» Standard batteries a weakness? In my experience with electronics such as digital cameras, a proprietary rechargable battery is always a hinderance. They are good for a while, but their life diminishes after a year or so and eventually the battery gets in the way. Ever buy a new cell phone where you can go a week without charging it but within a year you're lucky to get three days between charges? That's what I'm describing. And when a video game controller becomes unresponsive even a little, it's practically worthless.
In all applications possible, I use rechargable AA or AAA batteries. For cameras, state of the art rechargable NiMH batteries typically have an excellent life span but are replacable on a whim for when their life span inevitably starts decreasing.
In conclusion, I see the use of AAs as a strength rather than a weakness. Do what people with digital cameras do--Forget the alkaline batteries and get some nice rechargable batteries. They only cost about $1.50 or $2.00 a piece, so they're not much more expensive to begin with. Keep a few extras so you can swap them quickly during extended gaming or a party or whatever rather than waiting for hours to recharge. The usage of standard batteries is a definite advantage if exploited properly. Flag this | Edit this post |
