Have you tried Freelancer or the DarkStar One demo?

loved freelancer/privateer/wing commanders/etc. tried the darkstar one demo only briefly, didn't have enough time to make a decision on it.

i just wish all these MMO's could also be available to the SP crowd, that way we don't have to put up with the kids/schedules/egos/etc.

I'll say this much, I played the game for over a year and a half, and I never knowingly met a kid. At least, not that wasn't gone from the game within a week. The stupid, the impatient, and the run-and-gun crowd don't tend to survive.

This game keeps drawing my attention, I think i'm going to pick up the free trial version.

Anyone recommend a specific server? Class? Ship? For a noob ^^

Great idea :)

There's only one server (not counting the Chinese one), and its called Tranquility. You'll automatically be connecting to it once you've downloaded the client.

As far as classes ; there aren't any per se. You become what you want to be by learning different skills (no grinding, only real time skill training - trains while you're offline too).
You'll have to choose between 4 races, each having 3 bloodlines.
I'd just recommend you invest the attribute points into Perception, Willpower, Intelligence, Memory over Charisma.

Once you're in the game, you'll be in a newbie ship, but the tutorial is quite complete.
After that, I'd recommend hanging out in the Rookie chat, or joining a newbie-friendly corporation, such as EVE University.

Anyway, welcome to the world of EVE !

I got the client but I guess I still need a hardcopy to get a cd key for registration *puff*. So i'll pick it up over Amazon for $16 and give it a whirl.

The fact that it's once big universe, and requires actual skill rather than level grinding is also something I look forward to experiencing.

Are there unique armors or weapons? And do each different weapons class have different looks so every ship is unique?

There's a 14-day trial account, which doesnt even require you to use a Credit-Card.

Here's a direct link for a trial :
https://secure.eve-online.com/ft/?aid=101340

Keep in mind that there's a prolonged downtime today (until 15h00 GMT).

You really shouldn't need a key to start it up... Just sign up an account and you should be on your way. Instead of spending money at Amazon, just contact CCP and ask what's up.

It's too hard to learn. I'll keep my Freelancer and look forward to DarkStar One.

Nathan used to be pretty good at AQ in the old days.

Very much so a real sense of loss. You can work very hard over a period of a week to increase your skills, earn money and then buy a new ship and fit it out, and then have it all taken away in one pitched battle because you decided to take a shortcut through 0.0 space.

The EVE Universe is a very dangerous place. However, the game itself is great and I would recommend it to anyone that likes Egosoft's X series of games or any other space game. You just need a bit of time to invest over the long-haul (not talking per day; talking months, if not years of play).

Well its not a dangerous place persay, you just have to be carefull. I've had one ship destroyed in 1 year of playing it.
