| Imagine lines of picketers standing outside 300 on opening day warning parents that kids shouldn't see it, or standing outside of a 24 hour video doing the same. The Parents should be paying enough attention to know in the first place.
That's the bad thing about being a parent. By the time you know if you're a good parent, it's too late if you aren't. Flag this | Edit this post |

| His comments aren't self-contradictory at all. When comparing the consoles, Wii is the only next gen console when you think about it changing the way games are played and who plays them. The Wii's appeal to traditional gamers is semi-weak but they do have some pretty awesome games for us that, when they all are finally out, will certainly have made my Wii a worthwhile investment. To me, as a traditional gamer, is it next gen? Not really. It's next gen because my wife wants to take it with her out of town, it's next gen because it draws lines at parties and can be the center of attention by all different kinds of people. You can pick it up and play with little or no learning curve.
PS3 and X360 are next gen when you define next gen as the next upgrade in terms of processing power, physics and graphics. The Wii certainly lacks in this point, but with the low-cost of it and the fact they made a profit so early, Nintendo could easily release a Wii HD in a year (holiday 2008 would be a great time, end of analog TV and all) for the same price point the current Wii sells at. Then they could come close to matching 360 or PS3 graphics and still remain profitable, then they'd have the edge in control and equality in graphics.
The PC Keyboard/Mouse is the best interface to date. That hasn't changed for traditional gamers. And it's something everyone is used to because almost everyone uses it at work at a regular basis. Most have a PC at home already. Gaming on a PC is just learning to use what you already know, which makes it the better platform really. So I pretty much agree with what he says. | | In this case I agree, but if it's several weeks of play before "launch" for, say, $5 it's a good chance to see if it's worth spending the other 45. If not, cancel and you're out your 5, no big deal. Just wouldn't do it online where they ship it to you because it's hard to back out, gotta do it at the store. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I don't recall the PS3 ever selling 600k units in a week, so tell me how that chart is correct? Also keep in mind that we're approaching the holiday season now, September and October will typically be slower sales months as non-gamers are saving up their money for the November/December holiday frenzy. It's pretty common for a decline in sales right before a major spike. Oh, and I still hear non-games/parents wanting to buy Wiis for both themselves and their kids. A typical 10 year old girl won't come up and ask their parent for a PS360, but chances are they have a DS or play one of their friends and are already interested in Nintendo products. I've heard from many, many parents of girls that their daughters want a Wii bad. It's hard to combat for Sony/MS because they have no chance at a large part of Nintendo's market. | | While I don't think this will ever happen, or at least not anytime in the near term, it's a great idea. It would be nice to just have a game that you could pop into any console and play. The games would have minimum requirements so not all consoles could play all games, but as long as horsepower is up to snuff it would be nice. Oh well, pipe dream. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I always see this coming yet hope it doesn't every time. Especially this one, but oh well... Feb isn't too far off, and there's no doubt in my mind SSB will live up to, and beat, my expectations. Considering I still fire up my SSBM on a regular basis the games certainly give enough replay value. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I'm curious what level you played all the character classes to... They're all pretty simple until the late teens/early 20s when they've finally developed their base skills and start to really fill their roles in the game. To me, the minstrel is hands down the most fun healing class I've played in any MMO. And with the Book 11 patch they get a major upgrade and can actually do far better solo then before. Oh well, to each his own. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Odd they made Jeff Crowley the new President and CEO. Executive Producer from AC so he's got plenty of experience, just seems like an odd choice for CEO for a company.
Let's face it, them picking up a new executive producer for an all new game right after picking up a new lead 360 and PS3 engineer is more interesting. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Linux is an OS for geeks by geeks. Until we see them spend some serious time and effort into working with large study groups to figure out what people are good with Linux will remain that way. Unfortunately I don't see open source devs really doing that. Privatization would help Linux but it can't happen so... Flag this | Edit this post |

| MP3 really demonstrates what the control system is capable of and really shows a bright spot for the future of the console. With SSB and Mario coming out soon having a Wii will be great indeed. I agree with what's being said here though about 3rd party games getting better with a little more time. No More Heroes is really high on my list of games with potential. It should be pretty interesting.
Although I will say... When was the last time Nintendo's games ever took a back seat to a 3rd party game? They've always, always been the top dev on their console. In my opinion they're the best game dev company in the world, hands down. They've put out more top-notch titles than anyone, even when compared to the biggest games on other consoles. Name one other studio with half as many titles that can equal N's best. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | What happens when they put that kind of time/money into a PC Game? It barely beats out WoW and Sims for a week or two if it's lucky. As long as game devs keep seeing those kind of PC sales for blockbuster titles, fewer and fewer will see the light of day on PC. And almost none will be exclusive. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | As we've seen down here with the Texans, even with a problem that appears to be deeper than the QB a truely great QB will lead the team to snap out of those issues. You'd swear the Texans have a whole new offensive line this year and we don't, just a QB who knows how to lead the offense. I don't think Griese is that guy for the Bears, we'll have to see who is. | This is no different than all the people who tried selling XP with 128MB of RAM. If you go for minimum requirements you get minimum performance.
Although I ran into a bug installing a Vista Business PC on a Win 2k3x64 R2 domain and network transfer rates on the PC were averaging about 5 to 10K/sec. After trying everything we could think of we called MS and they said "This is a known issue in some circumstances, we aren't sure how to fix it but it'll be fixed with SP1." It's a pretty major bug and it makes it hard for me to recommend Vista to other clients, despite some of the features being better than XP. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I'd wager 2-3% of gaming rigs out there today are DX10 capable. I've got both of mine running on DX10 hardware/vista and have for a while. Remember, adoption rate will skyrocket over the next year. Vista is slightly behind XP but I think that's only because people finally learned their lesson on the bleeding edge with XP. Sometimes you cut yourself.
SP1 will come out early next year which is when more and more will feel comfortable, businesses will start rolling it out on a larger scale and that will trickle down to the home market. Remember, 9 months after XP launched forums looked identical. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I live in Houston and the idea of intersections being like a 4-way stop and/or leaving it up to common sense scares the hell out of me. I guess it could work some places, but the example of the lights out... Traffic is an absolute mess here, anywhere, when that happens. People can't figure it out in Houston...
Edit - People can't see the trains coming in downtown Houston with lights and sirens going. You wouldn't believe how much work was done to improve the gene pool in the first year it was open here. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | By the time we'd see the next Mechwarrior game everything would be coming out in DX10 anyway. Just like XP after a few years most computers will be running Vista. I personally couldn't be happier with the switch, the additional diag tools alone in the OS make it worthwhile. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I read a blog that summed it up nicely. There isn't anything wrong with Vista really, it runs well, is plenty stable with proper drivers and the interface is pleasing. However, there's nothing in Vista that will make a person more productive. It's not limiting their productivity but it's not improving it either. That's what makes it so difficult to sell as an upgrade. Flag this | Edit this post |
