| | The Funcom devs may be cool but I'm still on the fence on this one. No concrete information out there really, and the leaked stuff is never good. Very rarely do people break an NDA for something they like. No matter how great a game is, some will hate it. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Just out of curiosity, have you seen the game first hand (or played) to know that AoC is what you wish to play? I know Anarchy Online was a loooong time ago but so far Funcom seems to be doing the exact same shit leading up to the release of AoC that they did with AO. Promised a ton of really cool sounding features that got people interested. Never had an open beta or a large stress test before launch. Never (even after launched) lifted the NDA on beta testers. So the game launched and none of the beta testers could say anything and the game turned out to be a giant steaming pile of trash. Very few of the promised features worked at all, and those that did were only 1/2 functional. I'm interested to see if they learned from their past mistakes and taken queues from Turbine on this matter. (Love or hate LotRO, had the smoothest launch in MMO history.)
Don't get me wrong, I'd really like to see AoC do well because if it does what they say it can it will kick ass. But I'm still pissed at Funcom for what they did to AO and I will not be fooled into buying a game again til someone tells me they aren't repeating their mistakes. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I don't think you're far off on the Wii never receiving a price cut since it's feasible, given the low cost of initial development and the fact it's made money from day one, for Nintendo to release a new version of the Wii in a year with 1080p support and a BD drive for the same price as the existing Wii and just phase out the current model. | | Yes, some jackass poster is going to stir up rabid fanboys because suddenly it's going to make Nintendo do poorly. Mario for 10 year olds? hehe That's funny. Never liked Zelda games? You're cheating yourself as they're largely considered the greatest gaming series of all time on any console. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Yoshi... That's really nothing more than a pipe dream in all honesty. The one thing that Microsoft is missing that Nintendo has is Nintendo. Until Microsoft can prove it's 1/2 the developer Nintendo is, which it isn't even close to, no add on controller is going to make a bit of difference. Since 3rd party games pretty much suck for the Wii I wouldn't consider Microsoft making motion sensing games any better than if they were making them as a 3rd party dev for the Wii. | | Actually, I want the Wii board for the gaming potential. Tony Hawk or a good snowboarding game designed for the wii board sounds pretty badass. The exercise portion of the WiiFit game I'm not terribly interested in. But it's not different than buying an aerobics video is it? If it gets someone motivated to work out because it makes it more fun than something else they could do (for that individual mind you) then what's the problem with that? Does it piss you off that someone may enjoy playing a game while exercising? Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I really don't see the big deal. MS will stop releasing major updates and new features to XP starting in 2009 but will continue to roll out security fixes and offer paid support until 2014. Since corporate IT departments don't call MS for support on a desktop, they reimage or reload windows, I fail to see how this effects large companies at all. Keep in mind, most of these larger companies also have some sort of Volume Licensing in place, which means they can continue to deploy XP internally with no problem. And yes, your Vista Business volume license allows you to run XP, just like Office 2007 allows you to run 2003. (although 2007 is really one of the best products MS has released in a very, very long time) A large company almost never rolls out a uniform new version of Windows because of support and training costs. The thing is, with SP1, most IT departments can get the vast majority of software to run under Vista. Why does most older software not work? Because lazy programmers wrote everything to require admin rights. If you turn off UAC and give the user admin rights to the PC chances are most of those packages will work. Oh, and from what I've seen dualbooting as a previous poster stated, DX9 games are pretty much the same in Vista or XP (minus a couple frames, but XP has the faster hard drive and pagefile). Most DX10 games load up on DX10 features and sacrifice performance. You CANNOT compare a DX10 benchmark to a DX9 benchmark fairly. If a game were natively written for DX10 you would most likely see a performance increase, but we haven't seen that happen yet so we'll have to find out. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I'd throw the Wavebird in there, I didn't know many GC owners without one. An add on that does something "wii-like" is going to fail because it's not part of the console. But it will lead to the next revision having it built in, as will the PSWhatever. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | The price will go up in the US at the very least for the simple reason the dollar is dropping in value. Considering exchange rates memory makers are basically selling memory for half as much now as a year ago. Memory prices fall but not enough to cover that gap. Flag this | Edit this post |

| It's really funny. We had a customer decide she wanted a new Skulltrain setup with 2 EVGA 9800GX2's so I actually got to play with the setup. Vista x64 SP1 on the system just so you know what I was working with. I was asked to take a look at it because they were having problems in the new build department getting QuadSLI to work and they figured I did a good amount of reading so I might be able to help. After looking things over and trying a few different revisions of the 174 driver I finally figured out the problem. One of the 9800GX2s was actually being identified as 2 8800 GT 512s... I couldn't stop laughing, it almost made me cry. EVGA promptly sent out a replacement and it worked fine with the new card. I just can't believe it's so similar nVidia's own reference driver identified it as an 8800 GT 512.
Thought some of you guys might find that funny. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Intel showed no signs of tiring when AMD caught 'em with the original Athlon. The Celeron was nothing but a failed attempt to seal AMD's fate before the Athlon made it to market. AMD is still in a better situation today than it was back then, there's no reason to assume they're out of it. And if history holds true then Intel will maintain the lead another year or so and they'll get complacent and be blindsided by something AMD is working on. Seems to be the natural order of things. | Japan, a country that can fit within a state inside the US, is much easier to rollout new tech like that in because of the higher population density and less land mass. Rolling out new tech across the US is FAR more expensive with less payout for areas covered.
I'll take being able to drive 80 miles to a forest over being so crowded I can get 50 Mb/sec internet access. Flag this | Edit this post |
