| This is the first review of the HD5000 series I've
read and am a little disappointed. I imagine that
one possible cause for the relative slowdown
compared to say 4890CF is it needs a larger frame
buffer(1GB review model vs 2GB models which hope-
fully will come soon). Another item is the price,
which I think we all were expecting to be lower
but may be justified after said 2GB models or
better drivers come compared to other currently
available cards. I do wonder if perhaps mem. band-
width may be a bottleneck as well, but not much
can be done about that at this time. A note to the
author of this review... in the table comparing
4870, 5850 and 5870 you listed the core clock for
5870 as 750mhz when it should be 850. I may do a
little editing to wikipedia pages regarding specs
of hd5000 series now that hard data is out there. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Back in the day beta was supposed to be better but lost to vhs. blue ray is supposed to be better due to higher storage capacity and the ability to put out 1080p. however, with a good
video processor 720p can scale well to 1080p and 1080i gets a good cleanup into 1080p (talking about hd-dvd supported formats). Plus, the 360 addon drive can be used with a windows pc and hdcp content can be output from any graphics card that has the crypto rom chip like 7950, x1950 and 8800 series cards from nvidia and ati. | the R580+ gpu in the x1950xtx/cf cards is the same 90nm process as the R580 in x1900 based cards. the only difference is that R580 is designed for GDDR3 and R580+ is designed with
GDDR4 in mind. Also, I know the story is almost a year old now, but the story covering the launches of the 7600gt and the x1800gto has an error in the specification chart for the x1800gto. I don't know if it is edited by hand or something where one fills in specs and bandwidth/fillrates are calculated automatically, but the chart lists the x1800gto as having a pixel fillrate of 4000Mpixels/sec and a texel fill of the same. However, this is incorrect. Since the x1800gto has 12 texture units and rops in addition to 12 pixel shaders at a core clock of 500mhz, its pixel fill and texel fill should be 6000Mpixels/sec.
