| Pull my finger out of whaaaa?
It seems your juvenille fingers are in your ears... try listening instead.
You were so angry someone challenged your utopia you missed my point.
History lesson. It's been roughly 100 years since industrialized societies began, right?
You show me where wages have equalized. Everyone has moved up the scale (the difference is now in making $100/hr vs. $1/hr instead of $5/hr vs. $0.05/hr at the turn of the century) but there IS a scale and always will be.
You can wait 1000 years, and you won't have your utopia. Why? Two basic principles must be recognized & accepted:
1. Different workers provide different levels of skill (and thus value).
2. Political-socio-economic conditions are different globally. See my previous post.
Until these things are equal your utopia makes no sense. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I hope you're not serious, but unfortunately I know you are.
When living conditions, political structures, education levels, opportunities, and innovation are the same THEN you can request your 'utopia' of everyone making the same amount of money.
Otherwise please stop talking without having a clue as to how a global economy works and wage levels are set. Flag this | Edit this post |

| We always want something to blame (Rock n Roll, drugs, video games, computeres).
What's missing is capable, caring parents.
Teach your kids what is real and what is not. Teach them what place gaming should (and shouldn't) have in their life. Teach them life is going to be hard and will sux at times, but they still have to get through it without violence or becoming a social pariah.
Teach them social skills and give them opportunities to use/develop them further.
Do your job and parent! Flag this | Edit this post |

| I wouldn't call critcizing religion 'starting off on the right foot', but that's your choice. Having an informed discussion? Sure.
Also not sure anyone should rely purely on science as their end all be all.
Science depends on our ability to understand and come to correct conclusions. We don't know what we don't know. Science constantly changes as we find new evidence, refine current theories, or debunk current theory. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Unfortunately the ad campaign is going from something that was mildly amusing at times to Mac = false advertising, high price + pretentiousness
If you're M$oft you have to be smiling. They had to change their campaign because Win 7 is the shizznit and finally helped M$oft catch up in terms of useability, features & stability. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Yawn.
Apple turned itself into a successful lifestyle gadget company.
M$oft still has a stranglehold on core software while trying to become an entertainment gadget company.
Ask yourself some questions:
If you wanted to hold the stock for 10 years which one would you buy now?
If you could have bought stock 20 years ago which one would you have bought?
Thought so... Flag this | Edit this post |

| W3rd to Synchronous Failure!
@Urizen the digital question doesn't matter.
1. There is no 'magic fairy dust'.
2. The person's intention in using 'magic fairy dust' would be to gain a good that they could not have gained w/o paying for.
It's not theoretical income. It's REAL income. If it weren't for the 'free fairy dust' the person would have had to pay for the item, or not gotten the item.
3. The creator (and/or distributor) of the IP did not intend for free use. Otherwise they would have given it out free cars, or given others rights to copy for free. Even in that case someone would have had to produce the free car, and since there is no free lunch that wouldn't have happened. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Lets just get it out of the way now:
Stealing is wrong, period.
No justification. No rationalization. No excuse.
However, the punishment must fit the crime. Watching the Hurt Locker via torrent = thousands of dollars in legal fees to fight a lawsuit plus potential jail time? Don't think so.
I hope I'm not in the minority on this site but:
If you've knowingly hosted bits of copyrighted data and millions of people received your bits the penalty should rightfully be steeper...
It's one thing to steal a copy for yourself to view (petty theft). It's another to steal it (or pieces) and knowingly ensure a million of your 'closest friends' have access as well.
Is he acting like a jag? Yes. But he's a jag that is right in this case. Flag this | Edit this post |

| If you're M$oft you'll take this scenario this generation and next.
Launch early, lock up 2nd place for four years (if not five), have an insanely high game attach rate, make money from online, and (despite the warranty fiasco) make money on the hardware after 2 years.
Even better:
1. One competitor has a gimmick console (hey I own a Wii too) which is so different and cheap it actually DOESN'T take away from your console's sales.
Let's be honest, the Wii is rarely anyone's main console. It's an inexpensive OTHER console whenever you want to get your Mario/Zelda/Metroid on.
2. Sony lost their SHIRTS on hardware for the first three years. Yes I own a PS3 (bought mainly for blu-ray), but facts are facts.
I'm more curious how M$oft thinks Natal is going to extend the life of 360.
Isn't it time for a console above PS3 capability WITH Natal as an optional add on? the 360 is already long in the tooth and its only going to get worse... Flag this | Edit this post |

| I agree with Keilun.
Not sure about the legal contract they were under but if that's a bonus based on past performance that's not right. It's owed to them.
Oh well, as usual it will be years (if ever) before we get the real story with full evidence to support either side. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I've got my MBA, but I'm sure you should think a little deeper on that...making money isn't the only exclusive goal, even in for profit companies.
A company has other intrinsic goals that effect how and why they make money.
For example:
A company aims to persist as a going concern.
A company aims to provide a product/service.
From a theoretical standpoint if a company cared exclusively about profit no matter what they started selling they would gravitate towards an industry where they could make the most profit. Flag this | Edit this post |

| True, but saving money for whom?
Game prices won't go down.
I doubt they'll spend more on development.
I doubt they'll pay their employees more.
If you are a shareholder you may benefit via better margins.
Also, now those in the timber, paper, and printing industries will have to find another customer or go out of business. Flag this | Edit this post |
