| To be fair, including a brand new game and a relatively brand new game in a series-wide compilation would make thing pretty damn expensive, either for us or at least for EA (though I could care less about the latter, in terms of them losing their money).
Hey, maybe this time they'll take the time and effort to make it more than a lazily thrown together set of ten year old games left in their original state. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Well, you could argue that it would let people see what Master Chief and his MJOLNIR armor would look like in real. Given that he's a more fantastical character than Lara Croft and Max Payne might also play into people wanting to see a semi-realistic model of him more than those two. | | Back up there. I was just talking about console shooters in general. You know, Playstation versus Xbox, which is supposed to be better for shooters...right? I'm just saying that the Playstation has generally been considered lacking in the way of quality FPS software, and considering this is being made by the people behind GoldenEye 64 and TimeSplitters, this is could be a step in the opposite direction--a good thing for Sony. | I agree with you, but it still is good for Sony and their hardcore faithful because it's an exclusive for the PS3 in a genre the Playstation has traditionally been weak in. And like it or not, exclusives will be a big factor in this console war. And the less hardcore gamers who like FPS games might pay more attention to the PS3 now, since the Xbox has been traditionally the platform to go to for shooters.
But I that's not to say I disagree with you, because I absolutely do agree. Unfortunately, console manufacturers won't get over themselves any time soon, so it's going to stay this way. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Sorry to bring this up again, but I think you forget the system-selling power that MGS4 has. Fans are fanatical about this game, to the extent where they WILL buy a PS3 just to play it.
Not to mention that Ratchet & Clank Future and Uncharted are coming this fall, and those games (or developers, since Uncharted is a new franchise but its developer Naughty Dog carries a lot of weight in Playstation circles) also have a very large and very loyal following of Playstation fans that would also be willing to buy the system just to play these games (I've talked to many such people on forums and in person), and I'm willing to bet that most of these people (certainly the ones I've spoken with) haven't already purchased a PS3.
I think that Sony will do better with the PS3 this year than you give them credit for, though ultimately I don't disagree with your assessment that Microsoft will still beat them out this year (forget BioShock and Mass Effect, the juggernaut that is Halo 3 will pretty much single-handedly accomplish that).
(On a side note, since you say you have a PS3 but don't own any games, go ahead and try Resistance. Its not the system-seller that Sony and Insomniac would've like it to have been, but it is a good game and would give you something to do with your PS3.)
As for the Xbox 360 price cuts, I too would've liked to see the Elite and Premium dropped a little lower but I think Microsoft will be just fine there. I really think they should just cut the Core completely (like Sony did with the 20GB PS3 model) if they're not going to try to make it a direct competitor with the Wii. Flag this | Edit this post |

| That's my big problem. I don't actually mind the thinking behind these laws--I don't think it's exactly a bad thing that violent and sexually explicit games are being kept out of children's hands--but it's the implementation that I have trouble with, mainly that, like you said, it's just video games that are being singled out here. If you're going to do this, then do it across all mediums of entertainment and media, not just video games.
Also, laws like these need to be clear when it comes to defining what is a violent game and what isn't, so that politicians and lawyers with a vendetta against video games (namely You Know Who) can't twist it to fit their agenda. And obviously, common sense needs to be exercised, so that more games than necessary won't fall under this. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I think it'd be a little easier to simply cut the Core, bring the Premium down to the Core price point you suggested, and the Elite down to the Premium price point you suggested. (Maybe rename them as well?) Seems easier to me to do, accomplishes basically the same, and allows more functionality and features in the "new" versions.
Overall a good rant and I agree with a lot of the points you made, especially on the Wii. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | The lower price point is part of the reason for the Wii's success, but it can't be it. After all, if it was just a matter of price, the Game Cube would have outsold the PS2 and Xbox, but look what happened there. No, a reason just as big is people are getting pulled onto the motion sensitivity bandwagon. Flag this | Edit this post |
