| He definitely would have an advantage. How much of one depends on the connections involved. Granted, it's not as bad as it could have been in the old days, but still, why take away choice from the player?
And I agree about the dedicated servers...if I can't play with actual friends, then a server where I'm used to the other players is the next best thing. Developer servers are good for casual multiplayer gaming, but for people who like to stick to a game, dedicated servers are a lot more attractive of an option. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Fair point, but still, you have to figure most of the stuff they're taking out was already there in the first place. It's not they're going out of their way to keep us happy, I'm willing to bet they already have the infrastructure and game logic in there from the first Modern Warfare. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Screw this. I don't care if the PC is the less profitable platform, they could at least act like they care. So far, all I'm getting from IW is that they're arrogant and expect PC gamers to shut up about all this because it's Call of Duty. As a result it feels like whenever we complain we get the proverbial middle finger and are basically told to shove off. I mean, the changes themselves aren't all that big of a deal; I could deal with them without too much of a problem, though they still might be annoying. It's their attitude. | | I don't see this happening. In addition to ZeniMax not having the money, Valve prizes its independence. Also you gotta figure they're in a good enough financial position to not need it anyway considering how well their games sell, especially when you factor in Steam. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Eh, yeah I'd like to see BC too and they could probably implement it fairly easily, but isn't this making mountains out of molehills? I mean, from my own experience I believe the 80-90 percent number. It'd be nice icing on the cake but that's all it would be. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Please tell me that was sarcasm. You seriously think the rise of costs are only to do with increased salaries and advertising? Are you that brain dead? Have you seriously not paid a single shred of attention to the evolution of games? Have you seriously not given a single thought towards what goes into making games? Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Movies have gone up in price due to inflation, along with production costs. Video games have not really gone up at all in price despite inflation and rising production costs. There's a real difference between the two industries. I'm not sure what you mean exactly about "maintaining value" within the movie industry. Prices have gone up with the content remaining about the same quantity-wise. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Even still, I would agree that the principle would still apply. If you post an idea in a public forum, you have no right to complain if someone else uses it, you made the choice to allow it by posting it so.
And if they're not idiots, then they're sure as hell misguided. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I would say a game closer to finish but never release would be even worse, because then you got the hopes up of gamers. At least when it dies at the very beginning, more than likely you didn't fuck with gamers looking forward to it, because it was too early for them to look forward to it anyway. | Sorry I'm a bit late getting back to the party, but what I'm referring to are 5 campaigns versus 4 in the original, which according to hands on previews so far are also longer individually (which granted may not hold up, but I see no reason to think why they wouldn't be at least as long). Plus, all five will support Single Player, Co-op, Versus, and Survival all out of the box, plus all five will support out of the box a new multiplayer mode. Not to mention all the DLC that will undoubtedly come from it in the future.
Granted this isn't an innovative original sequel the way Half-Life 2 or Team Fortress 2 was, but to say that it's nothing more than an expansion is just ridiculous. And while much of this is still speculation, like Labotomizer said, given their track record there's pretty much every reason in the world to give Valve the benefit of the doubt.
