| It IS banned in UK and Ireland (that's what the article says). And that's wrong cos any adult person should be able to choose for him-/herself.
And it's wrong to compare obesity to underaged gaming. Your kids either should or should not play certain games. For food it's not that simple; you can eat two of these and one of that, but if you eat this you can't have any of those. Get it?
Seriously, gaming is broading its audiences constantly (Wiis in elderly homes) and these people growing up gaming (like myself) are still gaming at 30 yo and will likely keep gaming for life. Gaming has grown to all audiences from childs play...
In my mind games should be treated just like movies and I dont see how interacting with the game made it any worse. Like someone pointed out, you are still pressing buttons and twisting thumbsticks. And waving a wiimote in the air isn't going to make it much more real. Or mayby take2 has a new MH2 controller coming out; a real size dummy with a poke, strangle and grabass detection.. They allready have these in the porno movies industy.. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Technical misses... How can you suggest M$ would run their Live arcade on Macromedia's Flash?? No way.
And there's supposed to be games like double agent that actually support 1080i, which is only some 10% more pixels than 720p.. 1080p isn't happening on either platform, resistance had to go 720p thanks to RAM limitations allready. That's a first gen game...
A 7900GS might be a fair comparison, looking at RAM bandwidth etc. 360 runs games at 720p and I guess 7900GS would settle for 1280x1024 for the most time. Thanks to the tiling 360 gets free 4xAA tough (where applicaple, UE3 can't use it thanks to it's "special" engine tech).
Thanks to the fixed hardware, consoles will allways reap better graphics from any set of hardware vs. PC where devs have to make decisions about target hardware and really just stick to the generic stuff to avoid incompatibility. Except that most devs are going for multiplatform games, which basically does the same for consoles. No excentric shaders or special fx cos it has to port the other platform easy and fast.
oh yeah, and the DVD quality might not be exceptional, but it's no worse than your average low-end player, like my 100$ Sony. Atleast the cabling (via component) is better than the light SCART with the Sony player... Flag this | Edit this post |

| 8k x 8k textures combined with the video ram virtualization probably does produce some cool stuff. And Carmack lobbying this is a no brainer, his latest tech is called "MegaTexture" ;) Now it might not make for sharper looking monsters but think about outdoor landscapes etc. This tech can now sample directly from huge maps and sattellite photography...
On another note, I dont see how DX9 could produce "everything" DX10 does when there's no support for the new geometry shader. Felt like a bit of down playing from Tim.. I mean this geometry shader could do some cool stuff, that would be only available to DX9 via software emulation.
I do agree that the drop for DX9 support is still years away. And that DX10 will be mostly about better performance, for the start atleast. It remains to be seen what the geometry shader can do for real... Flag this | Edit this post |

| yeah, 360 runs proprietary graphics layer, not "DX9" or "DX10". Some features are beyond DX10 while some DX10 features are missing, so DX10 obviously isn't going to run straight off. With some effort, crysis would certainly run on 360. I'm not sure how things are with PS3, except that they run proprietary layer (Based on OpenGL and CG) as well; by Nvidia.
Seems like this news is taken out ot context somewhat...
Oh, and PC might be "better" with it's constant updates and new versions. But the downside to this is that none of the versions get utilized fully, devs need to move to new versions rather than try and master the current version. Just look at early PS2 games vs. current PS2 games. DX9 offers a lot, and I believe we haven't seen even nearly everything that could be done... Flag this | Edit this post |

| My only concern is that the next PGR will ship with 12 less cars and "the rest" will be available on live for additional costs. While it's great that games can be kept fresh thisway, it's a dimishing line where original game content ends and added value begins.
Should these cars not have been on the disc at the first place? Mayby they had these cars done at the release but someone suggested: "Hey, lets wait out and sell these for hard $$ on live".
And just how will those new cars work for online gaming? Will they be unusable or will others have D/L them too, just not be able to drive them?
While this sounds like a nice idea, GREED I fear, will simply spoil it... There's bound to be game releases with poor value and great live downloads... Flag this | Edit this post |
