| | It still seem too perverse to pay almost the price of a PS3 for an O.S. Why should it use all the available ram. It is just an O.S. people, it is supposed to be perform using minimum resources and leave the rest of the computing power for applications. Why should I care if I can cascade windows at a 45 degree angle, the reason I need an OS is not to rotate windows or stare at the pretty backgrounds. I'll try to hold out until a $3 vista arrives :) Flag this | Edit this post |

| | They're offering at least 10 different flavors and 5 different purchasing options with infinitesimal differences. Why would you support a company which sells its products by obscuring the functionality they offer? I don't understand why I should pay 300-400 USD for an O.S. One of the first things a lot of people do when installing an O.S. is to turn off all eye candy to improve performance. if they would offer a no-frills version without the bloatware I would gladly pay for that. | Most people don't know if they're watching HD broadcasting on their HDTV, so if the graphics are acceptable (i.e. not stick men) very few people will notice. Just to give an example, my thesis was on HD broadcasting. I made a poll to see how many people had HDTVs and a very common mistake was to mix 16:9 (widescreen) TVs with HDTVs even though I specifically asked people to check "HDTV" logo on their sets.
I believe the most relevant question will be if Nintendo can keeep up the demand and interest in Wii? It is the first time in my life I have paid for a console and the only way to make me, a 32 year old who hasn't held a joystick in his hands for 15 years, to keep happy (=buy more games) would be to offer immersive games with real plots, more interaction, etc., I am not sure only HD graphics (which existed for PCs for a decade now and look at the decline in sales) would ensure sales for PS3 and Xbox 360. So far Nintendo went with a blue ocean strategy, if they are dominate the market truely then they also need content that is bold and groundbreaking (sorry for the long post). | | I heard that Sony will skip PS3 for Europe and deliver the PS4 in a couple years. It is time for European electronics giants like Philips, Nokia or Siemens to launch a Europe-centric counter product against the Japs and the Yanks. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Don't know if it necessary. I believe Apple's iPod become really popular after a couple of years after launch, during 3rd generation. I don't agree with MS philosophy (be a quick follower/imitator) but if one throws enough money at a product I assume it will have a large market share one day. My prediction is that they will have around 20% of the player market in 3 years. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I think Sony is about to shoot itself in the foot in Europe. When PS2 came out they had no true competition and they seem be ignoring this fact. Even a few thousand PS3s as a symbolic gesture of their dedication to the European market would have been a good move to keep enthusiasm up. It is the first time I'm going to spend money on a console and it'll be a Wii just because it looks interesting, affordable AND it will be available almost simultaneously worldwide.
