| Revival for OpenGL/OpenAL?
Just rushing through the article now - DX10 looks promising but it seems the reason for it is mainly the new driver model which will improve stability and also improve performance , not necessarily improve content (though improved performance could mean added content).
I asked a question on the OpenGL forums if you could get DX10-graphics on XP under OpenGL on DX10-hardware. Seems it could be possible with new drivers and new extensions to OpenGL (why not?):

Another overlooked question is the sound, which is almost as important in games as the graphics. No DirectX sound hardware layer for older games that don't use OpenAL in Vista, (which means byebye to the use of X-Fi acceleration in
F.E.A.R. but not Battlefield 2142, as I understand it):

I hope we'll see OpenGL/OpenAL-games like Quake 4 and Prey, on XP as well as other platforms, competing contentwise with DX10/Vista-games.
Maybe the subject of an article? With this focus on Microsoft's DX 10 (which locks the users to Vista), it would be interesting to get an in-depth report on the future of OpenGL and OpenAL and their possibilities, just to balance things a little.

| I agree, great review! I've been searching for this kind of information. Although I actually suspected the results, as I read a small article (not as thorough as this one) some while ago testing X1900XT with HDR+AA, with the same results; it's feasible.
For me it's about the credibility of an article and a site, about the facts. How can some sites just refer to that it's not playable with SM 3.0 HDR+AA and ignore it, without even testing? They may like HDR or not, granted that if it's not used correctly it can look like s**t, reviewers should still be impartial and present the facts. Proven: you actually have the option to choose HDR+AA if you think it is important, at least on X1900GT and up, and, depending on the application, maybe even on X1800GTO.
So, once again, great job!! :-)
