| Thx for the review and once again including so many cards for comparison.
I did want to ask why you have the 7900GS in the Oblivion HDR+FSAA chart this time around since it doesn't support both at once and you usually leave it out. Was it HDR/no fsaa or FSAA/Bloom you used for testing that one?
Also, SLI results are much appreciated. Will you have 8800GT SLI in with it too? Flag this | Edit this post |

| Thx for the review; it's nice to see performance tests for BF2142. It's good to again see very playable framerates in this BF for the $200+ cards.
Even though it's probably a bug that will be fixed before retail release, I wonder if the texture flashing (shimmering) you saw would go away when turning off the driver default optimizations.
Another note, from reviews I have read, the 256MB X1900XT seems to always perform a little under the 512MB version (in non cpu limited games). One review mentioned that different RAM chips are used and the 256MB version has relaxed memory timings which could effect the small cross the board performance drop between the two. I'd be curious how a 256MB X1800XT would do against a 512MB X1800XT in comparison.
Thx again, looking forward to your future BF2142 testing. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | That's true to some extent for single GPU's, but Brandon included Crossfire testing as well. As you can see with dual GPU's Core 2 was able to pull away from FX-62 even at high res and eye candy. Anyone looking to go dual high end GPU's or even NV & ATI's next G80/R600, is going to want to look into Core 2. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I agree that screenies would have been very helpful. I hope I am wrong, but I have a strong hunch fsaa was not working in the Farcry testing. I have only been able to get 2xaa working with HDR and patch 1.4 (edit: old leaked beta 1.4 not the official 1.4 due soon. Maybe Brandon has the official 1.4 patch already?) and the performance hit is huge on my X1800XT compared to the 2% Brandon saw. More likely I feel that the 2% hit came from enabling 8XAF, and FSAA was not working. I sent Brandon a messege about this a couple days ago asking him to look into whether indeed AA was working, but didn't receive an answer yet. I just think it's too important to drop the subject without confirmation and screenshots that 4xaa was working with HDR.
I encourage any X1800XT and X1900XT(X) owners to give it a shot for themselves. Look at just HDR. Then compare screenies and framerates to 2Xaa + HDR and from what I have seen 2xaa works and it's a noticable drop in fps. Then try 4xaa + HDR and see if you get it to work or if you are back to 0xaa framerates and jaggies.
Anyway, hopefully Brandon can get a chance to look into it himself. Flag this | Edit this post |
