| | But MS' press event was first so how did they know that Nintendo or Sony "had nothing big"? On the whole I thought E3 was unimpressive this year. I just don't think that anyone really caused a buzz. Having said that I *am* very glad that the focus this year _seemed_ to be more on what is coming in the next few months rather than the next few years as all of the past E3's have been. | | Other than the copy protection point I fail to see how any of your other points address pc gaming specifically as opposed to electronic gaming in general. Do ads only appear on the pc (because if they do I'd like you to tell that to my copy of Burnout)? Is EA only buying up pc dev shops? Are the packets used by consoles smaller than those on pcs? What specific titles on the consoles are not "same old 'crap' gameplay" (I'd buy that argument for the Wii alone, but not the X360/PS3)? Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Where does this notion that developers get a cut of the ads that get put in their games come from? I've read about publishers signing contracts with in-game ad people, but I have yet to read anything concrete about how that gives the person coding the game any extra money. | | I agree. Their master servers were screwed up for over a week. I wasn't able to get into an online game for about a week and then magically it just worked (and I did nothing different on my end). Couple that with the less than half-###ed implementation of invert mouse in the game (the turrets and vehicles are non-inverted and no option to change it, and the ini file edits on the forums didn't help either). There are already lots of unhappy campers on their forum so releasing a demo in that state would cause a lot of people to not want to buy the buy the game at all. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | That's so nice of the execs to give themselves a raise and a year and a half package while only giving the people who actually do the work a half a year and nothing extra. At least if you work for Take 2 you know exactly what your boss thinks of you right now. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Not that it really matters to me, but with a title like this I wonder if it is months out or years out? If I ran EA I would have the game done and then start the hype machine on this one. If it is still being worked on I would think there's going to be a sweet spot where if you market for too long it goes from "another sims?" to "oh that's kinda interesting" and then back to "another sims?" | | Yeah there are some bugs to be worked out of Frontlines. The invert mouse bug is the most annoying to me. I have yet to play online. I just tried the server browser and it took forever to bring up a list of games and I could not join any of them. Right now I'm going to assume the problem is on my end though because I have not done anything with my router firewall and I'm sure that I need to unblock some ports and I'll be online just fine. | | You are right piracy has nothing to do with how good a game is or how bad it is. POS games get pirated just like good ones do. Some POS games sell better than good ones do, so what is your point? It doesn't matter whether or not the game is a great game or a POS game why does a pirate have a right to play that game either way? Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Interesting. I played a MP game for about 12 hours right after it came out with no crashes and no patch. A friend and I took a day and played all we could that day. We did not have a single problem. Of course we both bought the game so that helps. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | A couple days after WB went Blu I went and picked up a PS3. I do not have a 360 because I think not requiring a hdd was a step backward. I guess I'm the one person out there that doesn't agree with MS's vision of a console. I saw value in a Blu-ray player that just so happens to play games too. My "dedicated" gaming console (that conforms to MS's vision) is my Wii. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Keep in mind that they are owned by Via and therefore they are in Via's mini/nano-ITX boards. Thus they are filling the needs of that segment. They are putting decent (according to what they say) gfx processing power into the low-power space that Via is in. They should be doing well enough there and if they are able to make any in-roads into nVidia/ATi OEM territory then that's probably just cake for them. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | That's awesome. I have not had the chance to play too much of this game, but what I have played I have really enjoyed. For an "unknown" that is some good sales numbers and I am glad they sold so many. They deserve to sell 2-3 times that. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Maybe I am taking this out of context, but if you are talking to a journalist then why would you talk to them off the record? I can understand if they interview you and you go out for a beer afterward. I would figure that would be off the record. But I just cannot see why you would ever say during an interview something like: We don't have a date, but between you and me it'll be out at the end of the year. You also have to think the only thing that is going to be news as far as DNF goes is the date. Does anyone *really* want to know anything about it other than when they can see it on a store shelf (or is that just me)? Flag this | Edit this post |

| Something I've been thinking about for the past week or so is that WoW is hurting PC gaming more than consoles are. I tried looking up sales numbers for the past several years but could not find any. Off the top of my head WoW and the WoW-xp sold around 3M copies to take the 1 and 2 pc sales spot. Sims titles took 3 and 4 with about 1M. The 5 spot was taken by CoD4 with 383,000 units sold. Activision claims that CoD4 was the best selling game of 2007 with 7M units sold. So the best selling game of the year sold 1/10 of the number of units on the PC platform as the best selling game on the PC platform.
I have several friends that have bought less than 5 pc games since WoW came out (excluding WoW and the WoW-xp). These friends probably bought at least 5 games a year before they started playing WoW. These are PC gamers at heart too. They have consoles and they buy games for their consoles, but now when they sit down to play a game that they have to devote a block of time to they are playing WoW instead of some other PC game. If they don't have a block of time that they can commit to a game then they play on their consoles. Flag this | Edit this post |
