» E3 2006 Command And Conquer 3 Impressions

Electronic Arts has finally decided to give fans of the original Command and Conquer RTS game what they want with Command and Conquer 3: Tiberiun Wars. The next game in the series is due out in 2007 and at E3 this week we got a behind-closed-doors early look at the game.

In fact we think that the E3 demo of C&C 3 may have been too early as there wasn't a lot about the game that was shown to us. We first saw a trailer that described the history of the classic C&C universe (how tiberium was discovered, how the two main sides of the C&C universe were formed, etc) and also gave a rather big hint that the third playable side of C&C 3 (besides the GDI and the Brotherhood of Nod) is an alien invasion.

The E3 demo presentation then described how the fictional tiberium element is the central theme of the C&C series, much like the Force is for Star Wars and how the One Ring is for Lord of the Rings. Indeed we were showed a huge document on the history of the C&C series that served as the game's bible, along with a paper created with the help of MIT professors that describes tiberium as if it were a real element (some of this back story might show up as part of a special collector's edition of C&C 3 when it is released.

Finally we got to see a playable demo of the game itself. Graphically C&C 3 already looks impressive with great looking tank and flying units and map enviroments, with some impressive water effects. Unfortuately the demo didn't really give us a feel for how the game will handle combat as we saw attacks on some ruined buildings by tanks and planes. It was mentioned that EA plans to hold a press event sometime this summer that will have more about C&C 3 revealed.

It's way too early to tell at this point if this latest game in the Command and Conquer series will be worthy of the franchise but the brief amount of gameplay and the amount of research done for the game has us hopeful that this latest incarnation will be an excellent addition. We hope to have more info on C&C 3 to report on in the near future.

I care about cnc3!!!!
Ive played every game (except for sole survivor) since the original
one was released.

Ive completed every cnc game and ill happily sell my left testical
if I can get my hands on this game as long as it is as good as the
original games were.

Im glad they tried out a few new ideas with generals, but im very,
very happy to hear they want to moddle this game more on the
previous 2 incarnations.

They need to get Petroglyph to make it. They have helped make every
Command and Conquer game.

C&C is the best in RTS that's for sure, including Red Alert 1
and 2. Simple, fast, fun, and with cool themes. Generals in many
ways butchered C&C, but I'm hoping C&C3 Tiberium Wars will
return the series back to its roots.

Some people will disagree. I for one disliked starcraft, and
prefered the CnC games.

*ahem* Total Annihilation, Starcraft and Age of Kings say
"hi".

All three were vastly superior to Command and Conquer.

The best CnC game was Renegade roffles.
