| » Drivers Improve Crysis OK, after Crytek's unimpressive Crysis patch improved my game by 1 frame per second, I was skeptical about Nvidia's drivers.
Well I was wrong. On the High setting, with Vista-32 bit, 1366x768 res, no AA, Athlon 64 X2 6000, 4 GB RAM, and SLI'd Geforce 8800 GTS's (640 MB each), I went from 17 fps to 22 fps. Not a bad increase.
Now, Nvidia and Crytek...listen up!!! There is still plenty room for improvement...so don't fall asleep at the wheel on us! Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Woops First of all, I flagged the above comment by accident, so my apologies. My mouse was moving a little quickly.
I'm thinking that my SLI setup is NOT working correctly for Crysis.
I've downloaded and installed the new Nvidia drivers (169.28) so I'll check those out as well.
No, I'm not running multiple-display, and I even try and kill most apps that are running.
The only explanation is that they still don't have the SLI code optimized for this game.
More to follow. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Resolution Sorry, I forgot to post the resolution.
I'm using a 1080i LCD TV, so my resolution is set at 1360 x 768, no AA.
I'm not sure if I have the 64-bit included in my Vista software or not, but like you said, I'm not wanting to reconfigure my system. Besides, I'm thinking that more people using Vista are using 32-bit. I could be wrong, but everyone I talk to have not jumped to the 64-bit system. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Disappointing Benchmarks OK, I ran the benchmarks BEFORE and AFTER the patch. Once again, here are my system specs:
Windows Vista-32 Bit DX10
Athlon 64 X2 6000
4 GB Corsair XMS Dual Channel Memory
Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe MB
Two 8800 GTS's (640 flavor) in SLI
I ran the GPU benchmark, and all numbers are taken from Loop #3 and all fps are the average.
BEFORE PATCH:
Medium Setting: Length-85.05 seconds, 23.52 fps
High Setting: Length-118.76 seconds, 16.84 fps
V-High Setting: Length-269.58, 7.42 fps
AFTER PATCH:
Medium Setting: 80.79 seconds, 24.75 fps
High Setting: 112.40 seconds, 17.25 fps
V-High Setting: 237.97, 8.40 fps
As you can clearly see, this 140 MB Patch that took about 20-25 minutes to install, improved my game performance by an average of ONE FRAME PER SECOND.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that those that posted here did not run tests, and just claim to have improved performance, because they want to believe it.
In actuality, it improved it 1 fps, which to me (and probably many others) is not worth the effort.
Perhaps Crytek should continue to concentrate on improving the performance of the game, and not worry about things like "Reduced grenade explosion radius" and "F12 screenshot working in restricted mode." I can care less about that if I'm looking at a dang slideshow.
I like the idea that Crytek made a game with some nice eye candy. I don't like the idea that the hardware needed to run it isn't available to the average consumer yet.
Wasted was all the money I spent on getting my system "ready for Crysis." I bought two GTS's to run in SLI. I bought extra memory. I bought a new MB and made sure I have a CPU that was in the upper echelons of CPU's. For what?!
Time to re-shelve Crysis, and time for Crytek to get back to working on patch #2 so I can play their dang game that I paid $50 for.
UT3 looks almost as good, and my SLI rig is giving me 60 fps. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I'm interested in finding out if they fixed the SLI issue (SLI did NOTHING to improve framerates prior to the patch).
Also, I have on the way a Geforce 8800 GT-Superclocked card from EVGA. I'm going to drop that one in my son's computer (he better appreciate his dear old dad), and compare the fps to my SLI'd 8800 GTS's and see. The dual cards "should" be faster, providing the patch allows the game to make use of the SLI configuration.
Work is going by so dang slow today...I need to get home and install the patch and play finally. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » 14 FPS?!? Oh my! Well, I for one would like to play at more than 14 FPS!!! I've owned Crysis since its release, however after playing 5 minutes of it, I shelved it and decided to wait for the patch. I've downloaded it, but haven't installed it. I was not satisifed with the FPS on HIGH settings, and my system is no slouch:
AMD Dual Core 6000
Asus M2N-SLI MB
4 GB Corsair XMS
2 X GeForce 8800 GTS-640's in SLI
Well, I hope this puppy was worth the wait (and worth the purchase of this game). I will install tonight.
The servers were pretty full for this download. I'd like to see more comments on any performance increases. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Idiocracy I think there is a general overall sense of incompetence everywhere you look in the computer tech world. The last three times I've ordered a new MB, I ALWAYS got a bad one and had to RMA it. The last time, I didn't get a good one until the third one was shipped to me.
I think technology has surpassed human intelligence to the point where idiots are in key positions, and the blind are leading the blind. Anyone seen the movie "Idiocracy"? I fear it's where we're headed.
What happened to all the computer geeks out there? Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Best Value? Best value for consumers? I harldy think that a DVD player for $1,000 is a value. How do we go from a standard DVD player for $100 (for a decent one) to $1,000 for a HD DVD player? That is a HUGE mark up. I was expecting to shell out maybe $4-5 hundred, but there is no way I'm paying a grand for HD movies. While there will be some folks out there that have cash they don't know what to do with, but the average Joe (like me) does not. Let's get back to reality here, and drop those prices so the norm of society can enjoy HD! Flag this | Edit this post |
