| | How about the senators ask parents to actually check out what their kids are playing? I mean, it's rated M for a reason. Why is it ok to rate a movie R, which has no legal recourse for keeping out children under 17, but not okay to rate video games the same? Maybe the ESRB should change M to R and they'll shutup. | Given the amount of coding that goes into the latest blockbuster games and the insanely large diversity in PCs it's impossible to release a PC game that doesn't require patching and driver improvements to squeeze performance out of it. You're being unreasonable at best by thinking that it shouldn't be the case. It's impossible for a dev to test the entire game on the myriad of system configs without actually launching the game, or giving away the full thing free temporarily before launch. (but that doesn't make much sense unless it's an MMO)
Now if we want to discuss the disgrace that has fallen on lazy console developers with a stream of patches for console games, I'll agree with you 110%. Everything is fixed on a console, there's no variation that has to be accounted for. Anything more than minor bug fixes on a console is sad. Performance patches on a console should make a person not want to deal with that dev again. It's not like the console suddenly had a change in hardware. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | It's simple, they've got a new one ready to ship but as long as the current DS keeps it's sales pace there's no reason to. When sales start to drop off they'll release the refresh and a lot of people who have one already will get it again just for the larger screens and, I'd bet money, better battery life. | | Ardrid, no offense, but the general population does almost no research when buying a $25,000 car. A $400 game system, when there's only two to choose from won't do any research. (those shopping for a Wii only want a Wii, it's a toss up for a lot of people between a PS3 and a 360) At any rate, I wouldn't expect Sony to run around touting that it doesn't have backwards support, you never go out of your way to advertise what your device won't do. You simply leave the fine print there saying it won't so that people can't sue you. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I was avoiding buying this game because I remember 1-2 hours of sleep a night for what seemed like months on end with the original Diablo, and to a lesser extent Diablo 2... But a friend of mine said he pre-ordered online, was told it was back ordered two weeks, cancelled the order and went to the store and bought it. Then the very same afternoon the copy from the online retailer showed up on his doorstep, but they already refunded his money. So he's bringing me the extra copy to work tomorrow. DAMN HIM! I have a family now, I can't do another Diablo! Flag this | Edit this post |

| | There's no real question when comparing it to a FPS, however it's in a completely different Genre. It's billed as an MMO and therefore must be judged by MMO standards, not against CoD4, Unreal, ET:QW, etc, etc. That's why, less than a week into the game's existance, it's too early to judge it's replay value. MMOs are judged in hundreds of days played, a year from now when people are topping 100 days of game time logged then we'll know the replay value. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I'm not saying your wrong, but your judgement is far too early. The game hasn't been out nearly long enough, nor have we seen what the sub model has to offer, to know how long term the replayability is. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | It's sad, this is probably a pretty clear example of what a pushy publisher can do to the launch of an MMO. They want firm dates too far in advance and the devs are usually under too much pressure, or in many cases they think server stability is going to be one of the easier things to fix so they focus on other aspects. Then on launch day everything collapses because it wasn't properly tested. The subscription services should have been live in beta for testing of account upgrades, etc. Either the publisher forced them to release it earlier than they wanted or they were sloppy planning for the stress on servers/billing systems at launch. Always very bad for a game in the long term if it's not fixed real fast. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Not a huge fan of Tabula Rasa, Hellgate is cool though. TR was so buggy just two weeks ago it's hard to imagine that's been fixed. Devs need to learn server stability needs to be top priority for release, seems all too easy to forget. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Imagine lines of picketers standing outside 300 on opening day warning parents that kids shouldn't see it, or standing outside of a 24 hour video doing the same. The Parents should be paying enough attention to know in the first place.
That's the bad thing about being a parent. By the time you know if you're a good parent, it's too late if you aren't. Flag this | Edit this post |

| His comments aren't self-contradictory at all. When comparing the consoles, Wii is the only next gen console when you think about it changing the way games are played and who plays them. The Wii's appeal to traditional gamers is semi-weak but they do have some pretty awesome games for us that, when they all are finally out, will certainly have made my Wii a worthwhile investment. To me, as a traditional gamer, is it next gen? Not really. It's next gen because my wife wants to take it with her out of town, it's next gen because it draws lines at parties and can be the center of attention by all different kinds of people. You can pick it up and play with little or no learning curve.
PS3 and X360 are next gen when you define next gen as the next upgrade in terms of processing power, physics and graphics. The Wii certainly lacks in this point, but with the low-cost of it and the fact they made a profit so early, Nintendo could easily release a Wii HD in a year (holiday 2008 would be a great time, end of analog TV and all) for the same price point the current Wii sells at. Then they could come close to matching 360 or PS3 graphics and still remain profitable, then they'd have the edge in control and equality in graphics.
The PC Keyboard/Mouse is the best interface to date. That hasn't changed for traditional gamers. And it's something everyone is used to because almost everyone uses it at work at a regular basis. Most have a PC at home already. Gaming on a PC is just learning to use what you already know, which makes it the better platform really. So I pretty much agree with what he says. | | In this case I agree, but if it's several weeks of play before "launch" for, say, $5 it's a good chance to see if it's worth spending the other 45. If not, cancel and you're out your 5, no big deal. Just wouldn't do it online where they ship it to you because it's hard to back out, gotta do it at the store. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I don't recall the PS3 ever selling 600k units in a week, so tell me how that chart is correct? Also keep in mind that we're approaching the holiday season now, September and October will typically be slower sales months as non-gamers are saving up their money for the November/December holiday frenzy. It's pretty common for a decline in sales right before a major spike. Oh, and I still hear non-games/parents wanting to buy Wiis for both themselves and their kids. A typical 10 year old girl won't come up and ask their parent for a PS360, but chances are they have a DS or play one of their friends and are already interested in Nintendo products. I've heard from many, many parents of girls that their daughters want a Wii bad. It's hard to combat for Sony/MS because they have no chance at a large part of Nintendo's market. | | While I don't think this will ever happen, or at least not anytime in the near term, it's a great idea. It would be nice to just have a game that you could pop into any console and play. The games would have minimum requirements so not all consoles could play all games, but as long as horsepower is up to snuff it would be nice. Oh well, pipe dream. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I always see this coming yet hope it doesn't every time. Especially this one, but oh well... Feb isn't too far off, and there's no doubt in my mind SSB will live up to, and beat, my expectations. Considering I still fire up my SSBM on a regular basis the games certainly give enough replay value. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I'm curious what level you played all the character classes to... They're all pretty simple until the late teens/early 20s when they've finally developed their base skills and start to really fill their roles in the game. To me, the minstrel is hands down the most fun healing class I've played in any MMO. And with the Book 11 patch they get a major upgrade and can actually do far better solo then before. Oh well, to each his own. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Odd they made Jeff Crowley the new President and CEO. Executive Producer from AC so he's got plenty of experience, just seems like an odd choice for CEO for a company.
Let's face it, them picking up a new executive producer for an all new game right after picking up a new lead 360 and PS3 engineer is more interesting. Flag this | Edit this post |
