| Indeed. Digital "Rights" Management? It is more like Digital _Restrictions_ Management. I see no benefit from all this over-complicated crap for us, the consumers. All I see is an attack on my fair use rights. Although it is a well written article, I can't help but to wonder why any sane person would get excited about this junk and write about it. "Oh, it is really cool...It encrypts the video with 2 layers of copy restriction..." Sounds like MPAA propaganda.
And I am the owner of a PS3, and I've seen the one free BD movie that came with it in my HD set. I also own an upscaling DVD player, and yes, "DVDs are good enough" :P Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Good one! Hahaha...good one! I noticed the same :)
What good is the price cut if there are no games for it? Mine is still collecting dust. I end up buying my games as PC or 360 versions, since you don't know what you'll get with PS3 (bad ports, bad games or no 1080i). I'm still waiting for the exclusives, but the way they are losing them, I think I'll end up using my PS3 as a Yellow Dog Linux computer. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Thanks! Thanks for the kind comment. Developers are stuck with complicated CAD tools to do their work. I learned quite a bit when I modded Morrowind and Neverwinter Nights. If those are the tools they use, no wonder their development cycles are so long. If you are going to have to hand-place every tree in a forest and hand-sculpt a landscape, you'll take a long time with a large team. Tools need to evolve. Until then, the present problem will continue. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Good game, too short. I guess if you go around looking for the side quests it may last longer, but you have to actively search for them. Patton's voice as the Darkness is excellent (very creepy).
Didn't try the PS3 version (won't risk not playing at 1080i) but the 360 doesn't use the HDD to help load times. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Great article. Confirms most of my thoughts on why game developing as a whole is getting stagnant. From reading this I can conclude that in order to restart initiative and creativity(and smaller development teams) the tools to develop games have to evolve. Graphics, sound, game world size, etc have increased with time, but not the capability of the tools to create them, thus the 100+ teams needed to make a game.
Tools need to get to the point that a small team of developers can create a game in the same time it used to take them to create a game 10 years ago, without sacrificing today's technology that gamers expect (hi-def 3D graphics, sound, etc). That way they can spend most of the time on their idea, and not on the bulk tasks which make large teams a necessity. Going Wii is not an answer, it is just a temporary solution, IMO. | » Honest benchmarks "On Tuesday AMD sent out a mass email to the media alerting us that they hadn’t seen the Lost Planet benchmark and thus they hadn’t optimized for it, but clearly the card is performing well anyway."
That's the kind of benchmarks I want to see. Not some "optimized" unrealistic test. Real world results without tampering. I'm glad to see AMD giving good _real world_ results.
This article confirms my decision to stay with XP and DX9 for the time being. Vista is a let down that MS is forcing down our throats. I won't be touching Vista until all the problems are resolved (and the DRM is hacked away). There aren't any "must have" DX10-only games for me yet, so I'll wait. Flag this | Edit this post |
