Though it looks fun, I'm getting more and more concerned that this will be another Black and White. B&W was hyped because it was sooo original, raising your pet, teaching him the difference between good and evil, and how awesome the gameplay would be. Yet for the most part, it was a very dumb strategy game with a short lasting appeal.
Looking at these screenshots, though it looks fun, Spore is almost exactly alike. It's hyped because of its 'evolutionary' gameplay, being able to watch your animal grow, giving it all kinds of distinctive features. But then just after E3, I read that you can reach the 'travel to space' phase in just about 3 hours of gameplay. How in the world can you make the evolution of the animal any good and distinctive if that only takes as much as an hour max? I'm afraid it doesn't matter a bit whether it is a purple three-legged, 1000 pound, spikey carnivore or a camouflaged, flying musquito eater (if such diversity is possible in the first place), in the end it turns out to be just another 'strategy' game.
Don't get me wrong, I truly hope it is as good as everybody thinks it is, but I'm just afraid that it won't be, looking at these screenshots. There's hardly anything diverse to see, just some city with a spaceship...
