The 100+ page comic makes this collectors edition worth it for me. I've already read the first comic and novel and must say that this game should be rich with story. I think it will be a hit, I've seen a lot of people say how addicting it is.
I've taken a class in law. For conviction in a criminal trial the burden of proof is much higher. In order to convict someone there can be no reasonable doubt. In a civil trial you mainly have to prove that they are most likely guilty. You don't need as much evidence etc.
I'm more amazed that they even wanted to pay him for this in the first place.
I look at it as a smart move for EA. EA says they don't plan to be involved, but I think it would make sense for them to handle publishing for the games. Who knows it could end up being good for both parties.
