Smart dev team! In my opinion, the modding scene is one of the last places where innovation and creativity thrive (along with indies). Many of the main stream devs are too scared to try anything truly new and just do the same old generic games.

Like the concept but could've used a better introduction or backdrop. Otherwise good video and good luck :)

Nice video and good concept, this is actually what first popped in my mind when I thought about this contest. The idea of a 'knob' that you can crank the sh#t out of...

My only suggestions for improvement would be a better transition from the galvanometer to the videos.

Easily the best concept, I really like the idea but the execution could've been better. However this is a quickie contest so I understand. I would love to see you take this idea and make a 'powerthirst' like video using the Nvidia drink, it would be hilarious.

I actually think that the winner should have an old crappy gaming rig. It makes the win so much better and they really appreciate the upgrade since they can't afford to upgrade or other reasons. Its actually the reason I didn't submit anything since I don't deserve to win. So good luck :)

Well that was different :)
As far as the ratings, its the internet so you will never be able to please everyone. Some people like to downrate just to be a d#ck.

Good luck with the contest!

God I hate EA!
They are the reason for these stupid marketing tactics. They strong arm people into pre-ordering the 'beta' so they don't play the demo and realize how crappy the game is. The term 'beta' doesn't even apply anymore since they just release unfinished games and then charge gamers for each 'update' with paid DLC until its a complete game.

I will not support the crapfest that is MOH to get into the BF3 beta. No EA!

I do have some hope for BF3 though after reading some topics on the BF3 DICE uk forums. It seems they MAY actually create a good PC game with high player limits (80?) and Frostbite 2.0 being more focused on 64bit, DX11. However I will wait to see how this goes and won't fall for any of this pre-order crap.

Read here for some rumors:

Looks like healthy competition although I would like to see one more big competitor just to even things out a bit more :)

Anyone try this out and have impressions?
I downloaded it on Steam but haven't gotten around to playing it. Too many good mods getting updated/released :)

This all leads to my point about console FPS ports to PC being boring games. Most console FPS games are made to play slower since thumbsticks do not have the speed and responsiveness that a k/m does. They also add in a lot of auto aim and a low FOV for TVs. This is the reason I can't play console FPS games, I like consoles for action and hack/slash games though (mainly because the PC doesn't get any of those types of games even though it supports controllers, grumble grumble)

I do think the wiimote/move are an improvement over the thumbsticks for FPS games. It all comes down to understanding the strenghts of each platform. The smart devs (like valve) design the gameplay slightly different for console/PC platforms. Otherwise Portal and upcoming Portal 2 would be way too easy on PC. However 'smart' devs are few and far between and usually indie except for some exceptions. Unfortunately most indie's don't try the FPS market since its over saturated (some exceptions like IM, NS2)

- sorry for the brain dump, I seem to be stuck in work mode and therefore way too motivated and focused :)

Great tickle line :)
I have a feeling they left them in there but who knows. I am very happy to hear modders are already at work on more maps and additions to Alien Swarm!

I agree with others that I just hope the PC version isn't consolized. The graphics are already optimized to the max which is probably a good thing but I hope the gameplay isn't made more 'accessible' or adapted to the lower FOV for TVs on the PC version. Dam slow thumbsticks and low FOV are what cause most PC ports to be boring, the gameplay isn't as fast paced as we require - especially those of us used to quake/doom like speed in FPS games :)

Completely agree with NimbusTLD, it seems like they will go the normal console development route. Release an unfinished game during a quiet release window and then charge for the following 'updates' and stripped out features to make the game complete. So sad that this is becoming the norm for the big devs. Its why I always support the Indie and modding scenes :)

As far as DX3, I watched the leaked gameplay footage from E3 and it seems decent. It looks like they are going with the small linear maps that allow different tactics to complete. While that is nice, time will tell if that is worth the full retail price. I hope they have some large open maps too. Not sure how much replay value there will be but I hope they release a demo. Kinda wish they just stayed away from the DX name but oh well.

Should be interesting to see how this goes. To be honest, I haven't liked the marketing for Kinetic and the games shown so far are very bland. I also think this is too much but the 4GB bundle is a good idea. I have a feeling they will get some big games to support it coming soon. I think it will do alright but the question is whether M$ will continue to support/advertise it even if it has a lackluster first year. I could also see this doing well since people are stupid and like to buy what others buy whether they want it or not.

Its good to see some new stuff coming out of the console big boys even if its not unique, its at least a different direction. Can this keep the console industry fresh for another 4 years? Not sure but I have a feeling someone will leak their next console in 2012. Should be fun to watch how the industry fares the next couple years :)

Oh so they will use the controller in combination with Kinect... Well that makes it slightly more interesting to me. I don't like the thought of having to hold a gun or my arms out for long periods of time. If they allow it to rest on your legs that that will work otherwise I wouldn't want to play long sessions. With the wiimote and I think move, I can rest the controller on my leg for comfort and precision since it allows finer and more precise movements. Should be interesting to see how they implement a gun in a shooter game.

I wonder if the move and kinect will become compatible with the PC like the wiimote did. The move will probably use bluetooth but not sure if M$ will allow PCs to use the Kinect. I've replayed some sweet games with the wiimote and enjoyed myself, also like some of the other apps the modders have come up with the wiimote on the PC. Should be interesting to see what comes out of this.

I used to like CoD back when it was actually a good game (COD1, 2 and MW). I really didn't like where they took it with MW2. They threw balance right out the window in favor for more options. It encourages 'boring' gameplay that is too focused on K/D ratios rather than fun.

As far as CoD being a big cultural phenomenon, I guess its true to some degree but no more than the other generic boring shooters like Halo. I hope to see some innovation coming from indie/modders but the FPS genre is getting pretty stale lately. The biggest 'new' thing I've played with FPS would be Red Steel 2. The half shooter/half sword slashing game with combos that let you switch between both shooting and slashing was very satisfying and unique. Maybe with move support this will become its own sub genre 'FPSS' (first person shooter slasher)

So has anyone been playing this and care to share their in depth impressions. It looks like a sloppy mix of BF and CoD:MW without destructible environments and vehicles. So I've kinda forgotten about it but am interested if anyone cares to share their opinion on it so far...

Interesting idea but I agree that some issues may arise like bleedover and shutter. I like the thinking though and welcome more ideas that bring gamers together.

As far as 3D, it will grow as price drops and its made easier/better. Nintendo is diving all over 3D and putting it right in your hands with no glasses. The 3DS looks really sweet and I'm not a big mobile gamer. It was easily one of the best things at this E3. I think that will drive 3D gaming into mainstream and it will only grow from there.

While I agree the 1 GB model is the one to grab, I would wait for EVGA. In my opinion they are one of the best and their lifetime warranties and trade up programs rock. I still have my 8800gtx which I just pass on down the family tree :)

Hello Joel!
I am a new member but have been lurking for awhile on this site. I started coming to this site for 2 reasons, 1 because it's one of the few sites specifically for PC gamers and the other reason because its not blocked by my work's firewall (for some reason, not complaining :).

I look forward to your additions and would only suggest that the homepage get a revamp or more accurately a strip down. It seems very cluttered and could use some clean up. Good luck and see you around!
