| | At this day and age, I think these graphics are pretty bad. Just look at the graphics in Shattered Horizon as a good example. Yeah one is a level based FPS and another one is an open world space simulation, but that doesn't excuse them from badly tuned lighting and shading without proper gamma correction. | | Looks like they're playing back a video on the face along with animated joints. Only animating joints which is the traditional facial animation will not get you to this quality, and I must say, I LIKE this quality :) Flag this | Edit this post |

| I've been playing Medal of Honor multiplayer lately, and I think it's awesome and the graphics while not ground breaking are very good as the Frostbite engine seems to be really flexing its muscles.
So, honestly, (I don't know so I'm asking), is COD: BO *that* good, or are people just riding the hype train when they claim it has the best graphics, and the gameplay is awesome yadayadayada... Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Aw crap. I can't believe they'd blatantly lie about this being game play footage. Sure some of it might eventually end up looking similar to game play footage, but this obviously isn't "recorded game play footage". It's more like using in game assets to rerender the game. Game studios build this tech to get their cut scenes a bit better looking than the actual game while not straying too far away from the game's looks. God of War does it, Uncharted does it... Heck this one is even more scripted than the Milo demo Peter Molyneux gave at TED. Heh. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I agree with just about every comment you have and then some...
I think some folks cannot help but expect to be playing a GTA clone, and that's where it breaks, and makes them think it's a sub-par game because it doesn't extend that genre the right way. They take GTA to be the best example of a game that takes place in a city environment (I'm not saying an "open world sandbox game" on purpose) and anything else that works in a similar fashion is just a clone of the genre.
I don't know why all reviewers seem to think that the story is sub-par either. It almost feels like the opposite case of "The Emperor's New Clothes" situation. Someone said the story sucks, so everyone agrees. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I'd say this is one game that has style over substance, and depending on what you prefer, you might actually like it. A bit like Metal Gear Solid where the cut-scene end up taking a bit away from the gameplay, and then you realize they forgot to spice up the gameplay to match with the rest of the industry standards.
That being said, IMHO people don't seem to recognize the quality of the presentation this game brings to the table. Yes I'm a technical geek, so I like to notice every subtle detail... but I also realize that might not float everyones boat. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | BTW what this article doesn't point out is that Crytek claims to have implemented a method of stereoscopy that doesn't involved rendering the whole frame twice, and if i'm not mistaken, they claim the added cost is mere milliseconds (1-2ms). Flag this | Edit this post |

| How's that for 2 to 1 sales of PCs? If those figures are true, then shouldn't have DA:O sold crap load more on the PCs than it did on the consoles, or was everyone and their grandmother pirating the game (which I doubt BTW).
PC gaming might not be dead, but even with the "Best PC RPG of 2009" not backing up the PC community, something is amiss here... Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I do have a 30" screen, but correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the UI to screen size ratio remains the same regardless of the screen resolution. (i.e. does NOT cover the same number of pixels on low resolutions vs. high resolutions). Flag this | Edit this post |

| While the game is extremely polished in many ways, and the game has *a lot* of character when compared to other RTS's, I really don't understand how so many people can forgive the fact that the game in certain ways is almost a step back in the RTS genre.
Many reviews briefly touch on some of these aspects, but just brush it off as if it's not a big deal while I don't think they would let some other games get away with it. Almost like the name Blizzard is a "get out of jail card". My biggest problem is the lack of dynamic zooming, and the gigantic UI with the relatively useless UI display on the bottom middle of the screen. If you've played Supreme Commander, you'll know what I'm talking about. This is also a PC only game, but it almost feels like in certain ways it could've been a console game.
I wonder how many of their technical design choices were there to make sure the lower spec PCs could have roughly the same gameplay experience with the high-end PCs. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Talk about a self fulfilling prophecy or perhaps the placebo effect of people starting to read into "how intelligent the AI was" when perhaps it was a glitch in the random number generator :)
I feel like Crytek is starting to get a bit too snobbish with their comments. I can understand claiming that your graphics are good as it will be quite obvious, but AI? How can they possibly know that they have the most advanced AI when they don't even know what other games are doing behind the scenes? Flag this | Edit this post |
