| Origin will only sell EA games, steam sells everyone's games - that's what I meant by proprietary.
In addition steam makes my life easy - I have 1 directory on my hd, 1 login, 1 game update system, 1 thing to move when I switch pc (it even keeps all my saves and keybinds!), 1 friends list, 1 place to buy stuff and check for sales. I also have a reasonable amount of trust that they aren't about to s**w me as they have shown they are trust worthy over many years.
Origin and EA I don't trust as far as I could throw them. I equally don't think Origin will work as well as steam, and I don't want to have to turn all those 1's above to 2's 3's or more. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Quite simply they will loose a lot of sales. I pretty well only buy on steam. I have no interest in one companies dodgy proprietary games download service.
Generally I buy the odd triple AAA rated t-itle when it comes out, and lots of games in steam sales. For non-steam if I don't buy the game on release (for example I may buy the DVD of BF3) then I will never buy it - I won't even realise it exists as it'll never be in a steam sale. | Na, more is better. ut2004 had lots of difficulty levels so you could pick one that exactly suited you instead of having one that's too easy and one that's too hard.
I agree with articles points about how you increase difficulty - those that just double enemy hit points and damage are bad. What we want is the enemy to get better in the same way a human does, or at least in a way that wouldn't be considered a cheat if a human did it. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Cost PS3: $300ish
Camera: $40
Each person: $80
So 2 people playing together = $500,
4 people = $660
Too much imo, particularly considering an xbox with the more impressive kinect is as little as $300, and that allows 4 people to play. Flag this | Edit this post |

| As it's a bonus for work already done they can't really say "you can have it in 3 years dependent on future work".
So either:
-the bonus will be given out soonish, in which case you take the bonus then leave.
or
-it's not going to be given out for years (dependent on Activision winning case or something silly like that) in which case not worth hanging around for, leave now. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I remember how bad BF2 was when it first came out - the grief just trying to rebind my keys was immense. I have to admit when I got this and was actually able to rebind my keys and pick my native screen resolution without having to resort to hacking config files I was relieved.
That said being better then one of the most buggy releases of all time isn't saying much. At least this game is uber popular so fixing it will be a priority. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I buy my PC games via steam including 16Gig downloads like dragon age. For games it's just easier.
However for films a full blu ray is a different prospect - it's more like 30gig, and unlike the game I am only renting it, watching it once and deleting it. Hence I wouldn't download 30 gig movies yet, and I wouldn't download lower quality HD (which is what xbox has) - better to just rent the bluray.
MS didn't win due to downloads they won due to the xbox being cheap, xbox live working well, and momentum (once you get in front you stay in front as we all buy the same consoles our friends have to play with them). Flag this | Edit this post |

| "In the theater there's nothing between you and the experience, but as you have other people in the room and other people walking by, well, it's not the same experience."
lol - so we can take that as saying either "in a theatre there's not other people in the room" - perhaps he's rich enough to demand that but last time I went there were a lot of people in the room with me, I find there are significantly less in my living room in fact.
Perhaps he meant "in a room there are lots of people walking in front of you". Well when I watch TV there isn't a constant stream of people walking in front of me, it's my living room, not a train station.

| | Can't see how you can recommend xfire 5870's. The only reason to get that much graphics grunt is eye infinity, and they don't work with eye infinity. A 5970 is the only dual gpu card that does eye infinity hence has to be the recommendation. Flag this | Edit this post |

| If the next gen consoles support it then games made for them will support it and then it will be big.
2014 is a few years off yet - by then we'll all have 3D capable 120hz+ monitors, and I suspect we'll all be buying new tv's to watch 3d TV and bluray. For those that haven't then they can just fall back to using red/green glasses which will work fine on existing 60hz sets. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Who even goes into a store to buy a game these days? Etailers are generally cheaper and easier - no need to drive to the store, games cost less. Even for new releases they generally deliver before the release date.
Assuming your internet connection is up to it steam is even easier again - no cd checks, no dodgy cd errors, no patching worries, very easy to move game around between machine's/hd's. If you wait for the special offers it's pretty cheap too. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Some of those DX9 cards run new games without difficulty and use PCI-E so work in any modern motherboard.
As vista failed a number of users have stayed with XP a long time and are now looking to go straight to 7. Ati doesn't support them.
It's like nvidia refusing to support 7 series graphics cards which still have plenty of grunt (being as the 360 effectively has a 7 series card in it). Flag this | Edit this post |

| » T itle is a bit miss-leading He doesn't say DX11 won't drive sales - he just says it won't be the only reason, just one of a number.
He is right at the moment - you don't *need* a DX11 card today as there are no DX11 games. When a proper DX11 game comes out that you want to play then you will need a DX11 card and then it will be a defining reason to buy one. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | redman jones - the 4870 had GDDR5, a 256bit bus and 800 shaders. This has 1600 shaders, but the same 256bit GDDR5 albeit at a slightly higher clock. Hence if we assume that the 4870 required the bandwidth it had then in comparison the 5870 is going to be memory starved. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Natal is a step beyond a Wii mote. Even if you had a Wii then chances are you'd still get Natal for your xbox. It's obviously going to be big - but I agree because it's only for Xbox and only some xboxes will have it then the games market for it is much smaller.
I agree PS3 version really is just a Wii mote for the PS. Being as many of those who want a Wii style interface will already own a Wii then buying one for your PS3 is going to be a much harder sale as it doesn't really add much, so many might not bother, particularly as it's always going to be the Wii that has the big Wii-mote style games library. | For the basic game it's a console port - we already know how it will run. If it doesn't run at max settings minus AA on something like an 8800GT at 16*10, and at silly resolutions on anything newer I'd be very surprised.
More interested in the 3D vision angle - how well does it work? The graphics effectively need to render at twice the speed (alternate frames for each eye) so how fast a card do you need to run it?
While you are at it you could say if playing the game with a 120hz monitor makes a real difference over playing it on a 60hz one (i.e not using 3D vision)? Is the monitor alone a good upgrade for this game? Flag this | Edit this post |

| Another lame article. They take North American retail sales (i.e no steam, pay per month, etc) vs all console sales (including DS I presume). I don't know why they can't break the consoles down to show sales for each one, and include the full PC gaming sales (i.e. including steam, pay per month like WoW, etc).
They then back that up with a load of mostly unfounded reasons.
/me remembers when PC gaming was doomed because the PS2 was better then any PC could ever be, then it was the PS3/360, ...
In the mean time WoW pulls in more punters then anything else on the planet, and Steam revolutionised the way most people buy their games. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Obviously bogus The 3D option that works (nvidia vision) requires a screen that updates at 120hz. While a number of TV's do use 100hz+ technology they can still only accept updates (i.e. picture changes) at 60hz. This is a limit of the bandwidth of HDMI which can only manage 60hz for a 1080p TV.
Hence we are a long way off 120hz TV's. What will probably happen is that in 2010 MS will produce a 360 s.lim (same spec. but using 45nm cpu/gpu) that comes bundled with NATAL. They will then use that to try and nick a bit of nintendo's family friendly market, which considering their console has both superior hardware (360 > Wii), a superior controller (Natal > Wii mote), and is cheap to make (integrated 45nm gpu+cpu=more cost savings) should be quite possible.
EDIT: why do I get #'s when I write s l i m(i.e. slim), is that a swear word? Is someone at firingsquad on a failed diet? Flag this | Edit this post |
