| Yea, no JUMP?? What is this, Condemned? (Just kidding, C:CO was a fine game, all things considered.)
It's really, really pretty though. Awesome horror atmosphere. The movement mechanics are limited but the squad members you can switch between are cool and all have different abilities.
Unfortunate that the demo was only like 5 minutes long. wtf?
Edit: Forgot to mention that I kinda liked the Dragon's Lair-esque part with reflex based movement triggers, mixed up the gameplay. Oh yea, and the animation is really solid all around. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I also remember the graphics looking better, and I play almost every day. I guess the new units just have a weird style, but it doesn't really look like highest-detail settings either. Where are the character shadows? No blob, nothing...
'Course you're never going to be zoomed in that far while playing, but still. Flag this | Edit this post |

| HL2: November 16, 2004 (5yr dev)
EP1: June 1, 2006 (19mo dev)
EP2: October 10, 2007 (17mo dev)
Afaik the S&M games were released on a monthly basis.
These are two very different examples of "Episodic games". The Valve episodes are more like expansion packs than anything. Like, if instead of Opposing Force and Blue Shift they called the first HL expansions HL: Episodes 1 and 2. (Except those expansions were developed by a different team afaik so that's where the comparison falls apart...).
Whatever they want to call it, I'd rather get new content in a year and a half, instead of another 4-5 year wait. What I still don't understand is their bizarre pricing scheme. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I love episodic gaming. Especially with the great values Valve has been providing. It gives them a chance to make engine improvements and to focus more attention on each leg of the full game. And we get the content earlier.
The new Sam & Max is another example of a really great, and successful episodic game. The adventure game genre seems well suited for it.
I'm still waiting for SiN ep.2 - ep.1 was fun; it was a little mediocre in parts, but still had the action packed thrill ride thing going for it. I think they may have given up on that franchise, I haven't heard anything about it for a while. Flag this | Edit this post |

| ...which really sucks. Hopefully we'll see less of this kind of thing when game engines become multi-platform like id Tech 5. So the only obstacle will be the exclusive dealies.
Edit: I should specify, there are certainly multiplatform engines but not from the get-go, ie: they have to port it, sometimes by a different company. id Tech 5 is Mac, PC, PS3, and 360 compatible with no porting. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Also playing the beta here, it's got a really nice feel to it. It's a huge map, with a bunch of different types of capture points at which you can buy weapons, ammo etc, And you can nuke the enemy HQ to win. I was wondering though, what's with all the pickup trucks? Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I would think the editor would be fully featured, with the available construction resources (textures etc) limited to whatever they use in the Demo level. You should be able to import whatever you do in the Demo editor to the full version. That's my best guess, don't quote me... Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Whoops, you're totally right. I just ASSumed FS would post highest-quality shots for a Review feature. I guess the ET:QW shot shouldn't be used as a comparison mark either if the settings weren't all on highest like Brandon says above. Flag this | Edit this post |
