| | Until only a month ago my brother used a 6800 AGP in his computer. It was a mighty fine chip for its age, played his games just fine (with the settings a little low). The thing was even better back in early 05 when I got it. Oh to be able to tell your friends you had a 6800 and they didn't. As for LoTRO, that game sucks. I played the open beta and couldn't make myself like it no matter how hard I tried. Good article sir, good article. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I built a few machines with these very CPUs, including five to replace the aging machines of the radio station I work for. A lot of people dissed the Pentium D, but I quite liked them. Back when they were far cheaper than the A64 X2s, they really were great. They gave several of my friends the right to brag about having dual core processors, but today you would be better of with a $75 Athlon 64 X2 3600+ for a mere $75. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Good article, I agree with you. The Athlon 64, although aging, isn't dead yet. My brother runs an Athlon 64 3400+ Socket 754. That thing is a trooper. My friend also runs an Athlon 64 2800+ with good results. Heres to the ever trusty Althon 64. You did good pal, you did good. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I can't believe your results with the 6600GT are that poor. My friend Richard plays on an Athlon 64 2800+, 1.5GB RAM, and the 6600GT AGP. Although he bumps most of the settings to as low as possible, he can still get a very playable, smooth experience. Even when I was using the very 6600GT in his machine right now I could play UT04 at 1280x1024 4xAA/AF and get 40-60 fps easy, even on demanding levels. I think that may indicate a problem with your machine because I had a 5700LE running UT04 on 1280x1024 no AA/AF perfectly smooth. This was a good article and it can be surprising to see how the 6600GT has stood the test of time, especially when you look at how popular the chip was when it first came out. I can still remember how excited I was when I pulled my 6600GT out of the box. Doom 3 at more that 20fps? Hell yes! Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Reminds me of my first CPU when I was but a wee lad of 12, the Athlon XP 2000+. Fine performance for 2003, but not so much now. Well, at least for gaming. That little sucker is still running Ubuntu amazingly well! Flag this | Edit this post |
