| I guess I have the right hardware (barring my nVidia 7900GT). I have pushed my Vista Ultimate x64 system doing video encoding and gaming. It's been very solid. The only problem is the video drivers (158.18).
I've contemplated going back to XP, but as you said, eventually (if gaming) you will have to move to Vista. To that end, I'm sticking it out.
Good article, I like the 'personal' angle on the writing. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Wow, sad this is needed. I've been spoiled my entire career by working for small companies that don't care. We are adults, so as long as we get our shit done, I can surf/download pretty much anything. We don't have an IT departement, so that helps too. :-) Flag this | Edit this post |

| » E6600.. my 'sleeping beast'... I have yet to OC my E6600. I have Corsair XMS2 DDR2800 Cas 4 Ram & an Asus P5B Deluxe WIFI mobo.. I am prolly missing out on a nice boost in performance. Just don't see a need atm. Running Vista Ultimate x64 and a few games without any probs. As mentioned in the article, the E6600 is a the proc to get if you are serious about setting up a good rig. | | I am just pissed at the lack of E6600's available. Need an E6300/E6400, no probs; just swing by Fry's and pick one up. It's frustrating; just keep on waiting and waiting. Man if C2D didn't offer such great performance, I'd cancel my $350 E6600 (Tankguys.biz) and go AM2. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Nice article, liked the 'low res' benchmarks. I've got the E6600 on pre-order and can't wait; it may not be the best price/performance option, but it appears to be the best overclocker from what I've seen. As to not losing any performance going from 4MB to 2MB cache, that is true but for some of us, the extra cache may prove handy in other applications in the future. I don't upgrade processors as fast as I do video cards, so I am willing to pay the extra $ for the extra cache. Flag this | Edit this post |
