn't be able to use the Core 2 Extreme CPU (as no x16 PCIe mobos are available that are Core 2-compliant).
Also, 2560x1600 was tested in this article. It doesn't get any higher than that. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Well guys, imo, 3-10% is a "nice" improvement. It's certainly better than the 0% we've seen in previous tests don't you think? For a little perspective, a 200MHz increase in CPU speed typically buys you an additional 5-9% in performance.
And again, I don't think this necessarily translates to AGP. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the X1650 AGP and 7600 GT AGP for instance delivered identical performance to their PCIe-based cousins. Flag this | Edit this post |
