| » Next game I know it wouldnt be historically correct - but how about combining Shogun, Romance of The 3 Kingdoms and Gehgis Khan for the next one for a real Asian total war. Maybe even have Europe Midevil ages at the same time and see who wins. Knights, ninja, samurias - like a Deadliest Warrior strategy game. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Should have said PC market is too small Bad Company 2 has sold 310,000 copies on the PC vs 1.64mm on X360, and just over 1mm on PS3.
COD:MW2 has sold 10.2mm on X360 and 7.4mm on PS3. The PC version has sold 2mm (from the horse's mouth on 3/27/10).
So in both cases you are talking about 10% of total sales. So unless your game is a generational blockbuster, its not worth doing more then a non-enhanced X360 port - and none of us want that anyway.
PC gaming may not be dying but its going super niche. RTS, MMO and the Sims are all you should expect to see out of any studio focused on making $$. Thank the pirates and 65" plasmas. Link: http://vgchartz.com/worldtotal......nre=&sort=Total Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Yoshi Wins Yoshi has some good points on 3rd party software.
Look we all know the Wii won the hardware battle. But its been a disaster for 3rd party software companies.
Top 50 Wii titles sold 232.8mm copies. 19 of them were Nintendo. But worse, 173.4mm copies were Nintendo. So yes Nintendo minted money in this generation. But that leaves 31 3rd party titles in the top 50 selling only 59.5mm copies. An average of 1.9mm each.
For the 360 the top 50 titles sold 143mm copies. 11 were MSFT - for a total of 40mm copies. That means 39 3rd party titles sold an average of 2.6mm copies each.
For PS3 the top 50 titles sold 90.5mm copies. 13 were Sony - for a total of 26mm copies. That leaves 37 3rd party titles averaging 1.7mm titles each.
One more dig at PS3. Taking the top 20 360/PS3 multiplatform games. 360 sold 69.3mm copies and PS3 sold 44mm copies. Ex Japan its 68.5 vs 41.9mm.
So if you are deciding to make a 3rd party title and you have to choose to make it for only 1 console - you go 360 and sell 40%-60% more copies then Wii or PS3. Its just math!! Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Blueray Blueray lost the battle a long time ago. People need to stop focusing on BR vs HDDVD and look at DVDA and SACD vs MP3. Price and convenience matter 5x more then quality – even for us quality junkies. Streaming video is where it’s at – and MS knew that before they even made the 360. That’s why HD-DVD was an add on!
I have a PS3. I also have a 65” 1080P HDTV in my media room and a 34” 1080i in the Bedroom. I haven’t bought a single Blueray disc in the year+ I’ve owned the PS3! I get a couple of Bluerays in the mail from Netflix every month – but that’s it. They usually look great (depends on if it was made in the HD era or if it’s just an attempt to get me to rebuy the movie). The problem is, it’s usually not what I really want to watch, or it’s something I’ve already seen on PPV at a hotel because I couldn’t wait.
I spend tons of $$ on HD cable, PPV and Marketplace movies – but I don’t know what I’m going to want to watch before I watch it. I want to be able to browse a selection of hundreds of titles and pick something that will start playing in no more then 1-2 hours. So I use my HD-DVR, Marketplace and maybe soon HDX from Vudu.
No way am I going to replace my 300+ DVDs with Blueray at $25 a pop (or more). I’ve also not bought a DVD (except the Redbox stuff I forget to return) in 5 years. Disc based media is a thing of the past. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Another internet geek rages vs Metallica With 57mm alblums sold in the US alone Metallica is 8th most popular band in the world, behind only the Beatles, Led Zepplin, the Eagles, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Areosmith and The Rolling Stones.
Justice For All, Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets are all great records but they only account for 19mm of the groups total alblum sales, and represent only 3 of the groups 7 top 400 best selling alblums of all time.
Its easy to argue that they are "over the hill" and "no one cares any more". Unfortionately the stats don't back you up. Saint Anger went Double Platinum, hit #1 in 30 countries including the US and Canada, and won a Grammy.
Other recent albums include 1999's S&M which sold 5m copies, 1998's Garage Inc which sold 5mm copies, 1997's Reload which sold 3mm copies and 1996's Load which sold 5mm copies.
If this album is as bad as Saint Anger, it will sell 1-2mm copies. If its decent it will sell 3-5mm and will drive them past Micheal Jackson in all time sales.
Oh and go ask Microsoft how many Metallica Rock Band pack they sold. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Cont Can anyone think of a better 2.1 setup for under $5k?
While this might be semi high-end (defiantly not real high-end), I’ve also owned Paradigms that ran $600 a pair – for towers with built in subs!
Also, on the reciver – can anyone help me compare the Onkyo 875 and the Sony 5300? Both are circa $1,500. I’m looking for a good blend of audio capability and video handling. It would ffed the above 2.1 system and a Mitsubishi WD-65734 (65” 1080p rear proj micro display w/HDMI 1.3). Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Paradigm Did you guys demo any Paradigm speakers?
Everyone knows there is no such thing as a perfect speaker. It depends on personal taste and how you plan to use them, but I have yet to find a speaker manufacturer with a more complete and solid line up of speakers. I have owned several different pairs over the last 10 years, from entry level to the highest end stuff, and bang for buck is usually 2x anything else I have seen. The kicker is their range. For example something like Definitive Technologies sounds great for a movie or techno, but sucks for heavy metal.
Right now I run a pair of Studio Monitor 100s, which are 5 driver towers that weight 80lbs each and run about $3,000 for a pair. I use a Servo 15 sub, which is one of the only subs on the market that can hit 12 Hz. It weighs 114lbs and has 4,500 watts of peak power (1,500 watts RMS). I think it cost $1,500, plus $300 for the cross over. Can anyone think of a better 2.1 setup for Link: http://www.paradigm.com/ Flag this | Edit this post |
