Woot!

By that time I should have finished V, X & XII too.

Good timing.

Already played, III, IV, VI, VII, VIII, IX, Tactics, Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Xenogears.

Sweet spot is $75 or less. Then it becomes a real buy for almost anyone.

If they would accept a small loss at the start $50 would make this thing fly off the shelves.

Maybe $50 w/o game (virtual dashboard functionality only) $75 w/ game (M$oft's version of Wii Sports)?

Wait a little while longer to sell (or even hold!).

The stock will go up even more once the rest of the 'street' really digests what this will mean.

Unless the management of AMD is insanely idiotic a windfall like this likely means a few years of guaranteed profitability for AMD!

So what is the point of the story?

Modding = cheating

You get caught, you get the ban-hammer. As a result you have to buy a new more reliable 360 at a cheaper price.

Non-story...

If you accept the benefit of modding you must except the consequence too.

So is the answer just developing Wavebird 2.0 for the Wii?

Is turnabout fair play?

Wii HD with a PS3/360 style wireless
controller option, while the 360 develops Natal and Sony develops motion controllers.

Sounds like both sides need to realize what the other did right and we'll all meet in the middle next gen.

Wow, how did this turn into Yoshi vs. Terrak?

Let's be frank, Nintendo won this round. He who sells the most consoles & games and makes the most money (combined) wins. No contest.

All we're really discussing is why Nintendo is going out with a wimper, and what they need to do to stay on top.

We all agree their position has been slipping (or preparing to slip) for a while now (past two years?) If Sony hadn't been losing so much money and if the 360 didn't have the RROD fiasco to pay for Big N's fall would have happened sooner.

Imagine if Sony & M$oft's price drop was 1 year sooner? That would mean perhaps a second price drop this year and a bigger problem for Nintendo.

Anyway, Terrak, not sure what you are smoking. How can you claim the Wii HD is going to have graphics far and beyond the 360 or PS3? Have you seen Uncharted 2? Dragon Age? Even if Nintendo does come up with hardware with the potential to do better its going to be at least 2 years before people figure out how to make it sing. By that time Natal (complete with 360 v2) will be out, and likely they'll be floating specs for NextBox & PS4 for a 2012 or 2013 release. Not only that devs would have figured out how to squeeze the last drops out of the 360 hardware, and we'll have more Uncharted 2 quality games for PS3.

Plus, when has Nintendo EVER gone bleeding edge on the hardware? Not their style. The damn Wii doesn't even play CDs! To think they are going to jump to uber-hardware, maybe even Blu-ray player bundled for $250 or less is ridiculous.

Doooooommm for 360 :)

Actually we knew Sony wanted this...BADLY and now that they have it really will push the PS3>>>360 argument.

Fanboys for either side please remember: Competition = WIN for consumers.

These features will end up becoming the defacto standard for the next gen consoles in 2011/2012.

Hey, its a simple thing to check. Drop all prices by $10 and see what happens.

Better yet, SSFIV is going to be a good test. Same game, new content & characters for $40 instead of $60.

IMHO guaranteed top 3 on PS3/360 sales charts for at least two-three months when it hits.

Ohhh no! DOOM FOR 360!

PS3 4 that win!

:)

Interesting but pointless news. The story really hasn't changed.

Nintendo just prints money, M$oft is happy for now (1.5million ODST's proves that), and Sony is still playing catch up.

Real question: Is Sony finally making money on hardware? I know the slim costs less to make, but a $100 price cut takes out a lot of margin.

FYI for the uninitiated I own a PS3 & Wii. Maybe a 360 after Black Friday :)

Flaming aside, as a Christian gamer if the only argument they have is 'its too soon' then they're full of it.

Plus frankly I don't know why the Christian Science monitor even cares about MW2?

Quit giving the faith a bad name.

Yeah, we're running pretty far ahead of what everyone will use, or what programs can take advantage of.

I may be wrong, but don't most programs (including OS) still not even optimally use dual core CPUs, let alone quad or six cores?!

We'd have lower prices, but likely a bigger spread in performance and standardization.

In this case its really only Intel vs. AMD. There aren't any other major players to worry about.

It's the classic M$oft Wintel monopoly argument.

Yes, M$oft and Intel have had a stranglehold on the operating system and the CPU for 20+ years. However, its undeniable that these monopolies allowed proliferation of PC's globally that likely would not have occurred if defacto 'standards' didn't exist.

I'm a capitalist through and through, but even I admit certain things actually work better with a monopoly. For example if there had been eight different operating systems with six different CPU companies competing it would have been chaos. Development would have been too complex & costly.

Everyone starting from the same sandbox helped everyone get on board but hindered innovation & price.

Interesting case. Normally I dislike what the EU does (its more akin to lets shake down big company X and get a few billion dollars) but they make some good points.

As always, have to remind everyone (not just the corporation haters) free market w/ competition means Consumers = Win :)

LOL...funny but true.

This may be very good news for gamers. If this works to spur sales then I can guarantee a$50 price drop...next year.

My prediction-Starting Sep 2010

Arcade = Dead, or dropped to $149 to compete w/ Wii
SKU 1: Elite console @249
SKU 2: Natal bundle @399 (likely with larger HD & *hope* Integrated WiFi)

Maybe I don't completely understand the online business segment, but as a consumer and customer of FS (as well as a gamer) I still have an opinion.

Mine says FAIL.

You can tell myself & others we're 'bad' or 'uninformed' customers. We should just suck it up, be happy for any contests, and subject our data to the nice ad provider. However if you really ARE in business you should know how your customers will perceive that (hint...not well).

Businesses make choices and must live with those choices. Some the customers will understand or applaud. Others they will not like. Simple business concept for any industry.

(nods head in agreement).

Yep...technology is racing a bit too far and consumers haven't caught up (blu-ray, 1080p 120hz tv's, Computers as you mention, smart phones, you name it).

Especially if your income is not growing exponentially every 3 years and the economy is in a two year slide with at least a year left before any relief.

Yeah, I agree this is the problem.

Big N expanded the consumer base, but I think that expansion is over.

Wii's practically fall off trees now. They are a victim of their own success. Unless they get schools using them I don't see what new markets they have.

This biatch better be part of the bundle @ $299! Or part of some Natal bundle @349 or 399.

Knowing M$oft they'll charge $150 for the 'upgrade' in network performance while the other consoles still provide FREE wi-fi built in.

It won't cost $100 USD.

Guarantee the game won't be over $69.99 (likely only $59.99 like regular games).

Expensive? Yes. But at least when you buy a RPG you get a ton of content (normally 40+ hrs) & replay value.

A $350 bundle may make me invest in a new PS3...

The FFVII Advent Children PS3 bundle from japan was sweet...sad they didn't release it here (me like the gunmetal grey console)
